Google Owns New York City Building that Spans Full City
Block
Torrence Boone, a Harvard Business School graduate, oversees Google’s agency sales operations in the Americas. Based in New
York, Torrence Boone has an office in one of Google’s newer properties, the 15-story
structure at 111 Eighth Avenue.
Google bought the Manhattan building in 2010 at an estimated cost of $1.8 billion,
which was the largest U.S. real estate transaction recorded that year for a single
building. The building, which already housed Google’s East Coast headquarters, covers a full city block and has more office space than
the Empire State Building.
Google occupies about one-sixth of the building with its 1,800 New York-based
employees. Now that Google is the owner of the 2.9 million-square-foot structure, the company has plenty of space to grow.
Google’s tenants in the building include well-known companies such as Deutsch Advertising, Sprint, WebMD, Nike,
BarnesandNoble.com, the Bank of New York, Verizon, and Lifetime Entertainment.
With 15-foot ceilings and unobstructed views, the building is an architectural gem. The structure was built in 1932 by the Port
Authority of New York and New Jersey.
