From the Pastor’s Desk Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe

HAPPY THANKSGIVING:

Thursday is Thanksgiving Day. We will celebrate with Mass at Good Shepherd Church at 9:00 AM. That will be the last day you can bring canned and dry goods for the Little Sisters of the Poor. The goods will be delivered on Saturday, November 30th. If you are able to help deliver give me a call, especially Youth Group members. Our Thanksgiving collection will be taken up that day with

the money going to the Little Sisters. Thanks in advance for your support. On Thanksgiving morning the Chamber Choir, Alumni Handbell Team and the brass quintet will be on hand to enhance our liturgy of giving thanks. Rosary will be recited at 8:15 AM. Special music will begin at 8:30 AM. There will be seasonal hymns and anthem, patriotic music and the annual singing of "How Great Thou Art," along with the Festival Alleluia. Put the turkey on and come to church to give thanks to

God for our many blessings.

DECEMBER 8: THE FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION falls on the Second Sunday of Advent this year. Well the Sundays of Advent or Lent can never be “bumped.” So the celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is transferred to Monday, December 9th. BUT when you transfer a feast to another day it is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation. I thought I’d let you know this in advance since I figured 33 1/3 percent of you were wondering. ADORATION: Beginning Thursday, December 5th we will have Adoration in Sacred Heart Chapel from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Our Prayer Group meets every Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. They invite YOU to join them for Adoration and for the prayer time if you so desire.

KEEP THE LIGHTS ON AND ADORATION: We are going to have Adoration of the Eucharist as we celebrate the Keep the Lights On program on Wednesday, December 11th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. This Diocesan program is to help welcome people to receive the Sacrament of Penance during the Advent Season. We will hold this in Sacred Heart Church. Kindly mark your calendar now.

PARISH CHRISTMAS PARTY: Our Social Club will sponsor the annual Parish Christmas Party to be held on Saturday, December 7th at the Thomas J. Usher Gymnasium. Doors will open at 5:00 PM. The donation is $20.00 per person. Tickets are available in Gathering Spaces of the Churches at the weekend Masses. Tickets will also be available at the Parish Office.

Everyone is invited to come and spend an enjoyable evening with your Parish Family!

OFFICE CLOSED: The Church Office will close at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, November 27th so our good staff can get home to prepare for Thanksgiving. The office will reopen on Monday, December 2nd.

TICKETS: The Turkey Trot tickets go off this Wednesday evening. Please have your tickets in by 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, November 26th so that we can process your tickets. Winners will be notified on Monday, December 2nd. So, watch your tickets or hope for a nice phone call. OUR CAMPAIGN: Here is a progress report on our Church Alive Campaign from a diocesan perspective.

More than $93,000,000.00 committed to date (74% of Diocesan goal).

The entire campaign is working as envisioned, and is ahead of projections. The campaign vision and plan is enjoying success in all types and sizes of parishes throughout the Diocese; in large and small, center-city, urban, suburban and rural; and in both financially stabile and fragile parishes.

Bishop’s Leadership Phase has raised over $37 million and continues with strong support; Clergy Phase: raised more than $3.1 million pledged from priests and deacons toward a target of $500,000; Both the Initial Parish Phase and Track 1 exceeded targets; Track 2 has reached 28% of target within two months remaining.

Love and Peace,

Fr. Semler

ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY Today as we celebrate Christ the King, may we open the door of our hearts so wide that we may listen to the voice of Jesus calling us to help build his kingdom here

on earth. In the month of November, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to help build the kingdom of God. In October our conference helped five familes, pro-viding 12 pieces of furniture and

four beds. Three of the families shopped for clothing and household goods items at the Penn Hills Thrift Store.
