PASTOR RANDY CHRISSIS REPORT
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
“Glenwood Lutheran Church invites and welcomes all people to become Disciples of Christ by
learning and teaching God’s Word, worshiping and magnifying God’s presence, and serving our
neighbors, at home and throughout the world.”
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
This is our Mission Statement; our standard and objective. Each board, committee, ministry, or
program is held to this standard. Although the work is never completed, we give thanks to God
for the ability to work and to serve in this place. My thanks to all those who volunteer in the
many ways we need as we strive to meet our mission statement through -
Helping our community near and far: We continue our support through our Synod and ELCA
missions and missionaries, Do Days Quilting, the ministry of our Circles through Glenwood
Women of the ELCA, ELCA Disaster Relief, Pope County Food Shelf, Backpack Attack program
of the elementary school, Pope County Foods Resource Bank, Habitat for Humanity, ELCA
World Hunger, Lutheran World Relief projects, ELCA’s God’s Global Barnyard – 3 family farms,
Radio & online streaming broadcasts of our worship services, Worship in the Park, Lutheran
Campus Ministry – Morris, Luther Crest Bible Camp, Pope County Good Samaritan Fund, Some
Place Safe, Lutheran Social Services, Families in Need, Glenwood Retirement Village, pastoral
counseling, marriage preparation counseling, 5th step counseling, grief counseling, and bringing
God’s Word and Sacraments to local facilities such as The Ridgewood Villa, GRV and other
facilities as needed or as scheduled.
Christ centered worship: What lies at the heart of our worship is always the grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ. Church attendance has been steady, but somewhat seasonal. We miss our snow
birds and are always glad for their return. Our worship time is a unique delight when our
Sunday school or SonShine Choir leads us in special music and programs. Close to 600 people
attend our Sunday school Christmas programs! Christmas and Easter attendance is around
1000 for each season. Thanks to the presence of students and parents in our Zones and
Confirmation programs our Mid-week Advent and Lent worship service numbers have been very
strong. We are blessed with musicians, directors, choirs, decorators and individuals who give
thanks to the Lord for and with their talents. The good news of Jesus Christ always needs to be
at the heart and center of our worship, and we need to be in the heart and center of the Good
News.
Education and Bible study: Sunday school, Zones, and Confirmation classes are growing
each year. God blesses us with parents who are faithful to their children and to Christ. God
blesses us with leaders and helpers, a great Board of Education, and generous people making it
possible to buy Story Bibles and Lutheran Study Bibles for our children. Bible Study
opportunities consist of Sunday morning Bible study, Men’s weekly Wednesday morning Bible
Study, Women’s monthly Bible Study on first Thursday morning of each month, Sarah Circle
monthly Bible Study on first Thursday evening of each month, plus you are always welcome to
10 Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report
join me for confirmation classes during the school year each Wednesday evening beginning at
6:30pm Other Bible studies may arise during the year. I would like to start an adult confirmation
program for those who tell me that they appreciate it more as an adult than when they were
teenagers.
Administration: Administration is one of the ministries listed in the Bible. It is not a flashy
ministry, but important to the well-being of a congregation. We have in place, our Constitution,
employment policies as well as policies on weddings, funerals, and baptisms. As Senior Pastor I
have the responsibility to reduce areas of liability as much as possible. We will abide by the
good counsel of the insurance companies with the "Use of Facilities" agreements and "Hold
Harmless" agreements. However, the most important aspect of administration is the area of
keeping our children safe. Policies regarding practices to keep children safe have been in place
and used by me in hiring staff and working with Sunday school/confirmation programs. Our
Southwest Minnesota Synod and our Insurance Company counsel us to expand this safety with
background checks on all volunteers who deal directly with children in the course of ministry. It
will no longer be "business as usual" because it cannot be business as usual. The safety of our
children will continue as our primary ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Wise use of our Buildings: Ours is a well-used church facility. In addition to our Worship
services, programs, funerals, weddings, Bible studies, and Do Days Quilting, we are also home
to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Red Cross blood drives, Women’s AA meetings,
occasional Habitat for Humanity meetings, Sons of Norway, Fire Department Christmas party,
Waterama Queen’s brunch, 4-H gatherings, Musical tryouts and practice site, as well as
numerous fund raising breakfast/dinners, and salad luncheons. We also will open our
classrooms to the Minnewaska Area Schools in emergency situations.
Sunday School/Confirmation: Our Sunday school and Confirmation numbers are up again
this year. We are happy to provide Sunday school and Confirmation classes to students whose
parents are members and quite a few who are not members, but are looking for programs for
their children. We have been blessed with great people in a great program. We are happy to
welcome and teach any child who wants to be here. If this becomes their church home, great! If
not, we have been blessed by their presence and hope they feel blessed in return.
