The heart of education … is the education of the heart.
God Bless Us Every One
Central Christian has a new name for our annual fall fundraising banquet event: the Stewardship
Dinner. This year, with the performance of the musical God Bless Us Every One, the school will be
hosting our Stewardship Dinner Theater on Saturday, November 12. Prior to the musical, guests
will enjoy a meal catered by Kathie Girst (‘66). Faculty and staff will also be honored for their
years of service. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets for the 2016
Stewardship Dinner Theater are $30 per person and can be purchased at the school office.
A limited number of Sponsorship Tables are available for $300 per table of eight. Please RSVP
by Thursday, November 3. For more
information, contact Central Christian
School at 620-663-2174.

Tuition and fees cover about 75% of the
operating cost of Central Christian School.
We rely on gifts and fundraising events to
help keep tuition affordable. To help bridge
the gap between this school year’s tuition
income and operating expenses, we hope to
receive at least $60,000 at the Stewardship
Dinner Theater. In addition, our Faith Promise
Pledges goal is $16,000. More financial
goal information on page 3.
Please prayerfully consider what the Lord
would have you give. Your tax-deductible
gifts will be directly applied toward
achieving these goals. We look forward to seeing you at the Stewardship Dinner Theater!
Superintendent In its purest form, the Christian life is lived out with the constant conviction that Jesus
is Lord of all (Acts 10:36) and by Him and through Him all things exist (I Cor. 8:6). This
is true of education as well. Noah Webster stated:
“…any system of education…which limits instruction to the arts and sciences,
and rejects the aids of religion (Christian faith) in forming the character of citizens
is essentially defective.”
God-centered education has been replaced by man-centered education today.
Dr. Christian Overman, founder of the ministry Worldview Matters states:
“If it is a religious matter to teach -or to imply- that the Bible provides a standard for social and
moral order, is it not also a religious matter to teach -or to imply- that it does not? If it is a
religious position to say, ‘Jesus is Lord of all, and by Him and through Him all things exist,’ is it not
also a religious position to say -in so many words, or lack thereof- Christ and the Bible are
irrelevant to our discussion of biology, physics and math?”
There is no sacred and unsacred if God created all and is sovereign in ALL THINGS. Poet,
Wendell Barry put it this way:
“There are no sacred and unsacred places; there are only sacred and desecrated places.”
At Central Christian School our life changing education is a “wholistic” education. This word was
coined by authors Miller and Moffitt in their book “Life Work,” to emphasize the fact noted above
that “Jesus is Lord of all, and through Him all things exist.” All truth is God’s truth (I John 5:6).
Biology, physics, and math are laced with the wonders of God’s creation (Col. 1:23). Volleyball,
football, and cross country strive to teach the character of God, the sacrifice of Jesus, and the
discipline of serving others ahead of yourself. Our English and history classes review the dominion
of our Creator. Our music, arts, and Bible instruction focuses on learning about, praising,
worshiping, and adoring our Creator. The educational endeavor can be done in alignment with
God, or in opposition to Him; in harmony with God or in conflict with Him. THERE IS NO SUCH THING
AS A “NEUTRAL EDUCATION” (I John 4:6). “There are only sacred and desecrated places,” noth-
ing in between. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof…” (Ps. 24:1). At CCS we mentor
our students to be in harmony and alignment with the Creator of the universe.
A very special Thank You to all those who contributed to the
Playground Item-less Auction Item from the 2015 Low German
Supper and Auction. Our elementary students are very grateful!
Last year Central Christian received nearly $2,000 from Box Tops
for Education for the coupons we
submitted. Each Box Top coupon is worth ten
cents. Thank you to all who clip and turn in Box
Tops to the school. Please continue to do so!

