SETTING UP GOOGLE ALERTS AND IFTTT FOR FINDING BRAND MENTIONS

1. The first step is to go to the Google Alerts homepage and enter what keyword you’re looking to track. I’ll typically put quotations around the keyword so that there’s only an alert if that exact term is being mentioned online.

2. After that, you’ll need to make sure that you change the “Deliver to” option to “RSS feed”. Note: After you have created the alert, keep this tab open in the browser, you will need to come back to it later.

3. After you’ve selected the keywords that you wish to be alerted on, create a free account with IFTTT. Once the account has been created, go to “My Applets” and create a “New Applet”.

4. Select the “if +this then that” text.

5. Select “RSS Feed”.

6. Select “New feed item”.

7. Go back to the Google Alerts tab and click on the RSS feed icon.

8. Copy the URL for the document tree.

9. Paste into the new feed item on ifttt.com and select, “Create trigger”.

10. Select “That”.

11. Select “Google Drive”.

12. Select “Add row to spreadsheet”.

13. Create a spreadsheet name and change the “Drive folder path to, IFTTT/Feed”. Note: Spreadsheet should keep the same name for every keyword you’re looking to track.

14. Select “Create Action” and “Finish”.
