A common point of access for Global Observing
Systems data sets, products, metadata, and services.
The GOSIC Portal can be accessed at:http:// GOSIC.ORG
The GOSIC:
• was established in 1997 by the GCOS Joint Data and Information Management Panel (JDIMP).
• was developed at the University of Delaware.
• was twice reviewed by independent panels (2001/2003).
• is operational at NCDC since 2007.
• does not hold data but rather links to world data center datasets where users can download data.
• users can find data and information about the GCOS, GOOS and GTOS and their subsystems without having to navigate the hundreds of complex and vastly different web sites of the myriad of organizations in these global observing systems.
• provides documentation on program elements, such as Observing Requirements, Planning Documents, Data Management Plans, and Publications.
• develops value added products, such as Data Matrices, Data Flow Diagrams and more.
• provides several search mechanisms for data and metadata.

• The GOSIC metadata records are held in the NASA Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) and can be queried through a GOSIC, GCOS, GTOS, GOOS, GAW or GOFC/GOLD portal to the GCMD.
• records are in DIF format.
On-going and Future Projects
• In the next year the GOSIC Portal will be converted to a CMS/Drupal platform. The CMS conversion will allow some of the high end GOSIC users to update information on the GOSIC portal directly.
• The GOSIC portal will be integrated with the NOAA National Climate Services Portal (NCSP) (http://climate.gov). This should be completed in the next 2 years depending on funding.
• The GOSIC metadata will soon be available in a Web Accessible Folder (WAF). This will facilitate upload of the GOSIC metadata into the NCDC GeoPortal.
