BLOCK PLANS

The majority of venues proposed for the delivery of the 2018 Commonwealth Games sports programme are already in existence with proposed upgrades and overlay planned to ensure that the venues meet the requirements of the International Sport Federations, provide the athletes with the best opportunity to perform at the highest level and provide a comfortable and relaxed setting for spectators.

As a Candidate City, planning for the delivery of Games venues has been based around the following principles:

The delivery of high quality venues for the athletes, officials and spectators; and

Sustainable venues which will leave a lasting legacy for the sport and the Gold Coast community.

Our construction program will roll out the competition venues required for the Games over the years prior to the event, with the completion of all venues by 2017, leaving ample time for testing of the facilities.

The following overlay drawings demonstrate that as a Candidate City, we have considered the operational requirements of the Commonwealth Games constituent groups and we believe this will give us a flying start to our operational planning in the event of a successful bid.

These drawings, along with the space schedules contained in the Commonwealth Games Manual - Overlay and Venue Development, have been used to develop our venues and infrastructure budget and as such are an important part of our rigorous bidding process.
