Global Citizens for Global CausesCorporate Social Responsibility Annual Report 2017
“Having lost their homes, their work, and sometimes their families — they
don’t give up — they find a way to start again. Striving to belong, and to
contribute, they reach out to their new neighbors, building connections, and
creating new opportunities. Given the right environment, our experience is
that refugees bring solutions, not problems.”
Filippo Grandi
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
“We did not choose our place of birth or citizenship.
Privileged by accident of birth, we want to help others who
are less fortunate.”
Dr. Christian H. Kälin
Group Chairman and CEO, Henley & Partners
Our vision is for all people to live in dignity and security in their country
of birth or country of choice.
At Henley & Partners, our social responsibility is
expressed through the ethics and integrity of our
business practice, actively engaged staff, and a long
tradition of discreet and generous philanthropy.
We are proud of the many worthy causes we have
supported over the years, including social, education,
and humanitarian projects.
For a More Just and Tolerant Society
Our firm serves clients who enjoy the privilege of
choosing where they want to reside in the world and
even which citizenship to hold. This is why we have
committed ourselves to provide support to those who
do not have such choices, in particular those who are
forced to flee their homes and restart their lives in
another country. Today, the support of refugees is the
main focus of Henley & Partners’ social investment and
our contribution to a more just global society.
In 2017, as part of ongoing efforts to create
opportunities for the development and empowerment
of young people in the Caribbean, Henley & Partners
created the Henley & Partners Hero Scholarship in
partnership with Saint Mary’s University in Halifax,
Canada and the Halo Foundation in Antigua.
The scholarships seek to identify underprivileged
students in their final year of secondary school
and those within tertiary institutions who deserve
recognition, not only for their academic merits, but
also for their remarkable acts of bravery and kindness.
Education Without Borders — The Hero Scholarships
Covering full tuition fees, the four-year scholarships
support career development and nation building,
empowering talented, caring and committed young
people to become drivers of their own future.
In 2017, three scholarships have been granted and we
aim to expand this successful model to other countries
and regions where the firm operates.

Honoring Global Contributions — The Global Citizen Award®
The annual Global Citizen Award® is granted to an
inspirational global citizen who has worked towards
significantly improving the global community, and
whose action or thinking has contributed to a more
just, peaceful, and tolerant world.
In 2016, the USD 50,000 award honored South
African physician Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of
the Gift of the Givers Foundation, which has achieved
a positive impact on the lives of the most vulnerable
groups in South African society. The organization
has distinguished itself by its commitment to drive
innovation, through which it designed and developed
the world’s first and only containerized hospital and
the largest African open-source computer lab.
At the onset of the refugee crisis in Syria,
Dr. Sooliman’s response became international and
the Gift of the Givers Foundation engaged in the
construction of hospitals in Syria and the creation of
medical programs to upgrade and transfer skills to
doctors, nurses and other medical personnel.
The 2017 Global Citizen Award® is presented in
November 2017 at the Henley & Partners and UNHCR
Annual Gala in Hong Kong.

Since 2014, Henley & Partners has been engaged with
the world’s leading humanitarian agency, the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Our support of UNHCR has been primarily focused
on funding refugee registration and identification as
the starting point for all humanitarian assistance.
UNHCR registration ensures that the identity of
those seeking sanctuary from war and persecution is
properly recorded and verified. It is the first and most
critical step towards ensuring refugee assistance,
access to basic services, and protection.
Supporting Refugees — The UNHCR Partnership
Henley & Partners has already contributed over
USD 1.5 million to UNHCR to assist with the
registration and documentation of more than 50,000
people around the world.
Each year, we honor our partnership with UNHCR
with an Annual Gala dinner, inviting clients and
partners to join us in support of displaced people. In
2017, this takes place in Hong Kong in November.
We intend for our philanthropic impact to reach
further than the growth, innovation, and pioneering
success of our firm.
We want to contribute not just from within
Henley & Partners, but also to leverage our wider
network of successful and talented entrepreneurs,
investors, business leaders, international celebrities,
and the wealthy and generous families whom we
have the privilege to serve every day.
A Philanthropic Platform — The Andan Foundation
From 2017, Henley & Partners’ commitment for
the future is through the establishment of the
Andan Foundation, which will gather philanthropic
contributions from clients and partners, as well as
building a powerful community of philanthropists,
creative thinkers, solution-driven researchers and
thought leaders with the ability to make a significant
and long-term difference to some of the world’s most
important humanitarian challenges.
We envisage a world that allows all people to live
in dignity and security in their country of birth or
country of choice. A world where states, international
organizations, social and business communities work
together to empower families forced to leave their
homes, and their hosting communities, to build a new,
mutually beneficial way of living.
As the leading global residence and citizenship
advisory firm, we are committed to playing our part
To Live in Dignity and Security
to raise awareness, mobilize support, and gather
resources for innovative solutions. In 2017, Henley &
Partners also paid over USD 100,000 to support relief
and recovery on Barbuda following Hurricane Irma.
Together with our staff, our clients and our partners,
we are making a difference.
