Where Do I Put My Golf Ball Again?
Why Golf Ball Positioning is Crucial For Your Game
The Importance of Muscle Memory
Rather than remembering each detail of a swing, muscle memory creates groove
Individual components of a swing are internalised by the player
After lots of practice, the player automatically combines the individual components to form the whole swing
The Importance of Consistency
The best swing is smooth and above all, consistent
Consistency means hitting the ball the same way every time
Being consistent all the time defines a great player!
“If consistency is so important, WHY would you mess with the ball setup?”
“Wouldn't it be easier to position the ball in the same place every time?!?”
Reasons For Different Ball Positions
Driver is the longest club in bag: Swing club in a wide arc, with a sweeping motion
Irons hit the ball in a downward motion, less a smooth arc, more a downward blow:
Hitting down on the ball will impart spin which is something all golfers aim to do
More Reasons For Different Ball Positions
Drivers hit the ball on the upswing. Result is greater lift and distance.
Irons hit the ball at the bottom of the arc
General Guidelines for Ball Position
Driver and fairway wood: Position the ball in line with your left toes Same for any club with less than 19 degree loft
5 iron to 9 iron:Put the ball directly on the middle line between your heels9 iron could be even more back in your stance
2 iron to 4 iron:From the middle line, move the ball forward in your stance by maybe one ball width per iron Same applies to woods and hybrids with more than 21 degree loft
How Do You Know When You've Got It Right?
