The Golden Eagle District is located in the southeastern region of the San Gabriel Valley. The district is made up of the cities of Rowland Heights, West Covina, La Puente, Hacienda Heights, City of Industry, Diamond Bar, Pomona, Walnut, and Valinda.
The Los Angeles Area Council was formed in 1911. In 1919 The Pasadena District Council was established to oversee the San Gabriel Valley and foothill region to San Dimas.
In 1939 the San Gabriel Valley Council was divided into districts, and the area was known as the Rancho District (named for Rancho La Puente) and changed many times over the years. Other names have been:
1950 Lucky Baldwin 1961 Lucky Trails 1969 Los Conquistadors
1970 Chaparral 1971 Conquistadores 1982 Mountain View
The Mountain View District, the largest in the council, was divided at the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) in 1984 and the territory south of the freeway became known as the Golden Eagle District.
In 2006, the Scouting communities of Diamond Bar, Walnut, and Pomona, from the former Old Baldy Council, were added to the Golden Eagle District.

Scouting continues to challenge boys and young men, preparing you for leadership. Scouting prepares you for leadership by helping you learn to meet challenges. Scouting continues still to thrust boys and young men
in to the wilderness to prove themselves, to learn confidence and self reliance, to learn about nature, and about powers greater than
yourselves - to learn about the power of the soul. : : : :
Scouting prepares boys and young men for leadership by teaching you the importance of service to others. The scouting movement shows
dramatically that service – public service – still beckons the best among us to do battle with complacency, neglect, ignorance, and the emptiness
of the spirit that are the common enemies of social peace and justice. : : : :
Scouting prepares boys and young men to live lives based on unchanging values - values such as trustworthiness, loyalty, honesty,
kindness, and the respect and dignity due each and every person. We in scouting believe that personal virtues - self-reliance, self-control, honor,
integrity, and morality - are absolute and timeless. : : : :
Good homes and good parents produce strong boys, but Scouting tempers the steel.
Excerpts from speech given by Dr Robert M. Gates, then Secretary of Defense
Centennial Boy Scout Jamboree 2010 Fort AP Hill, Virginia
