GOLDEN RULES OF INDUSTRIAL TRAINING
Training is not only to know-how, but also to know- why
1. Be prepared before you leaveMake sure you received the, training placement letter, daily diary, Agreement by
NAITA before you go to the training place.
2. Your first dayFirst impression should be OK
Remember you can never make the first impression again. Hence go to correct person
whom you have to report to, at the correct day at the correct time. Have a proper
dress. Be prepared to introduce yourself, your training objectives and the date of the
commencement and the end of your training.
Get to know exactly who your training supervisor, meet him. You may have to go to
him not vice versa!
3. SafetyHave a good idea about the basic safety rules and procedures of the company. About
the essential safety gears at each working environment. Make sure you have received
them or if not provide them by yourselves. Your safety should be your concern and
your responsibility.Being a novice is not an excuse for the safety manager!
4. Better exposureAt the first few days make sure you grasp as much as possible about the authority
hierarchy, getting know people, be punctual and make a good impression to the whole
staff. On the first few weeks you will find lot of contradictions what you learned from
book and what is actually happening in the field. Do not go to comment unless
otherwise you are really asked to do so. Learn from their mistakes. Try to think why
are they doing it in that way? At the later stage of your training sometimes supervisor
may ask you to come up with suggestions, proposals etc. there you can comment.

5. Documents worksMake sure you have read and understand the each and every word in the booklet
provided to you by NAITA. There are forms to be filled and to be sent as soon as you
go to the training place; eg: about your training place etc.
Have your own tiny note book. (Bulky note books will not work in the field!!) Keep
track of everything you do with short notes.
Eg: If you do a blast what is the pattern, amount of explosive used. If u repair a
machine what parts you replaced. Etc.
The notes you make will be helpful to you to fill the daily diary. Make sure you
complete your diary at the end of each day; otherwise your life will be very hard if
you miss several days. Your record book must reflect what you learned, not what you
merely did. Hence have additional papers and describe what you learned, with
diagrams flowcharts etc.
Make sure to send four weekly assessment records punctually. Training division is
recording them! Make sure to keep photo copies of every document you post (either
to university or NAITA etc.) make them register posted and keep the slip with you.
This will be useful if they got misplaced in the mail. (That can happen!!)
6. Reporting in corporate environmentIf you are asked to come up with reports and proposals, make sure to be adapted to the
format of the relevant company. Refer early reports. The reporting formats may be
very much different than the university. When you are making a document to the
company make sure it is up to the standard. Get advice from your training supervisor
beforehand. Remember that you are reflecting yourself through the document.
7. Training reportIt is the main document work you have throughout the training period. You must start
your report just after you go to training. Introduction about the company authority
hierarchy (basically chapter 1) you can easily start may be after one week of your

training. At the ends of each week try to add something to your training report.
Periodically you can review what you have written up to now (may be monthly basis).
In this manner your training report will be smoothly developing without making a
burden to you at the end. It will be really informative and successful and complete.
Whatever you do make sure you strongly adhere to the format given by the industrial
training division. Captions (figures and tables) colour coding the final report etc.
Make sure you read and understand the instruction given by train division on this
regards.( Instructions regarding the report is annexed to the student handbook given
by industrial training division)
8. Make relationshipsTraining is not a matter of 24weeks. Your training supervisor, your mentor must be
your lifelong friends. Try to make a professional relationship with them. Be
enthusiastic about your training, understand the value of it, work hard, they will
appreciate you.
9. Enjoy!!!Training time is one of most important time in a life of an engineer, it doesnt mean
that you have to be deadly serious always. Participate to get-togethers and CSR
projects and parties and get to know each others. But always remember that you are
an engineering undergraduate and a trainee in the company; hence identify your
limits.
10.InterviewBe really prepared for the final interview by the university. Recall what you learned.
Key figures etc. try to predict the questions by the panel and make yourself prepare to
answer.
