AHA - GLYCOLIC ACID

Glycolic acid, contained in most of the Gly Ko Line® range of products, plays an essential role in normalising skin problems. The Gly Ko Line® range offers several combinations to meet all types of skin needs.

Origin

Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy acid (AHA) made from sugar cane extracts, beet or grape extracts, recognised for its excellent capacity to penetrate the skin.

Properties

The ability of AHA to reduce hyperkeratosis, to increase skin moisture and promote the penetration of active substances, represents a vital advance in skin care.

The chosen formulation restores the balance between glycolic acid concentration and pH value. In fact, Gly Ko Line® products contain a large concentration of glycolic acid with a high pH value.

Principle

The potential irritation of glycolic acid is much more dependent on a low pH than on its high concentration.

Given that the skin pH varies between 4.2 and 5.6, the cosmetic formulations

containing free acids, with a low pH (1.2 for example), can be extremely irritating to the skin, even at a low concentration. The higher the pH value, the less risk there is of irritation.

Instead of limiting glycolic acid concentrations in the formulations, we have partially neutralised the acid. Therefore, this process allows us to use the highest glycolic acid concentrations leading to an increase in effectiveness without irritation.

Indications

Glycolic acid can be used on any type of skins: dry, oily, normal and sensitive.

Glycolic acid-based preparations can favourably influence the treatment of a certain number of skin disorders such as hyperpigmentation, dry and oily skins, UV ray damaged skin, ichthyosis, keratinisation disorders with hyperkeratosis, acne (vulgaris), xerosis and skin aging.

Results

A daily use of glycolic acid solutions has a strong effect on the beauty of the skin. It acts on the skin’s elasticity and moisture, removes scales and xerosis and effectively helps to reduce or to remove wrinkles. These glycolic acid solutions are particularly valuable and suitable for long-term care.
