It is my pleasure to welcome you back to campus for the Golden Alumni Reunion Celebrating the Class of 1960. I hope you’ll be able to join your fellow classmates and the East Carolina Alumni Association during Homecoming 2010: Rock’n in the Purple and Gold. The weekend is full of fun activities, including the Golden Alumni Induction Dinner, a Special Presentation from University Archives, Homecoming Luncheon, Classes without Quizzes, tours of campus, the Alumni Awards Ceremony and Dinner, Alumni Breakfast, parade watching, Alumni Tailgate, Pirates Football, and of course the traditional Alumni Reunion Dinner Dance featuring The Collegians.

I hope you’ll make plans to attend the 2010 Alumni Reunion Celebrating the Class of 1960 today, and I look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Reunion ConfirmationA confirmation letter will be mailed to you upon receipt of your registration. The reservation deadline is Friday, October 1. Tickets to events will not be mailed.

Cancellations/RefundsCancellation and refunds must be submitted in writing (mail, fax, or e-mail) to our office by Friday, October 1. “No shows” will not be refunded.

Special NeedsFor individuals with disabilities and/or dietary restrictions requiring special assistance, please contact Betsy Rabon ’86 at 252-328-6072 or toll-free at 800-ECU-GRAD by Friday, October 1 so proper consideration may be given to your request.

Football TicketsFootball tickets can be purchased through the Athletic Ticket Office by calling Casey Strader at 800-DIAL-ECU or online at ECUPirates.com. Type in group code “ECUALUMNI” to reserve your ticket in the reunion block. Tickets are $30.00 for adults and $25.00 for children and must be purchased by Friday, October 8. Contact the Ticket Office at the number above for handicap requests.

Hotel ReservationsThe suggested hotel for this reunion is the City Hotel & Bistro. Make your reservation by Friday, September 24 by calling 877-271-2616. Mention “ECU Homecoming” to receive the $149.00 per night rate, which includes hot breakfast.

Shuttle ServiceShuttle service will be provided on Saturday from the City Hotel & Bistro from 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. The shuttle schedule will be available at check-in or at PirateAlumni.com/homecoming.

Attendees will be able to tour University Archives and Special Collections, as well as create an archival moment through commentary and a panel discussion.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour of ECU Athletics Facilities10:15-11:45 a.m. Tour departs from Marie’s Café in Minges ColiseumVisit the Murphy Center, Club Level, Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, Clark-LeClair Baseball Stadium and the new softball stadium (depending on construction progress).

Behind-the-Scenes Tour of McGinnis Theatre10:30-11:30 a.m. Tour departs from McGinnis Theatre LobbyTake a tour of McGinnis Theatre to see the tricks of the trade and how talented production and technical directors make magic on stage.

Homecoming Luncheon12:00 noon–1:00 p.m. Mendenhall Student Center, Cynthia LoungeJoin fellow alumni and friends for the Homecoming Luncheon. Dr. John Tucker, professor of history, University historian, director of Asian studies, and director of the Voyages of Discovery Lecture Series will bring ECU history to life. Registration is required and space is limited to 60 people.

Walking Tour of Campus1:15–2:15 p.m.Tour departs from the Joyner Library’s Sonic Gates (sound columns)Bring your walking shoes to enjoy an ECU Ambassador-led walking tour of the University’s beautiful main campus. Registration is preferred.

Walking Tour of the College of Nursing and Laupus Library2:30–4:30 p.m.Bus departs from the Joyner Library Clock Tower (Please note, this is a walking tour. A bus will shuttle participants from east to west campus and back.)Join us for an exciting tour of the College of Nursing, including the Simulation and Anesthesia Labs, as well as Laupus Library, including an exhibit celebrating the College of Nursing’s 50th anniversary. Registration is required and space is limited to 40 people.

Media Specialist for PCMH/University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina Beth Ann Atkins, CommCrew President and seasoned reporter/writer Mary Schulken ’79, and School of Communication Journalism Instructor Barbara Bullington will lead a discussion in using social media and marketing to reach audiences, disseminate news, and how it’s being taught in the classroom. Dean Lindo, an ECU student, will provide a hands-on demonstration on podcasting.

Brigadier General Catherine Chilton ’81 Returns to Campus2:15-3:15 p.m., Mendenhall Student Center 244

Brigadier General Catherine Chilton is career Air Force and ECU ROTC graduate. Her current post is mobilization assistant to the commander, electronic systems center, Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. Join current ROTC cadets to hear from Brig. Gen. Chilton.

Golden Corral Culinary Center Cooking Class2:15-3:15 p.m., Golden Corral Culinary Center$10 per person. Limited availability (20 people). J.P. Walsh, associate director of RENCI@ECU and associate professor in the Department of Geological Science and the Institute for Coastal Science and Policy, will explore the hazards that threaten our precious coastline.