From the time of auditions in May, through our CCS Musical
Camp in August, and culminating with our
performance in November, our music students
have spent seven months working on solos,
memorizing lines, and practicing
choreography. The students have also
helped with set and prop construction, set
painting, and
back stage
organization. In all ways, they are working hard
to put on a fantastic show. The musical’s cast is
comprised of high school choir members and
some sixth graders who play the roles of
orphans. Central’s performance this November
marks the first time this musical has been
performed by a high school and younger cast.
Here’s a little about God Bless Us Every One
from composer Robert Sterling’s website: It is Christmas 1870, and Dr. Timothy Cratchit is about to set sail for a new life in
Boston when he learns he has inherited a dilapidated clinic from his beloved
Uncle Mr. Scrooge. Before he can leave for America, he must first do his duty as
an Englishman and find a doctor to run the clinic.
When none can be found, Tim has little choice but
to take the job himself temporarily, of course. Or is
it? Once he meets the pretty but headstrong
young nurse who works there, along with the
orphans in her care, Tim has to decide between
the two very different futures that await him.
The story line of the musical compels us as
Christians to examine how we are showing the
love of Christ to those who are in need.
During the show, the characters on stage realize that it is their Christian
duty to care for the orphans and sick in their community, rather than to
leave this responsibility to the government. The musical is under the
direction of Mrs. Angela Huck with assistance from Mrs. Dawn Willcox.

Financial Goals
The Board of Trustees has been praying
about our need to pay off the school’s
debt of $298,065.
What generated the debt?
Building additions – year 2001 and prior
-$ 77,489
Building improvements – years 2014-2016
-$91,000 (locker rooms and firewall)
Cumulative prior years’ operating deficits
-$129,576
Total debt
-$298,065
It is our desire to drop the debt, to pay it
down, and to be debt-free. We know
that God provides funds through His
people. We are asking for donations to
enable us to meet this goal.
During our Grandparents’ Day Music
Program, several slides were shown giving students’ responses to what they have seen God do. Their responses were
priceless. Oh, the faith of a child! Some are included here:
1st grade – “My dad got stitches in his hand and God healed it”; “Aunt Kay got sick and God healed her”; “Our family
prayed for another dog and we got one!”
2nd
grade – “God helped me get over pneumonia”; “Grandpa’s heart is beating at the right speed”; “My friend’s jaw is
all healed up!”; “Sunshine’s tail stopped bleeding.”
3rd
grade – “The baby who had heart surgery is recovering”; “My aunt with cancer is doing better”; “I’ve prayed for
sad people and they’ve felt better.”
4th grade – “My mom had a really bad headache. I prayed…and…she was better.”
5th grade – “My cousin had brain surgery and is doing well”; “My dad is recovering.”
Kindergarten - 8th Grade
On Friday, September 23rd
, we had a GRAND event take
place at CCS. We celebrated our Godly Heritage along
with our grandparents using
the theme “In God We Trust.”
Grandparents were treated
to a fantastic music program
featuring K-5 students and the
Middle School Choir. They
were invited to participate in
our Crazy Cake Auction
(cakes created by some of
our elementary families) and were able to visit classrooms
where a number of creative activities were taking place.
Students felt special getting
to share the day with grand-
parents and enjoyed getting
to show them off. It was a
great day to recognize the
heritage that our Godly
grandparents have
bestowed on us.
If you visit the elementary hallway you may notice that things look a
bit different. We are still under construction as we wait for some of our
carpet to arrive, but we like the new colors on our walls and in some of
our classrooms. We have new blue and green striping and will soon be
adding bulletin boards and cork strips for hanging student work.
Our chapel day has changed to Tuesday. We meet from 8:55 – 9:25
in the cafeteria, right before the secondary chapel, and would welcome
visitors. Our school is a wonderful place to grow educationally, socially,
and spiritually as we learn about and serve Christ Jesus together!

