Gloucestershire Science & Technology Park
• A mix of education, research, training and employment• Supported by partners Gfirst, University of Gloucestershire, National
Skills Academy for Nuclear - most importantly employers • Already attracting employers considering re-location and growth• Strongly supported by Magnox/NDA leaving a positive sustainable
legacy from the power station• Opportunity to learn, study, undertake research and work at the same
site

REUSE OR RECYCLE
• Range of buildings on site dating from 1950’s –present day.
• Older buildings are unsurprisingly inefficient in terms of thermal performance.
• Should these buildings be refurbished or demolished to be replaced with new high efficiency buildings.
• Considerations around embodied carbon, life time building performance, human factors.
• Lack of publicly available reliable data.• How much carbon is saved by reusing steel,
brick, concrete?• How can we make informed decisions?• Pilot projects at Berkeley. GREEN reuse of steel
frame. Over cladding insulation, insulated flat roofs.
SMART GRID
• Site is fully electric for heating, cooling and power.
• Single 11kva supply for site with dated transformer infrastructure.
• Potential island site with mix of buildings and uses.
• Working with Schneider Electric to install a “Smart Gird” with integrated battery storage technology.
• Large car park with plans for electric car charging and solar canopies.
• Inputs from building mounted Solar PV with potential for wind and tidal.
• Learner opportunities around battery storage, electricity trading and energy efficiency.
A park with skills, learning and education at its heart………
John Huggett Engineering Hall/ GREEN skills centre
• £5 million new College Campus building specialising in engineering.
• Refurbishment of historic engineering building. • Reusing embodied carbon and inspiring the next
generation of learners.

Local skills and Employment Opportunities
• Very high levels of employment locally in Engineering, Construction and associated businesses
• Significant demand for technically skilled and qualified (young) people• Employers reporting skills are essential to economic growth• Demand for higher level skills and progression to vocational degrees and
apprenticeships• Potential demand generated from infrastructure projects• Responsive education partners
What really makes GSTP unique are the links with education, training and skills.
The connections with the next generation of your employees.
“The future of your business”.