Staffing: Other than the Pastors, all of our staff is part-time. You might never know it by the
number of extra hours they work. Please be aware that they often donate their time to work on
Fridays, holidays, and legal days off to meet the requests made upon them. They have met
every challenge placed before them to provide ministry to the boards, committees, individuals,
funerals, weddings, community meetings, and other ministry/events. We have a staff meeting
every Wednesday morning where we consider the bulletin for worship and the Parish Caller. We
also coordinate the church calendar so that the many groups using our facilities have a good
meeting or fellowship experience. This staff meeting begins with devotions and prayers for all
those on our prayer list, private prayers to be shared only with the staff, and 10 families from
GLC from our directory. I ask that members of our staff be present for this meeting; Front office,

Thank you all for your faithfulness in sharing your talents so that others may experience a

privilege of being your senior pastor. I take this responsibility seriously. I truly enjoy coming to
work each day, and working with dedicated members, a wonderful staff, great musicians, and
creative church leaders. The ministry and mission of Glenwood Lutheran Church are vibrant and
growing. Thank you to each and every one of you for your partnership in the Gospel! May God
continue to find us faithfully taking up His cross and following Christ.
In Christ,
Rev. Randy Chrissis

PASTOR KRISTA LEE REPORT
“I came so that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” John 10:10b
Dear Friends in Christ:
2018-2019 has been another solid year of ministry at Glenwood Lutheran Church. To follow are some of
the things we want you to know:
WORSHIP
Advent and Christmas Seasons:
o Planning begins early autumn with discussions around themes, scripture texts, and hymn
choices.
o Bulletins and special Parish callers are created, reviewed and proof read.
o Advertisements placed to announce special choir presentations for the Adult choir,
Sonshine Choir and Sunday School students.
o Calendars are planned a year in advance to make sure we meet all the needs for the
celebration
Lent and Easter Seasons:
o Planning begins shortly after Christmas – some years earlier depending on when Ash
Wednesday falls in the calendar.
o We coordinate hymns and Scripture texts with chosen theme, materials are ordered to
enhance the season.
o Bulletins, advertisements, and other coordinating announcements are planned.
Pastors Text Study:
o Every week we spend 2-3 hours Tuesday morning to study the Scripture for the coming
week, proof read the bulletin and coordinate music with our organist, Diane Moeller.
Staff Meetings:
o GLC staff meets at 10:00am every Wednesday to go over the calendar for the next two
weeks.
o We plan for events, worship, and other activities happening in the church.
o We coordinate for staffing at events.
Chapel Holy Communion:
On Thanksgiving Eve Day, Ash Wednesday, and Maundy Thursday at 1:30pm we hold a
Holy Communion service for those who cannot attend evening worship services. This
service is open to the community.
First Holy Communion Classes:
We offer Holy Communion instruction to students and their parents who are in third
grade and older.
This instruction is held prior to the Easter and Christmas seasons so that the students may
celebrate their first Holy Communion during these holidays.
Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report 13
New Member Sundays:
Although people can join GLC anytime of the year, we orient and welcome new
members into our church community two times a year at the service they usually attend.
This gives us a chance to introduce them to the community as they are recognized.
This year we have received 11 families of 18 adults and 5 children into GLC
membership. Two families of four adults have joined as associate members.
Recognition Sundays:
Senior High School Graduating Class: Every spring we celebrate the graduating class
of senior high school students with a worship service. During the service we ask the
graduates to introduce themselves and tell us their plans. The congregation of GLC gives
them gifts and offers blessings.
New Member Sunday: We formally introduce new members into the community during
worship two times a year; in the spring and the fall.
Rally Sunday: A Lutheran tradition GLC continues each year on the second Sunday of
September. We gather at the city park for the last outdoor worship service of the year
and the church council serves a meal.
Bible Sunday: We make a promise at Baptism to support the baptized in making sure
they receive the Scriptures. On Rally Sunday each year, we give out Bibles to the first
and fifth graders during worship in the Park.
Youth-led worship: One Sunday a year we organize youth to lead our worship services.
Funerals/Funeral Planning:
GLC presided at 20 member funerals and 1 non-member funeral in which we were the
host site.
We provide comfort and care for families through pastoral ministry while planning the
funeral.
Ministry is also provided by the clusters in preparing and serving luncheons for those
who are grieving.
Ardis Stone, our cluster coordinator for the past 15 years has retired as of April 1, 2019.
Our gratitude to her for her faithful work in coordinating workers for funeral luncheons.
Baptisms:
We welcomed 18 new members through baptism in 2019-2019. We spend up to an hour
with each family answering questions and filling out paperwork when the family
schedules the baptism.
We also provide this ministry to people who do not have a church home but want their
children baptized.
LEARNING
Bible Studies:
Circle Bible studies are led each month on-site at GLC and in homes of members. The
topics are varied each year.
