Hyosung’s Power Systems Performance Unit provides a full spectrum of power generation, transmission, and distribution services, from

design and engineering to the maintenance of equipment and has been building up on cutting-edge information technology resources and

developing substation automation systems, such as power monitor and control systems, and early detection and prevention systems. Such

vast product assortment and technical know-how are based on our product development history. In 1992, Hyosung was the first in Korea,

and the sixth in the world, to develop a 765kV ultra-high voltage (UHV) transformer, and, in 1999, was the first in the world to manufacture the

800kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS), which has put Hyosung on an equal technological ground as its top global competitors. In 2006 we

acquired one of the top five companies in quality terms as certified by the Chinese government, Nantong Hyosung Transformer Co., Ltd. in

Power TransformerAs the first domestic manufacturer of 765kV power transformers, Hyosung has earned a reputation

of having the highest quality for over 40 years. We offer various types of power transformers with

ratings up to 765kV. Our transformers have off-load or on-load tap changers to adapt to various

network conditions and satisfy both national and international standards. We make sure that the

overall quality of design, manufacturing and testing of our power transformers meet the specific

specifications of each country and we offer customized services to ensure customer satisfaction.

Distribution TransformersHyosung was the first to produce a cast resin transformer in 1982 and have since been recognized

for its technology in substation transmission and distribution industry. Hyosung has gained

technical independence in order to adopt a unique and optimized design that produces the most

reliable transformers.

Oil Immersed Transformer _ Hyosung exports its oil immersed transformers to more than

25 countries all over the world. Based on know-how accumulated over several years,

Hyosung’s oil-immersed transformer has been supplied to various industries including

semiconductor, steel work, and petrochemical. Further, as an outstanding and comprehensive

solution provider, we respond to the demanding requirements of our customers by developing

and manufacturing both eco-friendly and high-efficiency transformers.

Cast Resin Transformer _ Hyosung’s cast resin transformer features compact size,

minimized power loss and noise by adopting the latest design techniques. Our cast resin

transformer is certified by ISO and CESI, international certification authorities. In 2008, we

obtained the coveted seismic and vibration test (Q-Class) certificate, proving once more that

our quality management and technical competence are unmatched.

Shunt ReactorHyosung offers efficient shunt reactors that are manufactured to the needs of the global customers,

helping to increase the effectiveness of their grids. Shunt reactors improve the effectiveness of the

grid by compensating the capacitive reactive power, reducing system-frequency overvoltage during

sudden load drop or no load, and improving stability of transmission. Hyosung designs and

manufactures shunt reactors specialized for specific solutions including voltage ratings, type of

operations, low loss and noise levels, connections, and type of cooling. Now Hyosung has

established a facility dedicated to manufacturing shunt reactors of various voltages and actively

exports shunt reactors to North America, Europe, and the Middle East, as well as to domestic

industries.

Gas Insulated TransformerHyosung’s SF6 gas insulated transformer is an excellent solution for densely populated and

environmentally sensitive areas where oil-free transformers are needed. Hyosung’s SF6 gas-

insulated transformer offers excellent insulation, cooling characteristics, and thermal stability and

provide an excellent solution for the areas when non-flammable transformers are needed.

Special TransformersHyosung provides transformers that are designed to fulfill the special purposes of the global

customers. Hyosung’s special transformers are used when equipment available on site have a

unique voltage. Complying to international quality standards, these transformers offer high

performance without any hassle.

FACTS Transformer _ Hyosung’s FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) transformer

uses large capacity inverter technology to control the power system with high precision and

high speed. Through the large capacity inverter, the transformer is designed and

manufactured so that the effects from the flow of the harmonic currents and the DC current

are minimized to improve the stability of the overall power system and quality, increase power

transmission capacity, and reduce the total power transmission cost.

