    WORLD COMMISSION ON ENVIORNMENT AND

    DEVELOPMENT (WCED)

The three main pillars (Triple bottom line Standards) of sustainabledevelopment include

    economic growth,

    environmental protection and

    social equality.

While many people agree that each of these three ideascontribute to the overall idea of sustainability, it is difficult to find evidence ofequal levels of initiatives for the three pillars in countries' policies worldwide .With the overwhelming number of countries that put economic growth on theforefront of sustainable development, it is evident that the other two pillars(Environment &social aspects) have been suffering, especially with the overallwell being of the environment in a dangerously unhealthy state.

The Brundtland Commission has put forth a conceptual framework thatmany nations agree with and want to try to make a difference with in theircountries, but it has been difficult to change these concepts aboutsustainability into concrete actions and programs.

Implementing sustainable development globally is still a challenge, butbecause of the Brundtland Commission's efforts, progress has been made. Afterreleasing their report, "Our Common Future," the Brundtland Commission called

for an international meeting to take place where more concrete initiates andgoals could be mapped out.

WCED was founded in order to bridge thesedifferences. WCED initiates action plans andprograms which ultimately make sure thatalong with economic development-Environment and social standards are notat the receiving end which triggers public

    CONCLUSION

It is the right of Global citizens to live and survive in a sound environment andthereby lead a satisfactory life but all is now in a dilemma, not only for the

present generations but also for their descendants. To achieve the goals ofSustainable doctrines, one must need a novel kind of development and mustlearn to live differently. We depend on the resources of the earth to meet ourbasic and vital needs. If they diminish or deteriorate, we risk our needs and

those of our upcoming generations. The global community have been failing tocare for the earth and there by- risks have become dangerously high.

Many global and National agencies advocate for sustainable practices and lend ahand in conceiving it.IN the globalised present day scenario, reality is that the so

called global players are doing some thing for the sake the doing and are almostgambling with the themes and doctrines of sustainable development.

It is desirable to keep in the backburner of mind that*** it is better to behanged than end up in a bad marriage