An eight week Bible study on Gerhard Forde’s “Where God Meets Man” was held
on Tuesday evenings from September 11- October 30, 2018. This Bible study was led by
Pastor Randy Chrissis.
Men’s Bible Study is held every Wednesday morning from 8:00-9:00am.
14 Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report
Sunday School:
An average of 120 students participate in our Sunday School program. PreK –K and 1-4.
Confirmation Classes, grades 8 &9:
An average of 50 students meet every other 6:30pm on Wednesday during the school
year.
Pr. Randy teaches students on the catechism and Bible.
Zones 567
An average of 80 students make up the Zones 567.
Zone 6& 7 meets every other Wednesday during the school year.
Zone 5 meets every scheduled Sunday
Twice a year, on a Wednesday evening, Luther Crest leads the large group of
Zone 567 for a youth activity.
GLC Book Club:
A faithful group of book lovers meet the second Tuesday of every month at 9:00am in the
library to discuss the current book on our list.
We vote on the next year’s list in April or May.
The list for the following year is published in the Weekly Parish Caller.
All are welcome to join this group.
CARING
Pastoral Conversations:
Pastor Randy and I average 10 hours per week in confidential conversation with members
and non-members seeking various resources in the community; referrals to mental health
providers and responding to spiritual needs of our community.
We average 2-3 hours per week in ministry planning for Glenwood Lutheran Church with
various Boards and staff members.
Visitation Ministry:
We visit Ridgewood Villa the third Tuesday of every month.
Pastor Randy and I make an average of 30 unscheduled hospital visits to health care
facilities in this area, in St. Cloud and Minneapolis/St. Paul area.
We work with the Pope County Hospice and nursing homes to provide spiritual care to
members and their families at end of life.
Prayer Ministry:
On a weekly basis, prior to our Monday staff meetings, GLC staff prays for people who
have asked for prayers, those who are on our public prayer list, and ten families of GLC.
Radio Broadcast Ministry:
Our 8:30am Sunday worship service is broadcast through the local radio station, KMGK
107.1FM and Charter Channel 187. The broadcast is an important outreach ministry to
the community. We reach homebound members as well as visitors to the area who are
not able to worship in the physical building. The community – both GLC members and
others – frequently tell us how grateful they are for this important ministry.
Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report 15
Special services such as Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving Eve and Lenten and Advent
worship are also broadcast with the generous sponsorship of members. Wednesday
evening worship services during Lent and Advent are broadcast live.
Thank you to all who have sponsored a radio broadcast in 2018-2019.
GLC Meals Ministry:
Gathering together for a meal is a way to build community. The GLC community gathers
for:
Lenten Soup Suppers: Beginning with Ash Wednesday, soup suppers are served for the
greater church community. Each Wednesday during Lent, students in grades 5-12 serve
the Lenten soup suppers under the supervision of the Youth Board and parents.
Easter Continental breakfast: sponsored by the Youth Board, and served by the youth
and parents of our congregation.
Steak by the Lake: In early June after the Park Worship service, the Youth Board
sponsors and serves a steak luncheon with the youth of the congregation. It is a
fundraiser for youth activities
Stewardship breakfast: The Board of Stewardship prepares and serves a breakfast to
thank members for prayerfully considering their ability to pledge offering for the year.
REACHING OUT
Outreach Ministry:
We provide care to visitors to the area who may be experiencing a health crisis at Glacial
Ridge hospital and request spiritual care through the nursing staff at the hospital.
We work with Pope County Hospice for those who request a Lutheran pastor for end of
life care.
We are also available to Hoplin Hitchcock Funeral Home to officiate at the funerals of
people who do not have a church home.
Glenwood Lutheran Church sponsors radio broadcasts for our weekly worship services,
seasonal mid-week services as well as holiday worship services. We hear over and over
again how nice it is for people to be able to hear the worship services if they are not able
to be physically present at Glenwood Lutheran Church. For example; Sundays when
there is a snowstorm and no one can make it to the church!
Bus Transportation:
We coordinate with Cheryl Kleven and Glenwood Retirement Village to provide
transportation to the church for the 11:00am service on the first Sunday of the month.
Although this service is not accessed as much as we would like, it gives members who
are not able to drive on their own transportation to worship.
When available, Cheryl graciously offers transportation on the GRV bus for homebound
or facility bound members to Advent suppers, Lenten soup suppers, Thanksgiving Eve
worship, Good Friday worship.
When special events are scheduled, we are able to access this transportation through
Cheryl. Thank you, Cheryl, for making this wonderful ministry possible.
The GRV transport makes it possible for folks who cannot access the church due to lack
of transportation to participate in these events.
16 Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report
Glacial Ridge Conference Pastors Meeting:
This monthly meeting of pastors is scheduled for months of September through May at
various churches in the conference.
