ORIGIN OF THE DISCOVERY
The objects on show in this exhibition are the fruit of a still unknown
culture. Dating based on thermoluminescence tests carried out on
the fusion earth on the bricks, present at the exaction site sets the
objects back to 1.000 B.C. and the iconographic study leads us to
presume that the technique used went on until VI-VII century A.D.
or even beyond.
Similar objects on the Javanese antiques market led an Italian
entrepreneur, Anacleto Spazzapan, to try to trace their origin. An
origin that proved to be in the area of Gua Made, on the island of
Java, about 70km from the town of Surabaya.
In 2001 Mr. Anacleto Spazzapan, in collaboration with the Indonesian
Ministry of Archeology carried out a brief excavation. After 5 years
of neglect, in 2006, Paolo Bertuzzi and the Indonesian Ministry of
Archeology promoted further excavations on the same site.
Due to the importance of the discovery, the Italian Ministry for
Foreign Affairs took upon themselves further excavation works
coming to a bilateral agreement with Indonesia and co-financing
with Hettabretz the 2007 excavation campaign, the direction of
which was entrusted to ISIAO.
The closing down of ISIAO and the change of government in Italy
put the operation back into the hands of Paolo Bertuzzi who has
already coordinated the venture with the Indonesian Ministry for an
excavation campaign in 2009 in search of a greater knowledge of
the culture in question.
Further details about the discovery, excavation campaigns, scientific
analysis as well as information concerning official institutional
contacts which accompanied the operations, are available upon
request.
all’ISIAO.
PERSONAL THOuGHTS ON THE WORLD OF ART
As both a collector and art lover I believe that the profound influence
of the evolution of communication and markets together with their
enormous connected power have contributed to the massification
rather than to the propagation of an educated and critical aesthetic
culture giving rise to two monsters: the bararbarization of aesthetics
and the simplification of the concept of value, at present expressed
mainly in terms of money and firmly connected to the amount of
the same.
This phenomenon is particularly exacerbated in the world of fashion
and art simply because they are fields which move enormous
amounts of money and because it is easier for them, with the
strength of the media, to influence market taste.
After a plurimillennial stretch evolving from cave drawings to an
increasingly refined and sensitive presentation of the artist’s ideas
through the visual arts, a visual aesthetic evolution has begun, more
closely linked to the concept of marketing than to that of traditional
art.
Endeavoring to resist this tendency, which I consider a ‘lure’ for
investors unfortunately represented on the whole by a great number
of unaware and influenced purchasers at the mercy of holders
of mediatic power, I decided to hold small biannual exhibitions
showing diverse forms of handicraft-art of widely differing periods,
places and types but expressing pure aesthetic value or on the
whole with an extremely low mediatic negative influence due to
the mercantile-communicative contexts linked to the time/place to
which the objects refer and thus excluding that extreme part of the
contemporary phenomenon ‘improperly’ called art.

OPINIONI SuL MONDO DELL’ARTE
contemporaneo chiamato “impropriamente” arte.