Mobile Transformer _ Hyosung’s mobile transformer is transported by and operated while

fixed on a transportation vehicle. Its structure allows quick transportation and requires no

assembly for installation. Hyosung uses a special insulation material suitable for high

temperatures to satisfy the transportation conditions and to provide the maximum capacity.

Furnace Transformer _ Hyosung’s furnace transformer has been designed with strong

withstanding voltage characteristics and high short circuit strength; it is mainly used as a shell

type in steel manufacturing. Due to the operation characteristics of the furnace transformer,

frequent switching surges and short circuit operations often occur and Hyosung’s furnace

transformer secures high reliability in order to solve this problem. In addition, since its current

at the low voltage part is far higher than the general transformer for electric power, it uses the

bar-coil which can endure the high current capacity to enhance the overall reliability.

Scott Transformer _ Scott wiring transformer is mainly used for feeding power

to the electric railways. Hyosung’s Scott wiring transformer is designed to

resolve the unbalance of the three-phase due to the single-phase load of

the electric railway. To get a single-phase from the three-phase, the

principal coordinate and the T-coordinate are Scott-wired. Specifications

of the transformers for feeding the power to the electric railway are

30/40MVA, 45/60MVA, 60/80MVA, and 90/120MVA.

High Voltage SwitchgearsWith world-class technology as a foundation, Hyosung provides the most advanced high voltage

GIS and GCB with rated voltage up to 1,100kV.

High Voltage GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear) _ Hyosung offers a wide variety of SF6

Gas Insulated Switchgear ranging with rated voltages from 72.5kV to 1,100kV and rated short-

circuit breaking current up to 63kA. Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) refers to the general

equipment of a substation in a metal enclosure filled with high-insulation SF6 gas and connected

to the ground, which includes a circuit breaker, disconnecting switches, earthing switches, and

peripheral devices (e.g., current transformer, voltage transformer, and lightning arrester). It can be

installed in a small space in cities or buildings. Ensuring reliable and stable operation and good

maintainability, it is especially suited for polluted and/or salty seashore areas. Our GIS ensures reliable

and stable operation along with simple maintainability. Hyosung's GIS has acquired international

certificates from KERI (Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute), CESI (Italy) and KEMA

(Netherlands). Hyosung has now become synonymous as the most trusted GIS supplier in the world.

GCB(Gas Circuit Breaker) _ Hyosung’s puffer-type SF6 Gas Circuit Breaker boasts a

superior operational rate, highly reliable braking, and has become recognized as the most

trusted supplier in the world. Gas Circuit Breaker (GCB) is a switch, which its excellent extinction

performance and insulation feature of the SF6 gas can input the normal current generated in

the power system or block abnormal current. Our puffer-type SF6 GCB with superior arc-

quenching and insulation characteristics, is a dead tank type where the breaker is directly and

mechanically earthed. With reduced failure rate and high reliability for frequent circuit operations,

it boasts the best supply record domestically.

Medium Voltage SwitchgearsHyosung offers medium voltage SF6 GIS with rated voltage of 24~38kV, rated current of

1,250~3,150A and maximum rated breaking current of 40kA. With domestic and international

references and abundant experience and technology, Hyosung’s GIS features maximum reliability

and safety in addition to minimized installation size.

Medium Voltage GIS _ Hyosung’s medium voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS)

maximizes reliability and stability while minimizing the installation area. Hyosung’s medium

voltage GIS uses SF6 gas as its insulating material and includes circuit breaker, disconnector,

and earthing switch in a sealed container for maximized reliability and safety.

Vacuum Circuit Breaker _ Hyosung offers Vacuum Circuit Breaker (VCB) which features

minimal maintenance and improved stability. Hyosung’s Vacuum Circuit Breaker (VCB) adopts

the latest vacuum switching technology to support up to 120,000 switching operations. By

offering various models ranging from 7.2kV to 36kV, we are able to offer specifications optimal

for plants and facilities across the world. VCBs are classified as: Fixed, E-class draw-out type,

F2-class draw-out type, and G-class draw-out type.