Every other year we host the conference pastor’s meeting here at GLC.
We greet pastors from the conference for fellowship, worship and a meeting.
Worship in the Park:
This important ministry draws people of many Christian traditions in the community for
Sunday morning worship outside at the city park.
We serve many visitors who come to the area.
Once a summer we also provide a meal with the Steak by the Lake event sponsored by
the youth.
It’s a great way to evangelize within the community.
Weekly/Quarterly Parish Caller:
We publish a quarterly newsletter to advise members of important events occurring in the
next three months. This newsletter is distributed through the mail.
We also publish an Education Parish Caller in August to inform parents of registration for
Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
We publish a weekly newsletter with the bulletin to communicate with the congregation
the many events planned for the current week.
GLC as a Host Site:
Our church building is the site for community organizations who would otherwise not
have a place to meet for their functions. Groups such as the Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts,
Pope County food distribution, Eastern Star, Alcoholics Anonymous(women), Red Cross
blood drive, Lutheran Social Services, Habitat for Humanity, Waterama, Minnewaska
public schools (emergency needs), and Synodical events.
We are often asked to be the site for fundraising benefits and schedule them if the space
is available.
This list highlights the active ministry within Glenwood Lutheran Church. Please let us know how you
would like to be involved in the ministry of Jesus Christ.

Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report 17
BRAD VOLD, COUNCIL PRESIDENT REPORT
Dear Members of Glenwood Lutheran Church,
It is hard to believe that another year has passed. As we close the 2018-19 church year, I want
to Thank You for the opportunity to serve the congregation as Council President. This past year
has provided me the opportunity to experience the inner workings of our church. It has given
me a great appreciation for the talent and commitment of Pastor Randy, Pastor Krista, Church
Staff and the many volunteers of Glenwood Lutheran.
This past year was a transition year following over four years of planning, fund raising and
completion of our church renovation. The renovation not only enhanced the function and
beauty of our church but provided much needed building maintenance. Thanks to all the
volunteers and committee members that made this renovation a success. The physical part of
the renovation is complete, but the ongoing financial responsibility for a project of this
magnitude is ongoing. The financial generosity of our congregation must continue to grow to
meet the financial commitment of the renovation and the financial needs of a growing
congregation.
Last year Glenwood Lutheran made a commitment to participate in a program to help us
navigate the changing needs of our church community. The program, “Cultivating Generous
Congregations” is an interactive experience that changes the way our congregation approaches
giving and generosity.
But first what is generosity? According to the Lake Institute on Faith and Giving, “Generosity is
the virtue of giving good things freely and abundantly. It is a learned character trait that
involves attitude and action entailing both the inclination and actual practice of giving liberally.
It is not a haphazard behavior but a basic orientation to life. What generosity gives can vary:
money, time, attention, aid, encouragement and more but it always intends to enhance the true
well-being of the receiver. Like all virtues, generosity is the people’s genuine enlightened self-
interest to learn and practice.”
Measuring generosity can be done several ways. It can be through financial giving,
volunteering, relational generosity (social networks, being engaging with other people),
neighborly generosity (expressions of care, hospitality, assistance with chores), and self-
evaluation (do you see yourself as generous?).
We need to ask the following question - What kind of congregation do we want to be? Pay-the-
bills congregation who frame religious giving in mostly unspiritual terms as necessary to keep
the doors open and meet the budget. Characteristics of Pay-the-bills congregation are: money
is scarce, must pay bills in order to survive, focus is internal and insular, and you must do your
fair share. OR Share-the-vision congregation who tend to connect and integrate money and
spirituality. Characteristics of Share-the-vision are: not rich, but have enough, dare to dream
and grow the faith, focus is external and global, and tend to partner and grow in faith.
Glenwood Lutheran has an opportunity to become a Share-the-vision congregation. We are
blessed with being a multigeneration congregation. The opportunity is how to meet the needs
18 Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report
of each generation. Each generation has its own interpretation of the value of time, talent and
treasure.
Did you know that 10% of our church households make up 60% of our church financial giving
and 70% of our church households make up 15% of our financial giving? I understand the
challenge of financially raising a family so giving of time and talents are part of my giving, but if
each family gave a small treasure and/or increased their treasure by only a small percentage it
would move us closer to being a Share-the-vision congregation.
The objective of “Cultivating Generous Congregations” is to create a program that promotes
storytelling to promote generous giving of time, talents and financial support. What are the
characteristics of good story telling? Good story telling is at the heart of good communication.
A story is only as good as the storyteller. It must have an audience, put the aspirations of the
audience at the heart to of the message, paint an inspiring picture, make you feel part of
something bigger than yourself, and words coupled with the right images help make a story
invincible. I was on the trustee board when the decision was made to put the large tv monitors
in the sanctuary. At the time I did not fully understand the potential of using images and text to
share countless stories of the impacts that Glenwood Lutheran ministry has within our
congregation, but also in our community and outside our borders. Our congregation
demonstrates time and again the level of generosity within our members. This not only
includes giving of treasure, but giving of time and talent.
