A Note From Mrs F

Happy May

We have wrapped up state testing and are hurtling towards the last day of school at

what seems to be an incredibly high speed some days May brings with it so many

celebrations and events and I wanted to take a moment to challenge you to reflect

before we become enmeshed the school years busiest season

Please think back to where both you and your student started the year What have

you learned about yourself as a Learning Coach What do you need to successfully

support your student Is there something you need more training in or

communication about What have you learned about your student Were there new

things you discovered about how they learn best their passions and interests or what

supports they need to succeed I encourage you to think about how you want to start

next year The same Differently What can you change or keep the same to ensure

new or continuing success The best teachers reflect after every lesson and adjust

what they do to better meet student needs The exciting thing is that as a Learning

Coach you can reflect and adjust what you are doing on such a micro-level that you

can come very close to giving your students exactly what they need at home to be

successful And that will translate to success on-campus too

As we enter May Im doing the same thing I have asked you to do ndash reflect As I

look back on this year Ive had the opportunity to partner with parents and staff from

all grade levels and work toward making student support even stronger at PGA I

appreciate all Ive learned from each of you and look forward to next year In 2017-

18 I will take the lessons Ive learned around communication flexibility and most

importantly visionary leadership and move forward with the goal of achieving

PGAs vision

Pioneer parents students and staff will partner together to make PGA a place

where students achieve at their highest level in a safe and respectful community that

values innovation integrity and positivity

PAGE 3 MAY 2017 Global Academy Newsletter

That has been our focus as we moved forward through changes this year However

look for us to have even more focus on it and each specific element of it as we move

forward into next year Thanks for your part in helping us make PGA a place that

moves closer to achieving that vision year after year

Have a wonderful May and a restful and relaxing Summer

Mrs F

PS I just want to update you on some late-breaking news regarding our elementary

staff next year With new enrollments through School of Choice our 4th and 5th grade

class is bursting at the seams Also we will have at least one extra room at PGA

next year So the 4th and 5th grade class will be split next year much as we did with

2nd and 3rd this year with the exception that they will have separate classroom

spaces Mrs Gilmore has planned to take a significant reduction in her position next

year with the addition of a new baby to her family (Look for news on that soon)

She will be supporting our new teachers with planning and training Mrs Petrino will

be our 4th grade teacher (no stranger to our elementary team) and Mrs Sharp who is

currently covering Mrs Gilmores maternity leave will be in 5th grade I am

confident that we will have a strong team in place and that student success and parent

partnership will continue to thrive even though staffing changes Stop by and

welcome these teachers to their new roles

Additionally we are planning to say good-bye to Mrs Bettis at the end of this school

year Mrs Bettis is planning to retire after 30 years in public education She has been

instrumental in developing a model for hybrid Special Education services here at

PGA and will be sorely missed We initially thought that Mrs Sharp (in 4th - 5th

grade) would be filling that role next year but have decided to have her remain a

member of the elementary team she is working with now So look for a new face in

our Special Education teacher role next year
