Welcome to Good Shepherd!

We are glad to have you with us in worship today! We exist to “grow in the grace and

knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18) and to “go into all the world

and preach the good news to all creation.” (Mark 16:15)

We love to have children in worship with us! The pews in the back of the church are

reserved especially for families with young children. At times we understand that

children can become overly restless or start crying loudly. For times like these, we offer a

special room called “The Shepherd’s Nook” where you will find comfortable furniture

and a closed-circuit television monitor so that you can still follow our worship service. It’s

a great place for children to regain their composure and then rejoin us for worship. “The

Shepherd’s Nook” is located just to the left of the picture at the end of the hallway. If you

need directions, please ask an usher. Additional restrooms and a drinking fountain are at

the end of the hallway. Our restroom off the narthex does provide parents with a

changing table and nursing mother’s privacy if desired.

For your comfort and convenience we have large print worship folders, hearing devices,

crutches, and wheelchairs. If the previously mentioned items would be helpful to you or

if you desire any other assistance please contact an usher, they will be happy to help you.

For those unable to join us in person, our Sunday morning worship services are streamed

live at www.gsdg.org. We also make audio recordings of our worship for our shut-ins and

anyone else who might wish to make use of them or pass them along to others. Please ask

an usher for details. So that we may have a record of your visit, we ask you to sign the

Friendship Register which is a small maroon book located at the end of each pew.

Our Practice of Holy Communion

Believing that Holy Scripture teaches that Holy Communion is intended for those who

are truly one in faith, this congregation practices Close Communion. This means that Holy

Communion is reserved for those who are members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

or other WELS and ELS churches. If you wish to join us in the future, please speak with

one of our pastors after worship.

THE FIFTH SUNDAY IN LENT The Savior’s Message:

Jesus shows his glory as a saving glory, a glory that is hidden under a blanket of

suffering and a veil of humiliation. During his state of humiliation, Jesus did not

make full and constant use of the glory he has as true God in order to redeem us.

During his state of exaltation, Jesus once again made full and constant use of the

glory he has as true God to prove that we are redeemed. All thanks and praise to

Jesus, our Redeemer!

SECOND LESSON Hebrews 5: 7 – 10

Jesus was obedient to God’s Law and His Father’s will in order to win salvation for us.

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud

cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because

of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what

he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all

who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of

Melchizedek.

Through his suffering, death, and resurrection, Jesus draws people to himself.

Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the

Feast. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,”

they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and

Philip in turn told Jesus. Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be

glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it

Children’s Message – Jesus tells us to, “let the little children come to me and do not

hinder them for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Mark 10:14). This

What's New At Good Shepherd?

BLAST MINISTRY

We’re having a BLAST Open House March 18th EVERYONE is welcome to join our children’s

ministry that day for lesson, craft & activity giving Glory to our Lord.

FELLOWSHIP HALL SETUP FOR EASTER BREAKFAST

After the Maundy Night Service, volunteers are needed to setup the Fellowship Hall for our

Easter Breakfast. We need to move or remove the furniture in Nook, move the dividing wall

between Fellowship Hall and the Nook, and setup table and chairs. With enough strong men this

should take about ½ hour.

On Monday night, April 2nd, we need to move all of the above back to where it was. This fun

will start at 6:30 pm and should only take an hour. Any questions, talk to Bob Reichert.

LWMS Mission Projects 2017-18

Good Shepherd members have the opportunity to touch lives around the world through mission

this purpose is provided on the lock box and may be used for cash and change also. Seventy-five

Project #HM-2016-16: Pastoral Studies Institute

This project supports men from different countries who want to become WELS pastors in North

America. Men in the program now have Hmong, Laotian, and Vietnamese backgrounds.

Project #WM-2016-18: East Asia Projects

Your gifts provide funds for Christian education for the children of East Asian church leaders

and for obtaining the worship and teaching space needed for the growing numbers of people

who seek to learn about Jesus.

LWMS INTERNATIONAL MISSION PROJECTS

One home mission (HM) and one world mission (WM) project listed below is selected by ballot in

the spring of 2018. Missions not selected receive the annual convention worship service offerings.

Project #HM-2016-14-Caribbean Scholarship Fund

Contributions to the scholarship fund will ensure that more Caribbean students receive seminary

and teacher training in the United States and return to their homeland - Antigua, St. Lucia, or

Grenada - to continue teaching and preaching the saving gospel message.

Project #HM-2016-01-First Public Service Assistance

Your offerings help new missions prepare and produce advertising materials, mailings,

pamphlets, bulletins, and welcome signs to encourage attendance at their first service.

Project #WM-2016-07-Cameroon Projects

Gifts will help provide roofing and small repairs to worship facilities and parsonages, furnishings

at the seminary, books, Bibles, provisions for students and their families, and uniforms for

women ministry workers to help identify them as LCC members.

Project #WM-2016-34-Academia Cristo

Martin Luther's works spread far and wide due to the revolutionary printing press. Today,

Academia Cristo uses smart phones and the Internet to train and empower people to proclaim

God's name. Movies, worship resources, and Bible studies have been downloaded over 200,000

times.

APRIL K-8 OPEN HOUSE

We are excited to announce we will be having an Open House for grades K-8 on Sunday, April

8th, 12-2pm. Meet our faculty, tour the school and classrooms, and learn more about our

offerings.

Share the Open House flyer with your neighbors, friends, co-workers, and family. Copies can be

found on the table in the narthex.

PALM SUNDAY PROCESSIONAL OF PALMS -

Parents who are interested in having their children participate in a processional of the palms to

begin our services on Sunday morning are asked to arrive 5 minutes before the service begins to

line up in the narthex. The children will follow the pastor to the front of the church and will lay

their palm branches at the feet of Jesus before the altar and then return to sit with their parents

for the remainder of the service. Teachers from our School, Preschool, and Sunday School will be

there to help guide and escort children back to their parents. Any questions? Contact Pastor

LWMS Convention Update

Kristina John was elected the congregational delegate for the 2018 LWMS Convention in Green

Bay, WI June 21st-24th. Chris Hermann will serve as the alternate. Any one interested in

attending the convention can find more information at www.LWMS.org. Early registration is

encouraged as there is a discounted registration fee for signing up before April 1st, 2018.

Midweek Lenten Services

Midweek Lenten Services continue through Wednesday, March 21st.

Food for the body will be served at 5:30 pm.

Food for the soul will be served at 7 pm.

Our theme for this year is, "Jesus Is Our Great High Priest."

Good Shepherd will once again be participating in a Lenten rotation with pastors of sister