A narrative budget is being worked on to provide a better understanding of the financial needs
of our congregation. A narrative budget tells the story of how our church practices good
stewardship of the gifts entrusted to it. It provides a vision of where the church hopes to be in
the coming budget cycle. It also gives a vision of ministry rather than just a spreadsheet of line
items. It reflects how the congregation spends its time, talent, and treasure rather than paying
the bills. The narrative budget will be broken down into four main categories: Worshipping,
Learning, Caring, and Reaching out. Giving members a better understanding of the mission of
Glenwood Lutheran will provide the opportunity for more members to share their time, talent,
and treasure.
In closing I would like to thank the Council, boards, Pastors and Staff for their time and
commitment, but also for their patience and flexibility. We had many adventures this year
from board orientation, changing our meeting times, and the first annual “Wine and Meet.” I
would like to thank the Staff for graciously allowing me to participate in staff meetings to better
understand the day to day function of our church. It was truly a humbling experience. As I
expressed in the beginning, I have a great appreciation for talent and commitment of Pastor
Randy, Pastor Krista, Church Staff and the countless volunteers of Glenwood Lutheran Church
who truly give of their time and talents.
God Bless,
Brad Vold, Congregational Council President

The Board of Education is to work with the pastors to provide education programs for the entire
congregation. This ranges from providing Sunday school for preschool through grade 4; Zone 5, 6, and
7; confirmation; and adult Bible studies.
Highlights from the year include the following:
Lori Zenk has taken the helm as Coordinator! She had some big shoes to fill, but the transition to
her leadership has been seamless and we have had a great year of Sunday School and learning
opportunities.
A special thanks to Charity Vold with the pre-k and kindergarten classes and music, and Jess
Listerud with the music program. They both go above and beyond!
We worked with a somewhat changed format with the addition of more Family Sunday School
sessions. These have been a big hit, with positive feedback from parents and kids. We would
like to continue to invite congregation members who may not have kids to join in the fun!
We continue to use the ‘Sign up’ app for volunteering to teach Sunday school. This system does
work well, but Lori continues to send out frequent email reminders when not all the spots are
filled. Similar to past years, Sunday School attendance and volunteer helpers are much higher in
the fall months, with a noted drop after the Christmas holiday.
Summer Day Camp with Luther Crest Counselors continues to be a very popular event.
Counselors are on sight to lead activities, lessons, singing, and FUN! This event wouldn’t be
possible without all the help from adult helpers and Junior Counselors from our congregation.
Dates for the 2019 Day Camp will be Aug 12 – 15 with Counselors from Luther Crest joining
Sunday Worship in the park to kick off the week.
Bake Sale proceeds are used to offset the cost of this camp. We host one in December and one in
April. This able we were able to apply $1,270 towards this cost! We had an increase in volunteer
bakers this year so a big thanks for all those who baked to make this a success!
Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report 23
We continue to use the Sunday School curriculum “SPARK.” The Sunday school enrollment
continues to be in the 150 range. Volunteers continue to be a vital piece of the Sunday school
program and we appreciate everyone who has helped out. To Parents-please prayerfully consider
helping out with the Sunday school children. 4
During Rally Sunday in September, storybook “SPARK” Bibles were presented to all 1st graders
and Lutheran Study Bibles were given to the 5th graders to use in their Zone’s program.
Zones 567 schedule this year included 5th-7
th grades on a rotating weekly schedule. This year, 5
th
graders met with Pastor Krista on Sunday mornings. 6th and 7
th graders continued with a
Wednesday afternoon rotation. Pastor Randy and Pastor Krista for doing a wonderful job with
our youth.
The Christmas program tradition continues to be a highlight for our kids. Lori Zenk, Jess
Listerud, Charity Vold, along with all other volunteers did a great job with this year’s program.
The Board of Ed, provided treat bags for all the students and this year the kid’s decorated each
other’s gift bags, they were very sweet.
Sara Stadtherr continues to direct the Sonshine Choir. They rehearse Wednesdays after school,
and perform several times throughout the year. Thanks to GRV for use of their Van and to the
driver as well as Palmer Bus for getting our kids to practice! Thanks to Sara for all the time and
love you put into this program. We love it when your group sings for us!
The Board of Education members continue to maintain child activity bags for use in the
Sanctuary during services.
2 new members have agreed to start their 3 year terms in June when Stephanie and Lindsay are
done. I have agreed to stay on for 3 more year.
Looking forward, we will work with Pastor Randy and Pastor Krista on developing policies and
procedures related to background checks for volunteers as well as bullying policies.
