Silent Prayer of Preparation
*God’s Greetings
*Songs for Worship #5 – “Come, People of the Risen King”
1. Come, people of the Risen King, Who delight to bring Him praise. Come all, and tune your hearts to sing To the Morning Star of grace. From the shifting shadows of the earth We will lift our eyes to Him, Where steady arms of mercy reach To gather children in.
2. Come, those whose joy is morning sun, And those weeping through the night. Come, those who tell of battles won, And those struggling in the fight. For His perfect love will never change, And His mercies never cease, But follow us through all our days With the certain hope of peace.
3. Come, young and old from every land, men and women
of the faith. Come, those with full or empty hands; find the riches of His grace. Over all the world His people sing; shore to shore we hear them call, the Truth that cries through every age: “Our God is all in all.”
Refrain: Rejoice, rejoice! Let every tongue rejoice! One heart, one voice; Oh, Church of Christ, rejoice!
Call to Confession – Psalm 130 Prayer of Confession Assurance – Colossians 2:13-15
*Celebration Hymnal #308 – “There Is a Redeemer”
1. There is a Redeemer-- Jesus, God's own Son; Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One.
2. Jesus, my Redeemer, Name above all names; Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Hope for sinners slain.
3. When I stand in Glory, I will see His face; There I'll serve my King forever In that holy place.
Refrain
Thank you, oh my Father For giving us Your Son And leaving Your Spirit 'Til the work on Earth is done.

*Psalter Hymnal #462 – “Take My Life, and Let It Be”
1. Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days;
Let them flow in endless praise,
Let them flow in endless praise.
2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
3. Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.
4. Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
5. Take my will and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
6. Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.
*Benediction
*Doxology: Psalter Hymnal #473 – “God Be with You Till We Meet Again” (1)
God be with you till we meet again,
By His counsels guide, uphold you,
With His sheep securely fold you,
God be with you till we meet again.
Till we meet, till we meet,
Till we meet at Jesus’ feet;
Till we meet, till we meet,
God be with you till we meet again.

Announcements
This morning, our offering is allocated for the Christian Education Assistance Fund. This fund’s goal is to help our church families meet the financial burden of tuition costs. The fund provides partial tuition credits to our church families on a voluntary basis and assistance grants to families that qualify based on special needs. Monthly offerings are taken for this fund, and you may also give by use of the weekly offering envelope. Please prayerfully consider how you can help to keep our covenant responsibilities to the children of our church. This morning after the worship service, the Elders will be sharing an update with the church congregation. Being Sunday, there will not be a question and answer session. The Council will meet this Wednesday, July 1, at 7:00 pm. Second has an open position for a church secretary. Anyone interested should contact a member of the personnel committee. The members are Arnold Woldhuis, Sid Walters, Randy Ackerman, John Post, and Barry Klaassen. Cassie Haspas will be working in the office to complete the bulletin until a permanent secretary is hired. She will not be working regular office hours. If you need to reach Cassie, please leave a message on the church’s answering machine – 344-7128 or send an email to [email protected]. All announcements must be in by Thursday at 9am. Thank you for your patience during this transitional time. Save the Date: Be included in the NEW Second Christian Reformed Church picture directory! Dates are as follows: August 17 and 18, and September 10, 11, and 12. Stay tuned for more details.
Young Peoples Please talk to Fred or Brian and Hannah soon if you want to join the flood relief work trip in central Michigan during July 15-18. See your email for more details. We are trying to determine if we have a group of teens able to participate this summer.
Member Celebrations We praise God for the following celebrations this week:
The 70th wedding anniversary of Russ and Donna Vanderwell today. The 87th birthday of Bill Pestoor on Friday, July 3.
Prayer Guide Congratulations to Russ and Donna Vanderwell who celebrate 70 years of marriage today. We praise the Lord for His ongoing faithfulness. This young couple married in 1950, and continue to find joy together in their room at Hope Woods all these years later. What a blessing from the Lord to rejoice today with Russ and Donna and their family. We pray for the Lord to bless with His goodness Vashon and Debra (Moote) Chess, who were married yesterday surrounded by their family members at Vashon’s church. May the Lord Jesus grant to them His favor as they go down life’s road together. Please be in prayer for Shirley and Bernie Westra this coming week, along with their daughter Amy Block who accompanies her mom to Ann Arbor for a delicate surgery. Shirley recently lost hearing in one of her ears, and doctors discovered a benign tumor wrapped around her auditory nerve. We pray for Shirley’s surgery tomorrow, and for her and Amy during the recovery in coming days. We also pray for Bernie who remains at home that the Lord will give a wonderful answer for a successful surgery and comfort for this couple as they walk through this health trial. We also pray for protection for Shirley’s life, and for her hearing to be restored. Voice of the Martyrs (a familiar Christian ministry) is calling all Christians to pray this week. June 29, according to church tradition, is the date of the Apostle Paul’s beheading at the hands of Nero in Rome. Currently 1 in 8 believers experience high levels of persecution for following Jesus. Earlier this month (June 8), a Nigerian CRC pastor (and recent grad of Calvin Seminary) was gunned down along with his pregnant wife on their farm, leaving eight children (ages 1-19) as orphans. Let us pray for those like this pastor and his wife (and so many others) who have been killed for their faith in the spread of the gospel and who are part of the great crowd of witnesses spoken of in Hebrews 12.

