They were working to develop a faster and more efficient online search engine.

The Google company’s initial public offering took place on August 19, 2004, raising $1.67 billion dollars.

The Googleplex, is located in Mountain View, California. the company has 20,164 full-time employees.

Google's mission is "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. The unofficial company slogan is "Don't be evil".

Google is designed to make the Web efficient and produce much more satisfying search results than existing systems.

It also provides more than 24 billion hyperlink databases.

They hypothesized that a search engine that analyzed the relationships between websites would produce better ranking of results than existing techniques, which ranked results according to the number of times the search term appeared on a page.

The name “Google” originated from a common misspelling of the word “googol,” which refers to 10^100 (a number represented by a 1 followed by one hundred zeros.)

Having found its way increasingly into everyday language, the verb “google”, was added to the Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary and the Oxford English Dictionary in 2006, meaning to use the Google search engine to obtain information on the Internet.

In 2004, Google launched its own free web-based e-mail service, known as Gmail. It features conversation view, spam-filtering technology, the capability to use Google technology to search e-mail.

In early 2006, the company launched Google Video, which not only allows users to search and view freely available videos but also offers users and media publishers the ability to publish their content, including television shows on CBS, NBA basketball games, and music videos.

Google Translate or Google Language Tools is a server-side machine translation service, which can translate 35 different languages to each other, forming 595 language pairs. Browser extension tools. The software uses corpus linguistics techniques from translated documents.