We would like to thank the Board of Education members, Pastors, volunteer teachers, and especially
parents for allowing us to enjoy watching your children grow and learn every Sunday. If there are any
questions or concerns, please let a Board of Education member know.
Respectfully submitted,

Splash Annual Report (Reporting for the 12 month period May 1, 2018 –April 30, 2019)
The Splash! program is an easy, affordable way to connect with young families in our congregation. (It is similar to the “Nursery Roll” of old, and would replace such a program.) The program is sponsored by the Board of Education, and is administered by church office staff. Parents are asked at the Baptism of a child if they wish to participate. “Splash! Packs” are purchased for each enrolled child annually at a cost of $13. First class postage for the year is approximately $8, for an annual cost per child of $21. The program has been well received by families with their first child. I have spoken with several families that have more than one kid and they do not find it as helpful. I have brought this to the Board of Education’s attention and we will be exploring other ways to reach families with children between the ages of 0-3.
Each Splash! Pack contains 12 monthly newsletters, “Parent Pages,” and a music CD that is mailed to parents of children between birth and 36 months. “Parent Pages” are monthly newsletters that support families. This monthly contact helps us make frequent, faith-filled connections with young children and their families.
Each issue of Parent Pages helps families incorporate faith formation into the events of daily life. Families love the lively, engaging ways to enjoy Bible stories, prayer, worship, and devotion times with their young children. Because none of the activities require elaborate preparations or materials, families can try out ideas from the Parent Pages during everyday activities.
Splash! Program Statistics
We currently have 43 children enrolled in the program. This is 3 less than last year. In the past
12 months we’ve baptized 18 individuals , down from 20 last year (a loss of 2)
Of those we’ve added 15 to our Splash! Program (1 chose not to participate and 2 were too
old to participate), up from 14 last year (a gain of 1)
In the past 12 months we’ve graduated 17 children (turned 3years old), up from 14 last year (a gain of 3)
Current 1-year olds (1-12 months) enrolled = 7 (-20)
Current 2-year olds (13-24 months) enrolled = 20 (+4)
Current 3 year olds (25-36 months) enrolled = 16 (+13)
Also:
A letter was developed by the Board of Ed to welcome the family to begin Sunday School, whether here or elsewhere. This is mailed to them on their third birthday with their final newsletter.
This year I will be trying to mail out birthday cards to children ages 0-3. We have birthday cards that have been donated that I will be using. A letter is also sent when a child begins a new year/packet, reminding them of the purpose of the mailings, and why they are unique, etc.
If someone wishes to “sponsor” a child from outside the congregation, we accept a donation of $50 (to cover materials and postage for 2.5 years).

Stewardship Board Annual Report
2018 Stewardsh ip Them e
Members: Jeanette Rykhus (Chair), Donna Bogie (Vice-Chair), Dorothy Jenum (Secretary), Ivy Peterson, Phillip Peterson, Laurie Fettig, RaeAnn Staples, Brad Vold (Council Representative)
It proved another fun-filled and active year for the Stewardship Board. The first week in May 2018 the Stewardship board delivered brochures and posters to the Chamber and Diane Moeller delivered posters to area resorts promoting our worship services and Summer Worship in the City Park. We are committed to providing outreach materials (brochures, takeaways, etc.) to the local Chamber for those new to the community and visitors over the summer months.
The 2018 Stewardship Theme was “You Were Made for more” centering the cross on the time, treasure, and talents we all have to bring spread the gospel and aid with the mission and ministry of our congregation.
We continued our “Faith and Fitness” initiative as well throughout this year. We determined that we would continue providing the small water bottles, from Ecowater Systems, during worship services and other special events throughout the year. We also provided water bottles for Yoga@GLC and encouraged them to continue providing this valuable Yoga class for community outdoors on Sunday mornings prior to worship in the City Park, and in the Church the remainder of the year on Sunday evenings.
We held our Third Annual Family Pedal, Push, & Walk Sunday, September 16, 2018, spearheaded by Dorothy Jenum, traversing the Bike Trail from Glenwood to Villard. Pastor Krista gave the bikers a blessing and sent them on their way after the early worship service. It was a free and open well attended event,
with a “Taco in a Bag” lunch back at Mount Lookout provided by the Stewardship Committee. Donna & Doug Bogie planned and served the lunch, assisted by the rest of the board. Mid-West equipment provided the “Gator”
and Ivy & Phil Peterson provided our water bottles and assistance along the trail. Jeanette Rykhus worked on promotion and signage. The board has been using Thrivent funds, a $250 Community Impact Card was used for this event to get the project off the ground and make a bigger impact.
Last year we introduced “Giving by Text” and “Giving by App” both part of Vanco’s Give+ online giving solutions for churches. This year we added “Giving by Swipe,” so we can take Credit/Debit Cards at any event, or people can come to the office and donate if they so choose any time the office is open.
