Abstract

Our planet Earth is a very beautiful. Allah has made this planet for his

most lovable creature, human being. But in the other sense human

being is destroying it in different ways. One of the main effect I am

going to discuss here that is “Global Warming”.

The term "global warming" is also used to refer to increases in average

temperature of the air and sea at earth's surface. Climate change is the

single biggest environmental crisis of our time. The Earth’s

atmosphere is overloaded with heat forming carbon dioxide which

effects large scale disruptions in climate with disastrous consequences.

We must act now to spur the adoption of cleaner energy sources at

home and abroad.

Introduction

‘Global warming is defined as an increase in the average temperature of the

Earth's atmosphere. It refers to continue rise in the average temperature of

Earth's climate system. Despite of the oceans' role in energy storage, the term

"global warming" is also used to refer to increases in average temperature of

the air and sea at earth's surface. Human interference has been detected in

warming of the atmosphere and the ocean, in changes in the global water cycle,

in reductions in snow and ice. It happens when greenhouse gases like carbon

dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane trap heat and light from the

sun in the earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature. This hurts many

people, animals, and plants.

Sea level rise is accelerating. Dangerous heat waves are becoming more

common. Extreme storm events are increasing in many areas. More severe

droughts are occurring in others. These are just some of the damages of global

warming, which are already having significant and harmful effects on our

health, our environment, and our communities. The 12 warmest years on record

have all occurred since 1998. 2012 was the hottest year ever recorded.

We are the cause:

11

We are overloading our atmosphere with carbon dioxide, which traps heat and

increase the planet’s temperature. Where does all this carbon come from?

The fossil fuels we burn for energy like coal, natural gas, and oil plus the loss

of forests due to deforestation.

These are the major causes of producing global warming. A majority of climate

scientists agree that global warming is happening and that human activity is the

primary cause.

The production of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere alters the radiative

balance of the atmosphere. The net effect is to warm the Earth's surface and

the lower atmosphere because greenhouse gases absorb some of the Earth’s

outgoing heat radiation and reradiate it back towards the surface which may

cause the global warming and other worst effects on human life.

Global climate change has already observable effects on the environment.

Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and

animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. Effects that

scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change

are now occurring as loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise. Scientists

have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise largely

due to greenhouse gasses produced by human activities. It may also cause the

natural disastrous, poor air quality, spreading diseases etc.

The recent climatic events like the massive floods in Pakistan and India, the

Hurricane Katrina in the United States, the droughts in Australia, China,

Pakistan, and India are all the results of increased temperatures due to global

warming. During the 21st century, climatic disasters occurred five times as

11

frequently and killed or affected seventy times as many people. Between

2000 and 2004, an average of 26 climatic disasters was reported each year.

Literature reviews

Climate change is a terrible problem, and it absolutely needs to be solved. It

deserves to be a huge priority. (Bill Gates)

People tend to focus on the here and now. The problem is that, once global

warming is something that most people can feel in the course of their daily

lives, it will be too late to prevent much larger, potentially catastrophic

changes.

(Elizabeth Kolbert)

The warnings about global warming have been extremely clear for a long time.

We are facing a global climate crisis. It is deepening. We are entering a period

of consequences. (Al Gore)

Preservation of our environment is not a liberal or conservative challenge, it’s

common sense. (Ronald Reagan)

Climate change is crap. (Tony Abbott )

There is no question that climate change is happening; the only arguable point

is what part humans are playing in it. ( David Attenborough )

We have to face the reality of climate change. It is arguably the biggest threat

we are facing today. (William Hague )

11

I believe global warming and climate change are real threats to our planet.

(Andrew Cuomo)

Europe is dying. That is one of the unsayable truths of our time. We are

undergoing the moral equivalent of climate change and no one is talking about

it. (Jonathan Sacks)

Analysis

As everyone knows, basically we are the main cause of global warming. You

can control the global warming by reducing the use of fossil fuels and better

control of air pollution caused by industries and power plants. Burning of

fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal, oil and gasoline raises the level of

carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and carbon dioxide is a major contributor

to the greenhouse effect and global warming. You can reduce waste by

choosing reusable products instead of disposables. By recycling half of your

household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

You can take part in Global warming control by reducing the amount of

energy you need to heat and cool your home. Turn down the heat while you

are sleeping at night or away during the day and less driving means fewer

emissions. Besides saving gasoline, walking and biking are great forms of

exercise. Set your water heater at 120 degrees to save energy, and wrap it in

an insulating blanket if it is more than 5 years old. You should plant trees as

11

much as possible because photosynthesis absorbs carbon dioxide gas which

is the main cause of global warming. We should aware of these things so that

we can control the global warming and deaths of human beings.

Conclusion

In my opinion, global warming has not been solved yet because most people ,

governments and organizations are not taking it a serious issue. Global warming

has a major component of pollution, but to stop polluting is not the only scope

of the problem. We need to organize mankind to clean what has been polluted

already and to replace the old polluting business with new ones. Late but not

least, I think we need to celebrate small successes. Many people think their

effort will not be enough but because they cannot see there are millions of other

people and organizations who are achieving many other millions of small things

as well. Media has an important role to play in this last part.