The Spirit of ’76 lives on as the Class of 1976 cele-
brated their 40-year reunion September 3 & 4.
Seventeen out of 33 class members met at the Oasis
Ranch and Retreat Center (on the home place of
classmate, Kelly Schmucker). The day began with a
light brunch, followed by an afternoon of reminiscing
and catching up, then a Dutch oven evening meal
prepared by Jim Holmes and Mark Hebrank. The class
wrapped up their evening with s’mores around a
campfire and singing led by Jack Jackson and Bill
Eldridge. Sunday morning the group met at the school
for a worship service led by classmate Glenn Johnson,
who currently pastors a church in Nebraska, and music
by Living Water, a group of classmates who sang
together during their school days. The class wills and
prophesies were read, and Kathie Girst, their former home economics teacher,
prepared a delicious lunch. They also enjoyed a tour of the school led by Tim
Kuhns, who graduated a year ahead of their class. Thank you Class of ’76 for
returning to CCS to celebrate your 40-year reunion!

For the past several years, our high
school football team has operated as
a club team, which meant we played
only a nine game schedule with no
possibility of competing in state
playoffs. This season is the first season
in many years for CCS football to shed
its club status and become a full
member of the Kansas State High
School Activities Association. That
means we now are assigned a district
and have the opportunity to compete
in state playoff games. The team is
proving that they be-
long, and have
opened the season with a 6-1 record.
Coach Lee Smith has worked hard changing the culture from expecting to lose, to
expecting to play well and win! He had the following to say about the 2016 team:
“It has been a great group of young men to work with. We have been emphasizing
controlling the things we can control, namely: (1) our attitude - taking every
thought captive to the obedience of Christ (II Cor. 10:5) and (2) our effort - In all
labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury (Prov. 14:23). I
think these have been great strengths of this team up to this point, and it is neat to
see the boys experience the profit of their hard work.”
Rainy weather did not hinder the success of the CCS Fall Golf Classic Saturday,
September 24. A total of 44 golfers, including Central Christian alumni, came out
to the links at Crazy Horse Golf Course in support of the CCS Golf Team and
Booster Club. The winning team was
R.A. Edwards, Bob Peel, and Bob
and Michelle Capps at 7 under par.
Thank you, CCS Golf Coach Bart
Kooiman for organizing the
tournament, and thanks also to the
many others who made it a great
day.
Another school year has begun! Teachers have been preparing their classroom themes and lesson plans for their
new students. Our teachers were also given the opportunity to learn at the Fundamental Learning Center in
Wichita. Over three full training days, teachers learned literacy techniques to assist all our young students in their
reading success. These literacy techniques and lessons are an enhancement to our strong phonics emphasis and
faith based integrated curriculum. We are excited to be working with our elementary teacher colleagues in our
journey to create an even more effective and excellent curriculum for our students.
Torie Penner, Preschool Director
Grandparents Day was on September 23rd
. Donuts
and coffee were served in the preschool office
area as many got acquainted with one another.
Grandparents or special guests were able to
participate in lesson times, centers, outside play,
and a special program before they gave
goodbye hugs and kisses for the day. Some even stayed a little longer because they
had so much fun!
The Preschool Harvest Party and Hayride was a lot of fun. Our preschool-
ers really enjoyed the festivities along with many parents and
grandparents. Here is what a few of our students had to say: “It was
great!” – Rogina;“My favorite part was having a party!” – Roxanne; “When
I was on the hayride, I found some animals!” – Gabby; “I got to go on a
hayride with my Nana!” – Vivienne; “My favorite part was having fruit
punch, and I got to ride the tractor for a hayride!” – Cooper; “I liked
riding on the hayride, and I liked the music on the hayride too!” – Samuel.
Central’s sixth graders were engineers for a day. They built struc-
tures using fettuccine noodles and marshmallows. The students
then simulated earthquake-like seismic waves to test the integrity
of their structures. This science experiment was also used to teach
that it is best to build lives on the solid foundation of God and His
Word.
Oil is a very important resource. But sometimes oil spills occur
while oil is being transported. Oil spills can cause harm to our en-
vironment. The sixth graders used the scientific process to deter-
mine the best way to clean up oil from water in their containers.
The tools that were used related to actual tools and methods
used to clean up oil spills.
VISION STATEMENT: Central Christian School aspires to glorify God by partnering with Christian families and churches to educate students to help them gain a firm assurance of their
salvation in Jesus Christ and instill in them the desire to love and serve God as mature Christians.
