LeadershipA leader is someone who
influences the behaviors, opinions, or attitudes of others.
A group without a designated leader tend to choose one among themselves.
TYPES OF LEADERS1. Instrumental leader (task-
oriented leader)2. Expressive leader
(socioemotional leader)
Instrumental leader
Instrumental leaderAn instrumental leader is someone
who tries to keep the group moving toward its goal.
They try to keep members from being sidetracked, reminding them of what they need to accomplish.
Expressive leader
Expressive leaderThis person is not usually
recognized as a leader, but in essence, he or she actually is.
This person keeps the good mood in a group, offers sympathy, cracks jokes, etc.
* It is difficult for one person to be both kinds of leader because the characteristics contradict each other.
LEADERSHIP STYLES
There are three basic leadership styles:
1. Authoritarian leader2. Democratic leader3. Laissez- faire leader
Authoritarian leader
Authoritarian leaderAn authoritarian leader is someone
who leads by giving orders.This person assigned tasks and
sees to it that they are being implemented.
Democratic leader
Democratic leaderA democratic leader is someone
who leads by trying to reach a consensus.
This person suggests alternative approaches when a specific task is difficult to achieve.
Laissez-faire leader
Laissez-faire leaderA laissez-faire leader is someone
who leads by highly permissive.This person is very passive, giving
permission to people to do as they please.
