morning meeting

ACTIVITY Have fun with wacky hair! If you want, send a picture to your teacher of your child’s wacky hair. Maybe you can make spikes like a stegosaurus. Let’s do a read aloud about dinosaurs. Try The World of Dinosaurs Big and Small by Maya Ray.

LEARNING SKILLS Comprehending and responding to books

Materials Read aloud

Greeting

ACTIVITY Begin the day with positive energy; start your day with a big smile and a “Good morning” to your child!

Have your little one place his or her hands on top of his or her head with fingers laced. Have your child take a deep breath as he or she raises his or her hands into the air (like he or she is filling up a beach ball overhead). See if your child can take an additional quick breath to get a little bit more air into the ball. Hold it for three seconds, if possible. After that, ask your child to slowly release the air out of the pretend beach ball. As it deflates, his or her hands should drop back down to his or her head. See if he or she can make a whistling sound as the air is released from the pretend beach ball. Repeat this three times.

Purposeful Exploration

ACTIVITY Encourage your child to try to make his or her own fossils using the molding dough you just created. Flatten the dough and use pasta to create your own dinosaur. Push pasta into the dough to make fossil prints.

LEARNING SKILLS Demonstrating fine motor strength and coordination

Materials Molding dough, any type of pasta (fusilli, penne and rigatoni work well)

Pre-Exploration

ACTIVITY Let’s try making our own homemade molding dough today.

Try this recipe: · 2 cups flour · 1 cup salt · 1 tablespoon oil · 1 cup cold water · 2 drops food coloring

Mix all the ingredients together. Ask your little one what color he or she would like to make it.

LEARNING SKILLS Scientific investigations

Materials Molding dough recipe, ingredients

LEARNING SKILLS Scientific exploration

Materials Video clips, Hard hard toys to bury in the sand or dirt

outside time

ACTIVITY Let’s try a game of hopscotch. Use sidewalk chalk or a drawing rock to create a hopscotch game in the driveway or on a sidewalk. Have your child name the number as he or she jumps on it.

LEARNING SKILLS Demonstrating gross motor skills, numbers
