    THE PREMISE

    The triumph of family over loneliness.

    A marionette made in the Victorian Era finds himselfwithout a loving owner and is, years later, trapped in a

    museum, until the most unlikely of events reunites him with

    back into the family.

    THE LOGLINE

    The main characters in this storyline are the Toymaker, the

    Marionette and the two little girls, both owners of the puppet in

    different time periods.After being lost by the first girl in Victorian England, the

    marionette ends up lonely and trapped inside a museum yearslater, coming alive at night to spend the cold night by an old

    photograph of his previous owner.

    However, after a field trip to the museum by a group of

    children, a little girl notices the puppet laying motionless beside

    the picture. Recognizing it, she picks it up and puts it into her bag,taking it home to her father, the great, great grandson of theToymaker, who fixes it up and gives it to her daughter, thus the

    story comes full circle.

    THE STEP OUTLINE

    SCENE NO: 1

    CHARACTERS IN SCENE: Marionette, Toymaker

    Rows upon rows of finished, unfinished and clothed marionettes fill the wall s, hanging from various racks by theirhandles. An elderly man walks through the aisles holding a newly finished marionette. Its plain with no ornamentaldesigns or fancy clothing and it its not painted at all. It s just plain wood. He hangs it up in the window display with his

    other creations.

    SCENE NO: 2

    CHARACTERS IN SCENE: Marionette, Victorian Girl , Victorian Girls Mother

    Outside of the store, a li ttle girl with her mother, shown at only the waist-down, notices the new marionette and looksup at her mother with glee, pointing and bouncing in excitement. They both go into the store and buy the puppet.

    SCENE NO: 3

    CHARACTERS IN SCENE: Marionette, Victorian Girl , Victorian Girls Mother

    Late in the evening, the mother and girl walk down a wet pavement. The puppet slips from the litt le girls bag andslumps down into the gutter as he girl and mother walk away, not noticing the abandoned puppet.

    SCENE NO: 4

    CHARACTERS IN SCENE: Marionette

    The now aged marionette now appears to be inside of a museum of sorts, inside of a glass case. I ts covered with dustand dirt. A light switches off nearby and the marionette looks towards it for a moment as the door closes, the museumclosing for the night. Just as the door closes, the marionette grabs his broken and limp arm and tugs, popping the ballfrom its bearing along with a rusted, ragged joint spring which it uses to pick open the case lock. I t jumps down ontothe floor and wanders away into an aisle of glass shelves.

    SCENE NO: 5

    CHARACTERS IN SCENE: Marionette

    As the Marionette walks along a hallway lined with glass cases and shelves displaying many Victorian artifacts, it spotsa small picture frame holding a black and white photo of the Victorian girl . It places its hand upon the glass and sits in

    front of it sadly, clearly lonely and longing for its owner.

    SCENE NO: 6

    CHARACTERS IN SCENE: School Children

    Morning has come and a group of children burst through the museum door, cheering and chattering loudly. Theirteacher guides them towards the corridor.

    SCENE NO: 7

    CHARACTERS IN SCENE: Marionette, Modern Day Girl

    As the children wander through the aisle into the next room, a lone little girl stops and takes notice of the marionettelaying on the floor. Familiar with it, she puts down her drawing book and puts i t in her bag.

    SCENE NO: 8

    CHARACTERS IN SCENE: Marionette, Modern Day Girl, Modern Day Girls Father

    The Modern Day Girl takes the puppet back to her father whos engrossed in a model ship, hunched over i t in

    concentration. The room hes in is the same store room from the beginning, revamped and refurbished wi th newshelves, new lighting and new toys. The girl holds the old puppet to the father who peers at it for a momentsearchingly before realizing its the puppet in the small photograph by his side on the till counter. Its of the Toymaker,his great, great grandfather, holding the very same marionette. He turns back and smiles at the puppet.

    SCENE NO: 9

    CHARACTERS IN SCENE: Marionette, Modern Day Girl

    The Modern Day Girl is sleeping in bed, the covers pulled up high. The Marionette is with her in her arms l ike a teddy

    bear, who is now polished and refurbished. His arm is fixed, the dirt is cleaned off and it has been given a nice new

    glossy coat of varnish. The now-cleaned notches and grooves in the wood on its face now resemble a smile.

    The Puppet

    FADE INT. TOYSTORE 1850

    Long row of various different puppets are strung up by their handles on hooks on a rack, al lclothed in bright colors with smiley faces.

    An elderly toymaker hangs a newly made puppet up onto an empty rack in front of him in

    view of the shop window.

    The new puppet isnt brightly clothed and doesnt have a face. Instead, its just plain wood,

    joined at the limbs by ball bearings in its shoulders, knees, hips, ankles, wrists and elbows.

    INT. OUTSIDE SHOP WINDOW

    A little girl, accompanied by her mother in hand, notices the puppet and points up to it, jumping up and down inexcitement. The mother and girl both enter the shop.

    FADE INT. DANK PAVEMENT GUTTER

    The girl and mother pass by and the marionette drops out from the girls satchel.

    BACKGROUND FADE INT. MUSEUM 2000s

    Marionette not moved since last transition. A nearby light switches off.

    The puppets head looks towards where the light came from. I t grabs its rusty arm, the ball-bearing on his right shoulder broken, and pops it out from i ts socket, a ragged spring coming

    with it which it uses to pick the lock of the glass case its in. It jumps down.

    INT. DISPLAY CORRIDOR

    Rows of glass shelves hold Victorian artifacts, all either dirty or rusted. The puppet wanders

    through the corridor, looking at all these various objects before stopping at a picture frame

    of the little girl it was previously owned by.

    It puts its hand on the glass and lowers its head before si tting down in front of the shelf.

    FADE TO BLACK:

    INT. DISPLAY CORRIDOR DAYTIME

    A group of children on a field trip enter the museum led by their class teacher and they enter the display corridor.One girl stops and is left behind as she is distracted by the puppet lying on the floor next to the frame of the Victoriangirl. She picks it up by the handle and tucks it into her backpack.

    FADE INT. RENOVATED TOYMAKER WORKSHOP

    The new work shop has been revamped since the last view of it. Its now been turned into a store for more moderntoys. The girls father is busy working at the counter, huddled over a work-in-progress model ship. The girl skips over to

    him and holds up the aged puppet to him.

    He smiles and takes it before looking to a small picture frame of the original toymaker.

    FADE INT. LITTLE GIRLS BEDROOM

    The new girl, now the puppets new owner, i s tucked up in bed with the renewed marionette in her arms. The woodand steel ball bearings are polished, varnished and given a glistening sheen to it and its arm is repaired.
