What Is a Web Site? Every Web site has a unique address, or uniform resource locator (URL), that includes a three-letter extension that identifies the type of site.

The World Wide Web is an electronic system (software) used to navigate the huge collection of information, services, and Web sites accessible through the Internet. Web sites are specific locations on the Internet.

A company that provides access to the Internet, usually for a monthly fee. Their responsibilities include maintaining equipment, providing customer service, and protecting the network.

What is a Modem?To connect your computer to the Internet, you need a modem to send and receive data.
A Modem can be internal or external
For home users, the most common types of modems are:
Telephone (dial-up) DSL (digital subscriber line) Cable

Modem-A modem is a piece of equipment that lets your computer talk to other computers using telephone lines, cable lines, fiber optic wires, or even wireless connections.
The word modem comes from a combination of the words:MOdulator and DEModulator

What is a Search Engine?Search engines are the primary method Internet surfers use to locate information on the Web
Many of the major search engines are created through an automated process in which a program called a spider "crawls" across the Web to gather information about existing sites. The spider captures this basic information and organizes its findings into categorizes, which are then used to generate search results for users.

1995: AOL (America Online), Prodigy, and CompuServe offer dial up service to the internet for home use.
