How much money counts? Christmas is here in 4 weeks, and many of us

are thinking of what to buy to our loved ones as presents, how to pamper them with good food, and how to decorate the house to get into the “right” Christmas mood. But it’s also time when many of us have finally chance to think. Sometimes it might be even scary to be left alone with your thoughts, instead of checking out your

Congratulations, you are holding the very first Passion Paper in your hands - happy to have you with us!

Passion Paper is an e-magazine for everyone interested in being charge of your own life in the middle of information overflow, and do more things that you truly enjoy. Whether it’s a complete change of career, or just fixing more time to concentrate on your beloved hobby, for example. The most important thing is, that you don’t spend too much time on doing something only because someone at the office, magazine or TV says so, but concentrate more on things that are meaningful to

you instead.

And why is this important? When you execute meaningful things in your life, it’s not only you feeling more happy, but also everyone around you. We all know how it’s like to be with an energetic, joyful person. And how it’s like to be around someone who’s not. Which one would you rather choose?

Therefore, we believe it’s both your right and responsibility to concentrate more on things that you enjoy, so lets begin with Passion!

How much money counts?

Christmas is here in 4 weeks, and many of us are thinking of what to buy to our loved ones as presents, how to pamper them with good food, and how to decorate the house to get into the “right” Christmas mood. But it’s also time when many of us have finally chance to think and put our values in the order again. Sometimes it might be even scary to be “left alone” with your thoughts, instead of checking out your calendar and emails every once in a while and figuring out where you should be in the very next second. Still, Christmas is one of the best times when you can actually listen to yourself and think: what is it that really counts?

There has been many articles going viral in social media about what people regret on their deathbeds, and quite surprisingly… the results are not that surprising! One of these lists was published on Lifehack* in October 2013 with 20 different things listed. And, believe it or not, none of these included money in any form.

So what people usually regret? On the top of the list there are many referrals to “not being more ME” - not following my passion, caring too much what others think, not standing up for myself, not trusting my gut, and not taking enough risks. Family related issues came also up quite a few times, e.g. spending more time with the family, and letting the children grow up to be what they want.

So, if things that are related to “not being more ME” were the ones people usually most regret, it might lead into one interesting question – do we KNOW what ME means? Do we know what we really want? It’s not that unusual that we don’t, when we think, for instance, how many different messages from various sources we get during the day. Did you know, that within each 60 seconds, there are 695 000 Facebook status updates made, over 1500 new blog posts posted, and 168 million emails sent*? No wonder we sometimes don’t know what are the right things for us, and what are our true values, when we need to get along with this information overflow we receive each day!

Issue 1 December 2013

But how to fix this? As referred in the beginning, the core of all doing, and what mostly leads our actions, are our values. Sometimes these values might be shaken and stirred, and no matter what they say, values also do change over time. Sometimes you also might get stuck with your old values, and start struggling against yourself. So it’s good to have a checkpoint for your values every now and then: what is important in this very moment for you, and what is not? Maybe, some years ago, it was the work and gaining more income that was driving you. Now you might already have reached a certain income-level, and you start valuing other things. Or maybe this is the exact time for you, to put more effort on career, but it’s also good to understand why so? What then, what happens when you’ve reached your goals there?

So, getting back to Christmas. Let’s not be afraid of these thoughts that will cross our minds, but embrace them instead. Lets just listen to them to see what they tell us, and trust on our gut which of those we should follow. This could be the best present you could ever give to yourself, and to those around you.
