Hello and welcome to the Summer2013 GMCC Newsletter.

The Spring Newsletter proved moreof a battle to get published thanI had anticipated, but it seems tohave been worth the effort andwent down well with readers. When

I took a few round local bikeshops the staff immediately openedit and started reading andlikewise at the second CoffeeCranks Film Night .

In fact, the newsletter went to asecond print run to provide morecopies to be distributed to bikeshops and Cllr Kate Chappell,chair of the Manchester CycleForum, has been handing out copies

herself - giving one to thetransport minister Norman Baker.

This packed Summer edition comesout at a special time for cyclingin Manchester, with thepossibility of real progress fromTfGM towards providing highquality Dutch style infrastructureon Oxford Road (see opposite page)and further commitments made inthe Velocity 2025 bid. Meanwhile,

quietly in the background Wiganhas secured 8M for cycle routes.Also there are signs of progresson 20mph zones.

Meantime, July has been named"Bike Month MCR" featuring the NWVelo Fest From Spokes and NationalBike Week. There is a packed diaryon pages 6&7 and more detailsonline. The idea was sparked byKate Chappell who writes about her

enthusiasm for cycling on page 5.
