    consideration the acilities and the aculties oered. What makesthese rankings truly dierent is that we have placed equal weight onresponses given by recruiters as by students and institutes together.

    Our global ranking o these institutions has thrown up someinteresting results. Te ranks o certain universities come as no surprisesince they are that good; but the exciting news pertains to the others,the gate-crashers and hidden gems, which are now part o the crme-de-la-crme o educational institutions that every student worth his

    How did we choose institutes?

    Youth Incs Research Unit (YRU)chose 500 institutes across the worldaer having discussions with students,recruiters and aculty. We also studieddomestic rankings in various countriesto nd the best institutes.

    All institutes were sent identicalsurveys. We contacted currentstudents as well as local andinternational recruiters and gatheredspecic inormation about theinstitutes.

    Factors considered

    Recruiter Perception Identicalsurveys were sent to recruiters

    to rate the institutes that they weremost likely to recruit rom.

    Diversity o Students Teinstitutes were asked to report

    the total number o students oncampus and what percentage o thestudents were international andspeak two or more languages. Genderdiversity o the students was alsoconsidered.

    Diversity o Faculty Teinstitutes were asked to report

    the total number o aculty on campusand what percentage o the aculty wasinternational, held doctorate degreesand were accredited with their ownpublishing material. Gender diversityo aculty was also considered.

    Innovation o Programmes Weconsidered the dierent ways

    used to construct degree programmes.

    Innovation in eachingMethodologies Institutes wereasked to select dierent teachingmethodologies that we consideredinnovative. Some o these includedcompany visits, dual or multiplemajors and course collaborationsbetween dierent departments at theinstitute. Our list was selected aersurveying students across dierentcampuses worldwide.

    Value or Money Weconsidered students opinions

    on whether a particular school wasperceived as value or money. We alsoasked institutes or the percentage ostudents who received some sort ounding rom the institutes.

    Campus Support We askedthe institutes and the students to

    select the dierent types o assistanceprovided by the student ofce or asimilar body on campus. Our list wasselected aer surveying students acrossdierent campuses worldwide.

    Career Service We asked theinstitutes and students about

    the availability and unctioning o acareer service cell and how activesuch a service was or the students.We also considered what percentage

    o students were actually placedthrough the institutes careerservice cell.

    Actual methodology

    We sent invitations to 500 institutes.Institutes were provided a passwordusing which they could sendus their completed survey online.Tey were asked to answer questions

    relating to ull time aculty, careerservice, undergraduate studentand programme inormation

    by the assigned weightage. We thentotalled the score rom all actorsand sorted the scores rom highest tolowest. Te institute with the highestscore was ranked rst.

    Not just numbers!Aer we received the total computedscores or the institutes, we

    Extracurricular Activities onCampus We asked students i

    they were encouraged by the school toparticipate in diferent extracurricularactivities on campus. We also askedthe institutes to select specicextracurricular activities that theyofer on campus.

    Exchange Programmes Institutes were asked to

    report the percentage o students thatopted or exchange programmes. Wealso considered the exchange studentspresent on the institutes campus.

    Student Satisaction Students were asked to rate

    their institutes on various actorsincluding attitude o staf andproessors, location, course contentand so on. Institutes were also asked toreport the graduation rate o studentsenrolled in the rst year.

    o the institutes and asked themto rate specic statements whichwere pertaining to the actors weconsidered in this ranking.

    Over 5000 recruiters were sentemails with a survey. Te recruiterlist was prepared rom the responseso the institutes and also includedinternationally well-known recruiters.Te recruiters were asked to enlistinstitutes that they were likely torecruit rom.

    Te table above is a summaryo the actors and the weightage g ivento each actor when we ranked theinstitutes. Each actor was madeup o a set o questions. Te totalpercentage attributed to thatactor was based on the averagescore o the responses multiplied

    subjectively analysed thedata provided by the institutes,current students and recruiters.I we ound discrepancies in thesatisaction scores and thesubjective descriptions, weomitted the data.

    Institutes that did not fll out the

    survey reports in time

    Out o 500 institutes that werecontacted, 49 institutes did notcomplete the survey on time ordid not respond. We used publiclyavailable inormation on theseinstitutes to include them in ourranking. We also contacted currentstudents and recruiters o theseinstitutes and compared the datawe compiled with the data providedby the institutes that participated inour survey. yi
