2. RESEARCH THE TOPIC & DESIGN A RESEARCH QUESTION•Start at the library. Ask the librarian for help finding

resources.•Find a combination of books, websites, and articles.

Make sure you write down the information needed to make a bibliography and go to www.easybib.com to format it.

•Read the resources and evaluate them. Fill out an OVPL for each of the sources.

•Take notes and find the areas of controversy associated with that topic. Brainstorm several research questions for that topic.

4. Come up with a Preliminary Thesis.

• Your presentation centers on your THESIS, so write a good one!

• Decide where you stand on the topic. What is the best argument? Formulate your thesis around this argument.

• If you do not have enough information to take a strong stand, do more research.

WHAT IS A GOOD THESIS?• A sentence that summarizes the

✓2. is qualified to give you information. Do not interview your uncle Jerry if you are writing about the WTO, unless of course he works for the WTO or has expertise on the subject!

✓Some of you may want to collect your own information in a way that is not a survey or interview.

✓Data Collection: you may want to collect information through investigation or observation. For example, if studying “GLOCALIZATION”, you can go to food chain stores and see the percentage of their menus that include a localized foods. You could try to determine the percentage of orders that include these foods (though this would be tricky).

✓Data collection like this could be used in collaboration with an interview or a survey.
