1) What qualities would you expect to find in someone to-day who wishes to serve God and others?

2) Have you ever experienced in your life being a rejected stone? What was your response?

3) Jesus assured the disciples that those who believe will do even greater works than He performed. How is this pos-sible?

4) Jesus’ description of his Father’s house with many dwell-ing places is a comforting image for many. How do you interpret these words?

A Message from Fr. Tim May 10, 2020

Greetings and prayers: Each day we pray that you, your family, your colleagues, and friends are healthy and safe. This moment in time is unlike any that we have experienced in our lifetime, and it gives us a sense of peace knowing that amidst the uncertainty, our Lord continues to look upon us with grace. Our new reality includes the Governor’s decision to re-open parks and speculation about our children returning to the classroom for the remainder of the school year is now over as well. While the numbers have risen in the Sussex County area with more testing, the restrictions have curtailed the spread of the virus. The limitations on our freedoms, especially with public worship, and the great need of community support have resulted in a balancing of our responsibility to care for our bodies and nurturing our souls. The month of May has always been associated with our Blessed Mother. We can be inspired by her example, her strength and motherly qualities. This weekend, we remember in a special way all our Mothers. Those who have given us life, love, nurtured, guided and challenged us. And it is from this love I believe; we as human beings are as close to finding the unconditional love of God. There is a beautiful saying in chapter forty - nine of Isaiah, where the author says in response to the absence of God: “Can a woman forget her baby at the breast, feel no pity for the child she has borne? Even if these were to forget, I shall not forget you. Look, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands…” We also can not forget all those women in our lives who we call “mothers of our hearts”, who share the unconditional love of God with us. They share it unselfishly in a deep and spiritual way. In the Gospel this weekend, Jesus speaks at the Last Supper, aware of what is before Him, giving us all the gift of the Eucharist and with that gift the great challenge of being the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus reminds us all that with Him, the power of the Spirit and the grace of God, we can all achieve wonderful works. As we all yearn for normality, day by day we get closer to that goal. While we anticipate with great hope, the lifting of restrictions, we must take baby steps along the journey. For now, let us enjoy the weekend, honor our Mothers who walk with us in this life and those who always walk with us in spirit. Let us thank God for their gifts and sacrifice; both our physical Mothers and those from whom we experience motherly love.

Peace, Fr. Tim

HOW TO SAY THE ROSARY 1. Make the Sign of the Cross. 2. Holding the Crucifix, say

the Apostles’ Creed. 3. On the first bead, say an Our Father. 4. Say one Hail Mary on each of the next three beads. 5. Say the Glory Be. 6. For each of the five decades, announce the Mystery

(perhaps followed by a brief reading from Scripture) then say the Our Father.

7. While holding each of the ten beads of the decade, next say ten Hail Mary’s while meditating on the Mystery. Then say a Glory Be.

8. After saying the five decades, say the Hail, Holy Queen, followed by this dialogue and prayer:

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: O God, whose Only Begotten Son, by his life, Death, and Resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech thee, that while meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

POPE FRANCIS URGES CATHOLICS TO UNITE THROUGH PRAYING THE ROSARY IN MAY

THE MONTH OF MARY

Mother’s Day highlights the beautiful vocation of motherhood and the gift of life. It calls us to cherish

the gift of life that we receive from our mothers and to pray for all women to whom God has entrusted

life in a very special way.

FAITH FORMATION NOTES

WE SEEK THE FACE OF GOD (Pflaum Gospel Weeklies)

We See God in Creation

“The world is charged with the grandeur of God.”

These words of the priest-poet

Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J. boldly declare that we can see God the Creator in creation.

Think of a time when the sky, sea, earth, plants or animals

helped you see God’s grandeur. Recall where you were, what you saw or heard, how you felt, what

you most remember.

We See God in Jesus

Jesus came to show us the way, to teach us the truth, and to offer us the that leads us to

God.

We see the face of God in Jesus.

Think: 1) How does Jesus show us the way to God? 2) What truths does He teach? 3) How does Jesus want us to live our lives?

We See God in the Church

The people who believe and follow Jesus are called the

Church.

Whenever we gather to worship, we witness God’s love for all Creation. In worship, we celebrate the presence of God. As members of the Church, we witness to God’s presence with

our whole selves.

Please join us for the live stream Mass on Saturdays at 5:00pm,

Sundays at 10:30am and daily at 9:00am.

Jesus’ Life Tells Us About God

Jesus’ friends are worried in todays’ Gospel. What will they do when Jesus is gone? Philip asks a ques-tion; he wants Jesus to show them God, whom Jesus calls Father. Jesus says, “Have I been with you so long, and you still don’t know who I am?” Philip gets an answer that is important to all Christians. Jesus says, “Whoever has seen Me has seen God.” Jesus’ whole life on earth reveals God. His loving, sharing, forgiving, including actions show us what God is like (CCC, 516). As Christians, we now take Jesus’ place in showing forth what God is like. We continue His work of loving, sharing, forgiving and including people.

ASK A FRANCISCAN…

Will all people from prehistoric times on have the opportunity to go to heaven? Even if they did not know God? Yes, they can be saved. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that every person “who is ignorant of the Gospel of Christ and of his Church, but seeks the truth and does the will of God in accordance with his understanding of it, can be saved.”

‘In Memory of My Mother’ (Patrick Kavanagh)

I do not think of you lying in the wet clay Of a Monaghan graveyard; I see you walking down a lane among the Poplars on your way to the station, or happily

Going to second Mass on a summer Sunday You meet me and you say: ‘Don’t forget to see about the cattle‘ Among your earthiest words the angels stray.

And I think of you walking along a headland Of green oats in June, So full of repose, so rich with life – And I see us meeting at the end of a town.

On a fair day by accident, after The bargains are all made and we can walk Together through the shops and stalls and markets Free in the oriental streets of thought.

O you are not lying in the wet clay, For it is a harvest evening now and we Are piling up the ricks against the moonlight And you smile up at us – eternally.
