What Is Faith?

• 1 Now faith is the substance (foundation of assurance) of things hoped for, the evidence (proof/conviction) of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. Heb.11:1-3

How Do We Get This Faith?

• Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

• Romans 1:17 For in it (the Gospel v.16; 1 Pet. 1:25) the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."

By Faith, Abraham Obeyed

• What did Abraham’s faith include?– Obedience. To what? v.8– To what God told him to do. Genesis 12:1-4– Faith always demands some type of action!

• Abraham was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance.

• And he went out NOT KNOWING where he was going.

How To Walk By Faith

• Today we are to walk by faith not by sight!

2 Cor. 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

• Abraham walked by faith not by sight! – He went not knowing where he was going.– He followed God’s direction, without seeing for

himself first. He completely trusted God!

• Are you walking by faith today like Abraham? Prov. 3:5-6; Mt. 17:5

How To Walk By Faith

• By Faith Abraham waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. v.10, 13-16

• Are you also waiting for heaven? – We should “walk” each day eagerly looking to

the eternal rewards! Rom. 8:23-25; 1Pet.1:3-5– Like Sarah we need to Judge Him faithful who

has promised us these things. V.11

You Can Walk By Faith!

Moses Walked By Faith… vv.24-29– Refused his old life… and obeyed God– Chose to suffer with the people of God.– Chose not to enjoy the passing pleasures of

sin.– Esteemed the reproach of Christ greater

riches than Egypt’s treasures. 1 Pet. 4:16,19 Looking toward heaven!

– He endured as seeing Him who is invisible!

We Must Walk By Faith Today!

• We must follow the examples of the faithful recorded in the Bible. Heb. 11

• By faith we shall overcome the world through Christ! 1 Jn. 5:4; Phil. 4:13
