Growth Opportunities (GO) Program
The GO Program is McKinley Middle School’s approach to providing our students with 21st Century instruction and skill sets, as well as social-emotional learning, in 21st Century learning spaces. The learning environment provides flexible and mobile seating that promotes the 4Cs; collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity. Instruction is teacher directed but student led, emphasizing relevance, engagement , and student productivity while utilizing instructional strategies such as blended learning, problem-based learning, technology integration, and gradual release.

Personalized learning is also a major attribute of the GO program. Each student will have their own learning profile that will include their personal learning style(s), optimal learning environment, goals, and
areas in need of additional support.
Learning profiles will also depict student progress on the Common Core standards in literacy, language arts, math, science, social studies, and 21st Century skills utilizing McKinley Middle School’s Learner Centered Assessment criteria. Students will have the opportunity to conference once per week with one of the GO instructors to determine individual progress.
GO students will be provided with real-world opportunities in our community. Partnerships with local business, industry, and higher education will give learners first-hand information and experiences as they prepare for the 21st Century workforce.
The GO program is open to all McKinley 7th and 8th grade students who are not enrolled in the EO or TASL programs due to scheduling conflicts. The first 25 7th grade and 25 8th grade students, chosen randomly via lottery, will be enrolled in the program. Additional information and parent/GO staff meeting(s) will be scheduled upon the completion of the lottery process in early August.
