A Note from the PhotographerIntroduction to GMP Quarterly

Whenwestarted thinking about staying in touchwith ournetwork, a newsletter was at the bottom of the list. Wegenerally try to avoid adding to that B2Bmarketing humthat overwhelmes our inboxes.

The idea, however, kept working its way to the surface. Our clients run the gammut: from alpaca farms, tosporting goods companies, electricians, to attorneys, large corporate dental companies to soap makers, andengineers to truck repair shops (check out page 6).

Everyoneweworkwith shares two things; theyget thingsdone, and they treat their clients with integrity andamazing service. They do business the right way, andfollow the golden rule without exception.

As we thought about how our clients have been aconstant source of inspiration and a blessing to ourfamily, it became clear that the only reasonable formatfor a newsletter would be one that returned value tothem. Our quarterly newsletter is as much a quarterlythank-you, as it is a newsletter in the traditional sense.

We expect the quarterly format to include a few greatarticles:

1) A quick note from the photographer: this will discuss

things like gear, the state of the industry, businesslessons learned, etc.

2) A studio update: What's new at Grant MottPhotography?

3) Client showcase: Photos and stories of our amazingclients

4) Photo Tip: quick tutorial on how to take better photos

5) More great photos of our vibrant clients

6) A beautiful image and quote

We hope you enjoy learning about the wonderfulbusinesses in our Client Spotlight, and are able to craetebetter imgaes from the Photo Tips. And most of all, wehope you walk away inspired.

Until next time,

The first half of 2016 has broughtmany changes to GrantMott Photography! The studio moved, we added a fewservices, and have started offering guarantees andbetter file prep as part of all our services.

Back in February we [finally] moved the studio out ofGrant's house. Business professionals are now able toquickly stopby thestudio for abusinessportrait. Ournewlocation-downstairsneighborsofGLAMBeautyBar -hasallowed us to offer affordable hair / makeup services toall our studio clients. The studio has also allowed us tomore efficiently create product photography.

We have launched two new services related to productphotograhpy:Customproductphotography, andstraightforward product photography. Custom productphotography is product photography in the traditionalsense; we work with our clients to design and createartistic, compelling photographs that show-off theirproducts. These types of images are typically used inadvertising, landingpages, and as eye candy in brochursandotherprintedcollateral. Our straight forwardproductphotography service, on the other hand, is designed tobe efficient, affordable, and valuable for businesses thatsell products online. Send us your products, and we'llphotograph them on white, or our re-claimed wood set.Thenwe'll pack the fileswith keywords and size them so

they are ready to be deployed on your e-commercewebsite or marketplaces like Amazon.

This year we also started our satisfaction guarantee: ifyou're not happy with your images because ofsomethingwedidordidn'tdo, letusknowandwe'llmakeit right at no-cost! Wehave alwaysworked hard tomakesure our clients are satisfied, now we're going the extrastep and making it official.

Finally, we have started applying web-optimization tomanyof the imagefileswedeliver. Manyof theclientsweservewill deploy their final images on their websites - sowhynothelp theirSEOa littlebit? Mostpeopledon't thinkabout optimizing their image files to help their web SEO;it's a small stepwe can take to help our clients winmore, and that's kind of awesome!

Client Spotlight - Ultimate Truck Services“We treatourcustomers like family.Whatconcerns themconcerns us.” - Debbie Jennerjohn

It’s 6 AM. Time towarmup the truck. A cider company inPortlandneedsa loadof apple juice fromHoodRiver andyou’re the man to make it happen. Walking across thegravel you notice silence – there is no crunch under footthis morning. You brush frost off the chrome handle andopen the cab door. Then you lean over the seat, slide thekey into the ignition, and…

…Nothing. Who do you call?

ThecrewatUltimateTruckService inRidgefield,WAhasover 141 years of combined experience servicing dieselengines and the equipment they power. They are readyto help.

During my recent conversation with Debbie Jennerjohn(owner with her husband, Dave), she mentioned that“whenCumminsdecided todevelopaServiceAssociateprogram for independant shops, they came to Dave and

I to discuss what the program should be like.” Shecontinued with pride to talk about a few of the morecomplex jobs they’ve handled over the years:

“We took a truck that was rolled, rebuilt the cab andstraightened the frame so it looked brand new.”

"When California cracked down on the emissions fortrucks, we had several truck owners come up to havenewer motors with the emissions package put into theirolder trucks. Wehad to install newcomputers tooperatethe emissions systems and integrate them into theexisting cab schematics to make it all work together."

"We rebuilt a truck that had been sitting beside anothertruck that had caught on fire. We replaced the driver'sdoor, driver’s side fender, the hood, and some otherinternal partswhich hadmelted due to the extremeheat. We also had to rewire the entire truck. The paint and thenew parts to match the original color. This took severalhours but the truck was back in running order, and itsaved

the customer several thousand dollars by not having tobuy a new truck."

Ultimate Truck Service has elevated truck repair. Theirunassuming shop near the Clark County Fairgrounds ishome to some of the most skilled and experiencedmechanics in Southwest Washington. While Dave andDebbie are extremelyproud of their team’s workand capabilities, they alsotreat their employees andcustomers with humility. They make truck servicefeel like a family matter.

Ultimate Truck Servicewasstarted 17 years ago. Dave, with 27 years of experienceas a diesel mechanic, wasready to strike out on hisownandconvincedDebbieto quit her corporate joband provide the back-of-house support needed tothrive.

In his 27 years workingbefore starting UltimateTruck Service, Daveworked as an on-site heavyequipment mechanic, amobile repair companyoperator, and finally as an

in-house mechanic and driver for a trucking company.Engines big and small; truck, car, boat, and heavyequipment; trailers short and long – if it was powered orpulled by diesel, he could fix it. Providing great technicalservices, however, wasn’t fulfillingenough.Hewanted toown his work and provide customers with a greatexperience as well. Seventeen years later, Ultimate

Truck Service has becomea local institution in dieseltruck repair.

“[It’s fascinating to thinkabout] all thedifferentwaystrucks affect our day to daylives.” - Debbie Jennerjohn.

Through its longevity andreputation as beingk n o w l e d g e a b l e ,experienced, thorough,and safety minded, UTShas become the mechanickeeping many privatevehicle fleets runningacross Clark county.

Next time your diesel truckor trailer needs attention, call 360-574-6886 and askfor Kristin or Shelby; they’lltreat you like family, andtake care of your truck likeit’s their own. - GMP

We all have problem areas; those parts of our body thatwe really don’t like. One of the most common problemareas in people over the age of 20 (or thereabouts) is thelower face / neck. It tends to sag, and no one likes anunshapely face.

UFS - unshapely face syndrome, as I have just nowdecided to call it - is easy to take care of. All you need todo is find your inner turtle. Just like a turtle stretches itshead out of its shell, extend your head towards thecamera. The trick here is to find thebalancebetweennotstretching far enough (UFS goes un-resolved), andstretching too far and turning yourself into Quasimodo.Be careful not to push the topor bottomof your head toofar forward; they should be naturally aligned. Your neck, however, will not be.

There’s onemore consideration when finding your inner

turtle: The direction you shift your head must always bedirectly towards thecamera. Thismeans that if yournoseis pointed to the right of the camera, it will be your leftcheek that is moving towards the camera. The goal is toshift the head towards the camera and tighten up all thatextra skin closest to the camera at base of your face.

Next timeyou’re in frontof amirror, takeamoment to findyour inner turtle's happy medium. I promise this will bethe least natural feeling thing you do today; but I alsopromise that if you work at it for a moment you willexperience the magic and never cage your inner turtleagain. -GMP