Air Circuit Breaker _ Hyosung’s Air Circuit Breaker (ACB) is provided in two standard sizes for optimizing the switchgear. Hyosung’s ACB

features eight setting ranges for optimum use on site. It also protects the high current devices by using GE, while the users are protected with

ZCT. With two types of standardized external dimension, the design of the switchgear is optimal.

PROSWGR _ PROSWGR, Hyosung’s best-selling switchgear model, reduces the space for installation by 40 percent as compared to older

models. PROSWGR, our representative high-voltage switchgear model, reduces the installation area by 40 percent as compared to the

previous models. In addition, it minimizes accidents from spreading since the control, busbar, circuit breaker, and cable units are perfectly

partitioned. PROSWGR, which passed the KERI IEC62271-200 test, provides various interlocks for user’s safety.

Metal-Enclosed Bus Duct & IPB _ Hyosung offers reliable and cost-effective Metal-Enclosed Bus Duct and IPB to satisfy the global

customers’ needs. Our Metal-Enclosed Bus Duct is covered with a metal case, suitable for power plants and substations, buildings, and bus

bar facilities in a factory. The Isolated Phase Bus (IPB) is optimum for high-currents and important high capacity facilities and power plants. Since

the conductor is enclosed within a grounded metal case, there is no risk of accidents with the charging mechanism. Even if any accident

occurs, the spread of the accident is limited. Finally, it is designed by complying with international standards such as ANSI, IEEE, and IEC, the

product endures thermal or mechanical shocks from a short circuit. The conductor is insulated by the support from the insulation shell or the

epoxy support insulation (Porcelain for IPB).

Low Voltage SwitchgearsWith its compact size, solid interior partition, and perfect insulation, Hyosung’s low-voltage switchgear is the best-selling switchgear of the company.

Hyosung’s low-voltage switchgear, developed with in-house advanced technology, is the best enclosed switchgear with high-performance and

reliability. It is the optimal product for power facilities, buildings, factories, public buildings, and various other power plants.

Load Center _ Hyosung’s Load Center has rated voltage of 600V or lower and features a draw-out type large-capacity air circuit breaker,

potential transformer, and current transformer as auxiliary units. It is also equipped with indicators (Ammeter, Voltmeter), a protection relay

(Under-voltage, Ground), a manipulation switch, and a test terminal block on the front. In addition, it provides sufficient space for the primary and

secondary circuit’s cable connection to allow easy installation and maintenance and has a control instrument on the front for easy operation.

Motor Control Center _ Hyosung’s Motor Control Center (MCC) strictly complies with industrial standards and is designed and manufactured

taking into account the user’s safety and convenience during operation. It is covered with steel in order to prevent accidents when power is

impressed. In the past five years, our MCC has been supplied to Yeonggwang and Uljin nuclear power plants and to the thermal power plants in

Taean and Hadong of South Korea. Hyosung has also recently developed a motor control center panel that utilizes an Air Circuit Breaker (ACB).

Control & Protection Panel _ Control & Protection Panel manages all functions related to overall protection and control of circuit breakers,

transformers, bus bars, and feeder lines for supplying stable power. Hyosung’s Control & Protection Panel is suitable for various panel designs

and manufactured in compliance with international standards such as IEC, NEMA, and ANSI. Through 3-dimensional design processes, the

panel’s electrical and mechanical characteristics are enhanced and various panel types may be manufactured.

ProPACProPAC digital protection relay is designed to protect and control the power system. Hyosung offers

a specialized product line-up according to function, which also includes ModBus, a standard

communication protocol.

ProPAC offers a tailored line-up including feeder, transformer, motor, and C-GIS protection.

ProTACHyosung’s ProTAC, a digital measuring instrument, supports various industries via its monitoring of

power quality and its digital meter, which displays measured harmonics values and zero-phase

negative sequence values.