26 Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report
We continue to use our brown wire tree located in the front lobby of the church. It is currently decorated with crosses provided by Family Sunday School participants. It currently has “Joseph and the coat of many colors” on the tree.
In January we held our annual “Sweater Sunday” this year with a “Grinch” theme, an egg-bake breakfast served after the first service, and time with a “potluck” Luncheon following the 11:00am worship service. The money raised from this meal’s free-will offering, $366.10, went to the General Fund.
The 2019 Stewardship Campaign is currently underway; Stewardship Month, April 28 to May 19, 2019. Our time was greatly affected by the timing of Easter this year, there were only two “temple talks” encouraging the pledging practice. Two “Pledge Sundays” and new ways of giving are hopefully going to result a good pledging return. Our annual Stewardship Breakfast was held the First Pledge Sunday, and we served Egg Bake, Assorted Muffins & Rolls from “Teresa’s Turn Bakery,” fresh fruit and beverages (orange juice, milk, coffee). People really enjoyed this menu, and we received lots of compliments. Freewill donations of $214 will go towards the general fund. Thrivent “Seed Money” ($250) was used for this and the Sweater Sunday event.
2019 Stewardsh ip Them e
In 2019 we are reimagining generosity using the theme “Living Generously in Christ,” in conjunction with the SWMN Synod-ELCA “Cultivating Generous Congregations” Initiative we are involved with.
Other Donations we have received this past year include:
Thrivent Total donations received through Action Team Applications: $500.00 (fiscal year), cash used for projects, see projects listed above
Total Amazon Smile donations received by Glenwood Lutheran Church: $174.03 (in 2018, deposited into general fund)

Purpose Statement: As a community of women, created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world The Glenwood Women of the ELCA meet the first Thursday of the month at 10am for Pastor-led Bible study. Our executive board meets one hour before the study. Sarah Circle meets in the evening for Bible study. Our nine clusters, which include all men and women of the congregation, are in charge of the seven weeks our congregation delivers Meals on Wheels. The monthly clusters serve Sunday morning coffee fellowship and an occasional congregational meal. A separate rotation of clusters serves lunches for funerals. Ardis Stone retired this year from being the caller who found cluster chairs for each month and each funeral. We appreciate her faithful volunteer service of at least 15 years. Ardis will be missed! WELCA packed Christmas shoe boxes for Marie Sandvik Mission. Sarah Circle and the morning group packed kits for LWR. Extra items were given to Pope County Families in Need. Do Days volunteers have been busy making quilts which are given to those in need locally, as well as in foreign countries. Maintenance continues at the cemetery and this year expenses outweighed the income. Due to the many donations received this past year, the cemetery continues to be a place of peace and comfort to all who have loved ones with our grounds.
This year, one of the concerns that will be looked at is the appearance of the brickwork and gates entering both the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery and the Glenwood City Cemetery. We are looking at making them look cohesive between both cemeteries. If you see one of the board members and have an opinion on the entrances to the cemetery, please share your concerns.
This past year, the cemetery board has been receiving reimbursement from Pope County Court Administration for damages at the cemetery from the time period that Cliff Ogdahl was Sexton. Other income was from the sale of one lot, memorials and gifts.
If you enjoy working outdoors, consider assisting Gary with the upkeep of our beautiful cemetery.

Margaret Gylsen Secretary/Treasurer

The committee met four times (June 10th and Oct 7th, 2018, Jan 6th, and April 7th, 2019)
over the past fiscal year. At each meeting investment fund interests and term limits were
reviewed. Grant requests from the past year and any new ones were reviewed at each meeting
and a significant portion of the interest from that quarter was distributed to some of the past
years’ request and a new one or two that fit the Endowment purpose. Treasurer’s annual
financial statement is on the following page.
At the January 6th meeting It was decided to create a non-voting Financial
Secretary/Treasurer position and Karen Bartels was asked to take on that responsivity. Karen
had held the treasurer position for the committee for the past 6 years and the committee was
not able to find a person at the Eagle Bank that was a GLC member and interested in taking on
the Treasurer’s job.
The purpose of the Fund as stated in its by-laws "the income from this Fund shall be
used exclusively for educational, charitable, and religious purposes within the activities of the
Lutheran Church and for such purposes as may be undertaken, approved or supported by
Glenwood Lutheran Church." The Endowment fund was established in 1985 by Glenwood
Lutheran Church to serve as a repository for assets received in which the principal amounts
would be maintained perpetually. The Fund is administered by a Board of five persons, all of
whom are voting members of Glenwood Lutheran Church.

Music & Worship Committee Annual Report
Music is food for the soul. “Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord.” Psalm 150:6.
