Goan cuisine is the cuisine of Goa. It is influenced by the maharashtra,south India and mostly by portuguese cuisine.

Port city of Goa up the Mandvi river traded everything from chinese silk to asafetida so it was named as ‘GOA DAURADA’ or ‘GOLDEN GOA’

Goa is famous because of its 451 years history and dominant culture. Mughals ruled all over India but portuguese had a strong hold over Goa and thus similarity in cuisine.

Culinary traditions in Goa are regionally divided into Hindu, Muslim and Latin catholic.

Hindu’s mainly eat rice and fish. Konkan farmer and fisherman are mainly Hindu by caste.

Muslims are pilaf eaters which means dish of rice with spices and meat etc.

Latin catholic cook their food in olive oil and usually eat beef, seafood and pork.

Goan cuisine is very spicy and tangy in taste as well as in flavour.

Coconut is an important ingredients as it gives different aroma and exotic flavour.

Goan cuisines consists of regional foods popular in Goa. Seafood, coconut milk, rice and paste are main ingredients of goan delicacies. Goan cuisine cannot be complete without fish. Apart from cuisine goa is the home to local liqueurs which are called ‘FENI’.

The popular red Goan chillies are also an integral part of Goan cuisine. The Christians prefer to add vinegar to zing up their cuisine while the Hindus use tamarind for the same.

It is made up of basmati rice, flavoured with whole spices such as cinnamon, cardamom and cloves and cooked in either vegetable stock or meat stock.

Bebinca is a very famous sweet dish which is prepared by coconut milk with some sugar, flour and many other delicious ingredients.
