Creating a GoHigherKY.org Account• Try to create a unique

username. • Try using the first part of

your e-mail address before or after your username.

• Remember, you will be sending your information to colleges. Be professional when deciding on an e-mail address.

• Enter your date of birth like “12/25/1981.”

• Go to the home page or to “myGoHigher” to create your account.

4. The first step in applying for all types of aid is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Fill out the FAFSA online at GoHigherKY.org in the “FAFSA Transfer” section.

5. Determine your expected family contribution (EFC) before you file your FAFSA. Your EFC is an estimate of your family’s cost of paying for school.

6. Estimate monthly student loan payments.

• Know what major you might study? Search scholarships by keywords such as education, law, music, etc.

• Search for scholarships based on the information in your “myGoHigher” account.

FAFSA Transfer

• Filling out the FAFSA is the first step in applying for financial aid.

• The GoHigherKY.org “FAFSA Transfer” will allow you to transfer certain data from your GoHigherKY.org profile straight to the FAFSA application.

• It’s free.

FAFSA transfer• Fill out the

FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 of the year you plan to attend college. Some grants (free money) are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, so apply early.

• Give you the date and confirmation number of your submitted applications.