Hyosung’s ProTAC, is composed of ProTAC-Q (Power Quality) used to monitor power quality and

ProTAC-M (Metering) used for general measurements.

ProNETProNET series is an epoch-making communication solution that transmits accurate data of a power

system via a stable and reliable communication system.

ProNET transmits accurate power system data to the superordinate system and is comprised of

two different models with specified purposes: ProNET-μRTU (Micro Remote Terminal Unit) and

ProNET-iMC (Intelligent Media Converter). ProNET uses the standard ModBus communication

method, which enables communication without any additional communication conversion device.

Distributed Control SystemsBased on expertise accumulated over two decades in the water treatment and plant industry,

Hyosung has supplied approximately 100 systems to domestic and overseas customers.

Hyosung’s Distributed Control System divides source-unit systems applied to automatic process

control systems in a manner that is suitable to each plant. This is accomplished by Hyosung’s

distributed control system. A high-speed network connects the central monitoring system to the

mini-system to produce an integrated system.

ECMSHyosung’s ECMS (Electronic Equipment Control & Monitoring System) is a system which are

monitors and controls for power generation facilities in a power plant or a substation; it is divided

into the Bay, the InterBay, and the Station levels. The Bay level consists of the Protection Relay, Bay

Controller, PLC, and RTU. It acquires the status and data of transformers, buses, and feeders and

transmits them to the upper system. When any failure occurs or commands are received from the

upper system, it controls the circuit breaker and is capable of performing other functions

accordingly. It uses IED (Intellectual Electronic Device) which allows communication between IEDs

and supports failure analysis and smooth operation & maintenance of the grid. The InterBay level

processes and sorts the status and data of the devices found in the Bay Level and transmits them

to the Station level. It performs the necessary logic using the acquired data, receives commands

from the Station level, and transmits the commands to each Bay level device. The Station level

stores the data received from the lower level and displays the system status in a graphic format. It

generates events or alarms for important data to assist for user recognition and subsequently prints

out the data. In addition, it receives user commands, transmits them to the lower level, receives the

results from the lower level, and displays the final result. Therefore, it is able to analyze the failures

and remotely set the devices in the Bay level.

HiSASThe HiSAS is a total automated operation system for a substation that gathers a substation’s

operational information and connects the automatic operation program to the monitoring and

control equipment. It supports comprehensive data management and the acquisition of substation

data in order to maximize efficiency and convenience of system operations. Based on the

advanced substation technology, the HiSAS provides a comprehensive preventive diagnostic of

substation equipment, excellent security, and disaster prevention functions in order to protect

customer assets from intrusion and the risk of disaster at all times. With its functional modulization

configuration of the system, the HiSAS delivers easy system design and scalability. In addition, it

guarantees reliability based on various application experiences and the redundant system

configuration. A convenient environment and automated operation support allows the customer to

operate the system efficiently with very little effort.

Hyosung offers various digital meters and relays, each tailored to fit our customers’ specific purposes and necessary functions such as power system protection, control and instrumentation, and communication. The digital meters and relays are the core equipment for power systems. FACTSHyosung’s FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) solution supplies leading/lagging reactive

power to transmission lines in order to maximize voltage stability and transmission efficiency. The

FACTS uses a large capacity inverter technology and controls the fast/precision of the electrical

grid. FACTS increases the grid’s safety and transmission capacity while reducing transmission cost.

It is also effective in stabilizing the voltage variations in the grid due to the growing use of renewable

energy sources such as wind turbines and dirty loads in furnace. Recently interest in FACTS as an

important component of the future smart grid has increased.

