Flow of information/knowledge construction and

architecture

• Bottom-up: the information/knowledge is selected, collected and described by users (mainly teachers), then it is judged by experts (generally university teachers or regional research centers researchers) and afterwards it is offered to users

• Full-text database

Information description

• The information is described through metadata

• The metadata schema is a subset of LOM

• The repository has a subject indexing through the LRE thesaurus

National projects using the GOLD model

Recently, the Ministry of education had adopted the GOLD model for many national projects such as the national project on Citizenship, on Music Education and within the School 2.0 and Interactive Whiteboard projects, thus widening the reach of the GOLD model

Call for funds

• One every year, in June (when school year has finished)

• Contribution to schools: 3.000 € (1.000 € for the documentation work already done; 2.000 € for transforming the documentation into a multimedia product or – in case the documentation is already multimedia – for training other teachers

Shift in the narratives of teachers’ documentation

Teachers are being trained to use multimedia in documentation.

This shift has several advantages:

• To allow teachers to use multimedia with a specific objective• To transfer the knowledge acquired in multimedia documentation to

everyday classes• To “force” team documentation, thus having a pool of documenting

teachers and not a lonely documenting teachers• To allow students’ participation in the process of documenting their

school experience (shared metacognition –> formative process)• To explore the new opportunities of the web

Facts and figures• About 6,000 practices described + 7,000

LOs• 786 best practices selected• Around 500 hits/day on the GOLD national

site • Single statistics on each practice • Project started in 1999• Mentioned in a Florence University –

Faculty of social sciences - study as one of the 4 best projects in the public administration sector
