Alloys AFE Cronite produces a range
of alloys specific to this industry: • 28Cr and 25Cr/12Ni type alloys
for good wear resistance againstpulverised coal fuels.
• 52Ni / 18Cr for high strength,high temperatures.
• 50Ni / 48Cr / Nb (Type 657) toresist fuel ash corrosion from useof high sulphur and vanadiumpentoxide containing fuels.
Although this market is mature, there is a new demand for advanced burner technology to reduce pollution, in particular the nitrous oxides (Nox) and CO2 in the exhaust gases. These new burner systems are being installed in both existing (retrofit) and new plants, and AFE Cronite is at the forefront of low emission burner developments.

Alloys • For SPF and hot forming titanium
at temperature between 700°Cand 950°C. 25Cr / 20Ni (HR6),52Ni / 18CR (HR4), 22Cr / 4Ni /9Mn (HR13). HR4 is a proprietaryalloy found to give the best allround performance of strength,durability, hardness, machinabilityand repairability.
• For forming of carbon composites,an alloy was required withminimum coefficient of thermalexpansion between roomtemperature and about 250°C.For this application a range ofaustenitic nickel iron cast alloyshas been developed:HR21 - 32Ni / Fe / CoHR21A - 36Ni / FeTools are also produced incarbon composite using our ownspecialised machining facility.
• For hot press plattens and otherstressed parts in the press we offer several nickel chromealloys that give excellent servicelife and performance.25Cr / 20Ni (HR6)36Ni / 26Cr / 5W / 15Co (HR36A)35Ni / 25Cr (HR33)37Ni / 18Cr / Nb (HR32)

AFE Cronite works closely with theindustry and its subcontract toolsuppliers to design strong, thermallyefficient tools for all forming processes.
Related parts such as plattens, forthe hot presses are also
supplied.
”
AFE Cronite’s involvement with theaircraft industry started over 30 yearsago with the development of castforming tools for super plastic forming(SPF) and hot creepforming of titanium. With the recentradical change in aircraftmanufacturingtechniques and the introduction ofcarbon compositeparts to replace aluminium, another type of tool is requiredto form these composite structures.
