FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

POVERTY IN AMERICA: A THREAT TO THE COMMON GOOD

“What does the Lord require of you? To do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

We’ve heard the scripture verse above, but do we act for justice? As we celebrate the Easter Season, we experience a sense of renewal.

Take that spirit and act to help those living in poverty.

Catholic Social Teaching reminds us that as Catholics we must show a preferential option for the poor. About 1 in 8 Americans,

including 1 in 6 children live below the federal poverty line, totaling 37 million people.

Catholic Charities USA’s Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America is a multi-year, multi-faceted approach to alleviating poverty in

the United States. The goals of Catholic Charities USA’s Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America are:

To reduce poverty in the United States by 50 percent by the year 2020.

To call upon the government to do more to serve those who are poor, and to improve public policies that strengthen and

support families.

To educate policymakers and the public about the struggles of those living in poverty and the good work of those who serve

them in local communities.

To engage those who are most impacted by government policies to be active participants in developing solutions to reducing

poverty.

To work with individuals and organizations across the country to address poverty in our country.

Please act now and endorse the Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America.

How do I act? Go to www.CatholicCharitiesusa.org/Poverty to learn more, take action and endorse the Campaign today.

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech, but with truth and action. 1 John 3: 18.

God Bless. Father Herb

TITHING

April 10-16 $15,222.24

Same Week Last Year: $18,635.70

From the Pastor: According to an old saying, “the world is

divided into givers and takers; the takers eat well and the

givers sleep well.” To all our generous givers, our deepest

thanks. Tithing brings you and me closer to our Lord God.

Words of Tithing from the Pews: Other appeals for money

have sounded just like that, appeals for money. This was a

challenge to our faith – to put our money where our mouth

was. I honestly wish all spiritual matters were so simple and

direct.

Thank you for your sacrifice of Tithing!

liturgy at Saint Ann’s Church.

We have received such an outpouring of sympathy, love and

ALL SAINTS ACADEMY CORNER

“ASA Angels” at All Saints Academy

Did you know that there are “angels” at All Saints

Academy? Our ASA Angel Fund provides

scholarships as well as assistance for families in

need due to temporary financial setbacks. Our program seeks

financial support from the school community, as well as the

community at large, to help with the current and future needs of

school families. At times, a family may need to leave our school

because of an unexpected, economic concern. Through generous

donations, students may continue their Catholic education at All

Saints Academy. Our hope is that those who cannot pay now will

“pay it forward” when they have the opportunity. Donations for full

or partial scholarships are now being accepted.

Please contact our school office to schedule an appointment to visit

us and tour our school. All Saints Academy is a nationally

recognized STEM school of the Diocese of Paterson. Our school

offers a comprehensive, multi-curricular, rigorous academic program,

centered on values-based education. A strong and loving Catholic

identity permeates the environment. A spirit of faith, respect and joy

are evident in our school. In addition to religious instruction,

students model Christian ideals through cooperative activities,

spiritual and liturgical celebrations, participation in Sacraments, and

service outreach. An active parent organization lends partnership and

support to the school community. The Early Childhood Center offers

classes for three and four year old children. The elementary and

middle school classes include kindergarten through grade eight.

Contact our school principal, Mrs. Judy Berg, at 973-334-4704, to

schedule a tour and classroom visit.

"¿Qué espera el Señor de ti? Hacer justicia, y amar amablemente, y caminar humildemente con tu Dios. "Miqueas 6, 8.