Evening Worship
June 28, 2020
Prelude ……………………………………………….…….……….…….…....................... David DeVries Call to Worship – Psalm 37..................................................................Dr. Eric Schering Silent Prayer of Preparation *God’s Greeting *Songs for Worship #2 – “Here I am to Worship” 1. Light of the world,
You stepped down into darkness, Opened my eyes, let me see. Beauty that made this heart adore you, Hope of a life spent with you.
2. King of all days,
Oh so highly exalted, Glorious in heaven above. Humbly You came to the earth You created, All for love's sake became poor.
Refrain Here I am to worship; Here I am to bow down; Here I am to say that You're my God. You're altogether lovely, Altogether worthy, Altogether wonderful to me.
Bridge: I'll never know how much it cost To see my sin upon that cross. I'll never know how much it cost To see my sin upon that cross.
“Our World Belongs to God” Found in the Gray Psalter Hymnal #30-34:
30. At Pentecost the Holy Spirit was given to the church. In pouring his Spirit on many peoples God overcomes the divisions of Babel; now people from every tongue, tribe, and nation are gathered into the unity of the body of Christ.
31. Jesus stays with us in Spirit, who renews our hearts, moves us to faith, leads us in the truth, stands by us in our need, and makes our obedience fresh and vibrant.
32. The Spirit thrusts
God’s people into worldwide mission. He impels young and old, men and women, to go next door and far away into science and art, media and marketplace with the good news of God’s grace. The Spirit goes before them and with them, convincing the world of sin and pleading the cause of Christ.
33. The Spirit’s gifts are here to stay
in rich variety— fitting responses to timely needs. We thankfully see each other as gifted members of the fellowship which delights in the creative Spirit’s work. He gives us more than enough to each believer for God’s praise and our neighbor’s welfare.
34. God has not left this world
without ways of knowing him. He shows his power and majesty in the creation; he has mercifully spoken through prophets, history writers, poets, gospel writers, and apostles— and most clearly through the Son. The Spirit who moved humans to write the World of God speaks to us in the Bible.
Offering: Appalachia Reach Out Evening & Offertory Prayer *Songs for Worship #34 – “Knowing You”
1. All I once held dear, built my life upon, All this world reveres, and wants to own, All I once thought gain, I have counted loss; Spent and worthless now, compared to this.
2. Now my heart's desire is to know You more,
To be found in You, and known as Yours, To possess by faith what I could not earn; All surpassing gift of righteousness.
3. Oh, to know the pow’r of Your risen life,
And to know You in Your sufferings, To become like You in Your death, my Lord; So with You to live, and never die.
Refrain: Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You There is no greater thing. You're my all, You're the best, You're my joy, my righteousness, And I love You, Lord.
Scripture: Galatians 5:22,23 & 1 Corinthians 13 Sermon: Fruit of the Spirit: Love Applicatory Prayer *Celebration Hymnal #562– “Be Thou My Vision”
1. Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art-- Thou my best Thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
2. Be Thou my Wisdom and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son, Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
3. Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always; Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
4. High King of Heaven, my victory won, May I reach Heaven's joys, bright heavens Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
*Benediction *Doxology: Celebration Hymnal #354 – “I Cannot Tell”
1. I cannot tell why He, the king of heaven, Should leave the peace of all eternity, Why God himself should lay aside His splendor To leave the Father’s side and come to me. But this is know: our silence filled with singing, And all our darkness fled from heaven’s light When Christ the Lord, so human, yet so holy, In love was born a child for me that holy night.
2. I cannot tell why He, the joy of Heaven, Should give Himself
to suffer for my sin, Why Holy God should love me in my shamefulness, Why He should die to draw my soul to Him. But this I know: that Christ the Lord is risen, And praise name, He’s risen now in me! Because he lives, Ill rise to life eternal! He took my guilty heart, and I’m forever free!
3. I cannot tell when He will rule the nations, How He will claim
His loved ones as His own; And who can tell the holy jubilation When all His children gather ‘round His throne. But this I know: all flesh will see His glory, And skies will burst as all creation sings. The Son will rise on one eternal morning When Christ, the Savior of the world is Lord and King!
