From the Pastor’s Desk Most Holy Trinity

SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY

BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST: This feast is also called Corpus Christ. This is another of those mysteries that we will have to wait until we reach heaven to fully understand. But our faith in it is a foundation of our belief. The word we often us is Eucharist: a word that means Thanksgiving. We say Thank You to Jesus for all He has done and all He will do for us when we receive Him in the Eucharist. And He says Thank You to us when we receive Him and pledges to keep giving help and giving us all we need. This is what I call a great cycle to be a part of. I wish I could explain “How” Jesus comes into that bread and wine to make it His body and blood but I cannot. Although I cannot explain, I believe, as I am sure that you do. And that belief is what we need to “keep us going.” ORDINARY TIME: Next week will be the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. If there is no feast day during the weekdays this week I will say the masses of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time. WHAT MASS IS SAID: There is a guide put out for priests to know what mass must, or could be said each day. It is called an Ordo. It also tells me what prayers I am to say in my Breviary (my priest prayer book). I may wear white as I celebrate a memorial of a saint that day and you may hear that Father X wore green at his church. That would be because we each choose a different option for that day. As a matter of practice I will have the mass of the saint for that day and Fr. X probably prefers the “greeny” as we sometime call them. J.R. LOVRE: I am very pleased to hear of your love and concern for J.R. pursuant to his letter in last week’s bulletin. Your comments assure me of the love and respect J.R. earned from you by his joyful presence among us. Let us keep J.R. in our prayers that God will continue to help and guide him in his discernment. As I have already told many of you, every 2 or 3 years a young man makes this decision and God works with him to make the RIGHT decision. So again, let’s keep him in our prayers.

DAILY MASS CHANGE: Effective June 3, 2013 Having daily Mass at Sacred Heart on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday isn’t working really well. Attendance on Monday is ok but Wednesday & Friday is sparse. It was a “try” but we will return to having daily Mass at 9:00 AM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Good Shepherd Church. I go to St. Maurice on Fridays at 9:00 AM to celebrate with our School, East Catholic. I hope you understand.

Local Churches, Weekday Mass Schedule St. Colman, Turtle Creek: M-F 8:30 AM Holy Cross, East Pittsburgh: M-F 8:00 AM Madonna del Castello, Swissvale: M-S 7:30 AM St. Maurice, Forest Hills: M: 9:00 AM; and 7:00 PM (With Novena) T-F 7:00, 9:00 AM; S: 9:00 AM Word of God, Swissvale: (St. Anselm) M-F : 9:30 AM (Just a FYI: St. Colman Church has a Sunday evening Mass at 5:30 PM.) SUMMER FEST 2013: The signs are up. The booths, games, rides, fireworks are ordered. The food and baked goods are in the planning stage and our “grand event” is only 10 days away. Thanks for the pop and gifts for prizes and Basket Raffles. BINGO! No, no, no you cannot holler Bingo yet...you have to wait for Summer Fest 2013. Unless of course you come to our Tuesday Night bingo which begins with early birds at 6:45 PM. If you haven’t signed up to help yet give Herb a call 412-271-1326 or email him at [email protected]. If you can bake, please bring you goodies any Summer Fest evening from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM The earlier the better. We need lots of goodies so feel free to bake everyday over and over and over again. Can you help to set up on tear down? Look for a schedule in next week’s bulletin to see when. Can you pray for a safe and good time for all who attend? I’m putting my Brinton Tower friends and shut ins in charge of praying. Because I know they are good at it. So as you can see, everyone can fit into one of these categories. Oh….I just thought of this one. If you live in Brinton Towers and can bake, I’ll pick up your goodies at 3:30 each day. Remember “many hands make light work.” None of us can do everything but together we can accomplish much.

LET’S DO IT!!!

Love and Peace, Father Semler

[A]s often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until He comes. -1 Corinthians 11:26

June 12, 13, 14 & 15 Father Al is collecting any and all gifts, be they toys for the children’s games or items you have and cannot use. Gently used items can be used in a “second hand booth.” Pop (2 liters or cans) and bottled water are nice items for us to “stock pile.” Bakers Needed: Everyone who attends our festival goes right for the bake sale to look for all of those delicious treats! We’re counting on your help once again. You may bring your baked goods to Sa-cred Heart Church Hall on any day of the festival after 4:00 PM. If you are unable to bring your items in, call Alice at 412-823-2021 or Dolly at 412-829-7117 and they will pick up your baked goods.

Apples for Students Please take the time to be sure you are signed up at Giant Eagle for the school code of East Catholic and that you have chosen it as your participating school. You may check the code online at www.gianteagle.com or you may call 1-800-474-4777. The Giant Eagle code for East Catholic is 1135. Just by chance someone in the Giant Eagle office knew of the situation and called Sr. Ju-dith to say that there were additional points available under the old codes and they did credit East Catholic for some of them. However, the old codes will soon be eliminated and we could lose those points. Please make the change today!