Power Quality SolutionThe Power Quality Solution prevents and minimizes the loss of power quality. It performs various

functions such as the power supply solution, harmonics solution, voltage solution, and power

quality monitoring. With the proliferation of sensitive and precise equipment, which is sensitive to

power quality disturbances in applications such as computers, automation, telecommunication,

Condition MonitoringHyosung’s facility diagnostic system is a solution that maximizes the lifetime of the facility as well as

preventing power facility accidents before they occur. Hyosung’s High Voltage GIS PD monitoring

system is the optimum solution that prevents power facility accidents in advance and maintains the

Research & DevelopmentHyosung Power & Industrial Systems Research Institute is strengthening

Korea’s competitive edge through its advanced technology in the domestic

heavy electric equipment field, and the fruits of its core technologies, i.e.,

345kV transformer for nuclear power plants and 800kV 2 pole GIS (Gas

Insulated Switchgear), won the Jang Yeongsil Grand Prize and Energy

Grand Prize respectively, while its 100MVA STATCOM won an excellence

award at the Korea Technology Grand Prize. In addition, the institute is

focusing on the automation of power systems, such as IEC61850-based SA

System and large FACTS, and research into the convergence of information

technology. The institute developed Korea’s first 80MVA UPFC based on

individual technical capabilities, as well as the 100MVA STATCOM, which is

currently being tested for market release. To strengthen the global

competitive edge of the existing heavy electric equipment, Hyosung is

conducting research into diverse solutions such as facility diagnosis, trouble

analysis, remote preventive diagnosis, diagnosis sensor, and facility life

assessment, and is also conducting research to secure a competitive edge

for its existing products, through enhancing design reliability by establishing

a reliability assessment center, advancing test processes, developing test

and assessment technology, and supporting certification tests.

Hyosung is growing to become a world-leading research institute based on

its differentiated technical capabilities in the smart grid and new recyclable

energy fields, which are drawing attention as next generation businesses, as

well as in the field of heavy electric equipment. Specifically, the company’s

green businesses, such as EV Motor, photovoltaic PCS, wind power PCS,

and fuel cell, including the smart grid, have been continuously and actively

reviewed and studied. With regard to the smart grid, Hyosung is currently

joining three areas of Jeju test projects (Smart Place, Smart Transportation,

Smart Renewable), which are being promoted by the government, and is

making efforts to secure base technology and products for the charging

infrastructure business, such as by developing its EV Charger. In the areas of

photovoltaic and wind power PCS, Hyosung is focused on reliability

Ultra-high-voltage Transformer Testing FacilityIt is a digital testing facility with capacity of 3,600kV that can test high-voltage, large-capacity

transformers. Main equipment include a tester for impulse withstand voltage that measures status

of insulation, a tester for power frequency withstand voltage, and a state-of-the-art precision system

to measure voltage loss.

Ultra-high-voltage Breaker Testing Facility■ Voltage Withstand Tester of Insulation for Breakers (600kV, 750kV and 1,000kV)The facility determines the status of insulation with a partial discharge (PD) test and a voltage

withstand test for insulation materials used in breakers.

■ Impact TesterThe facility can test impacts ranging between 200kV and 2,000kV to determine the level of safety of

GIS products against lightening and high voltage.

■ Voltage Withstand TesterThe facility verifies insulating strength of a breaker (400~1,200kV) and has two types: fixed type for

a factory and portable type that can conduct an on-site test.

Insulating strength can be tested at a factory and upon completing installation on site.

Clean RoomParticles destroy the insulation strength of a breaker while assembling the components, and

therefore the assembly takes place in a Clean Room with high-tech facility. The Clean Room is

managed in accordance with the supreme standard of leading breaker companies and the Clean

Room class at Hyosung is maintained at the identical level to that of advanced countries.

Hyosung has specialized production facilities including mold factory that produces various molds in annual amount of 20,000t, a cannery that produces structures under thorough inspection from surface treatment to coating, and Clean Room with perfect dust proof facility. It also has an ultra-high-pressure laboratory equipped with a device to generate maximum voltage of 3.6 million and a pressure test device of 1.2 million voltage to conduct performance test and commissioning for all the products.