The Music and Worship Committee thanks our volunteer singers, ringers, readers, pianists,
soloists, and instrumentalists as they continue to share their talents abundantly to glorify God for
worship, weddings, funerals and other celebrations. We also thank our sound system operators for the
great job they do to record worship services and assure that our broadcast ministry continues each week.
Our organists, Diane Moeller, Nicole Meyer, and Jess Listerud continue to enhance our worship by leading the
hymn singing and providing accompaniment for soloists and choirs at our weekly services, funerals and weddings.
We are thankful for their talents and dedication to making our services worshipful.
We thank the many faithful, AWESOME singers and accompanists with the Adult Choir who provide special
music three out of four Sundays (alternating early and late services) each month. In addition to regularly scheduled
worship services, they presented two cantatas: "The Glory of Christmas" in December and “The Seven Last Words of
Christ” on Good Friday. On Easter morning they blessed us with the Hallelujah Chorus. Gordy Moeller directs the
choir and new members are encouraged to join.
The SonShine Choir had another amazing year. What a glorious sound coming from them every Wednesday
afternoon. I encourage anyone to stop in and listen from the library. It will lift your Spirit and remind us all that there
is complete and total Hope in our future. These K-6 graders are committed to singing and believing in our Holy
Father. We close every Wednesday with a prayer, we had kids begging to start and lead the prayer every week!
Unscripted prayers from 6 year olds are full of discovery. We encourage them to use their Angel Voices at every
practice and they bring everyone Joy. The Choir sang monthly at various services. The Choir also sang at Christmas
time to the new Villa apartments. Tears were seen all around! The Choir is very grateful for our new addition of a
permanent bus driver! Steve Steffen saves the day. His dedication to our youth every Wednesday is wonderful. The
kids love his smile too. He immediately had great relationships with them and they feel safe in his care. Thank you
Steve! The Choir is ultimately in the great hands of accompanist Diane Moeller. She is the backbone that every
good Choir needs. We are all so very grateful to her for the time and talents she brings us. We encourage all K-6
graders to join us at any time. All are Welcome. In complete awe and gratitude—Sara Stadtherr.
The JuBELLate Ringers, our talented, awe-inspiring, adult handbell choir, has provided special music each
month from fall through spring plus holidays. Our rousing, hand-clapping final appearance this year was a Dixieland
Swing on What a Friend We Have in Jesus, complete with guest instrumentalists on clarinet, tuba, and drums. Judi
Morton directs the choirs and offers a class for beginning ringers called “Handbells 101” in mid August. This class
introduces people (male or female, young or old) to the art of handbell ringing and gives new ringers the basic skills
necessary to ring bells and become a part of an exciting musical team. Plan now to join. New members are
always welcome.
The Praise Band members are another dedicated group of people who offer their time and talents to inspire
connection to our Lord during worship. They musically lead worship each week except the first Sunday of the month.
They also lead worship at our Park Summer Services every Sunday beginning in June through Rally Sunday in
September. This is a huge commitment but the Lord continues to provide the people and energy needed to keep this
music ministry going! If you would like to be a part of this ministry contact Diane Moeller, who directs this group.
Come, let us sing a song, a song declaring we belong to Jesus!
The Music and Worship Committee is a committee of the Deacons. We welcome all communication and input
from our congregation to improve and grow our worship ministry in all seasons and for all God’s people.
Music and Worship Committee Members: Pastor Randy Chrissis, Pastor Krista Lee, Diane Moeller, Gordy
Moeller, Sara Stadtherr, and Judi Morton.

Lutheran Campus Ministry – Morris Annual Report
Greetings!
Hopefully you had the opportunity to read the Fall Newsletter and see photos of the exciting updates to the LCM-Morris house and staff. A quick recap: new gathering room furniture and all new kitchen appliances! These much-needed appliances and welcoming furniture cost about $6,000. LCM-Morris was able to make these updates because individuals and congregations have been faithful stewards and have given time, talents, and monetary donations. LCM-Morris uses your individual and congregational donations to keep the LCM-Morris House and Ministry functioning in order to serve the students and invite them to know the grace of God. The every other Thursday evening Dollar Dinner outreach; a meal served to the college students for one ($1.00) dollar; is a tangible and tasty reminder to the students that LCM-Morris and the Lutheran churches who sponsor a meal, care for them. The off weeks from dinner we offer a laid back worship service or fellowship event that welcomes ALL students! One student and one staff member traveled with another campus organization on a service trip to Cibecue, Arizona in March over Spring Break. They shared God’s Grace through vacation Bible studies, helped repair buildings and build a playground. LCM-Morris was able to offer $5,000 towards this mission trip to help make it possible.
A reminder of the many ways in which you could choose to support LCM-Morris: 1 - A Thrivent Action Team: Coordinate with our Office Manager at 320-589-4554. 2 - Gathering a weekly "NOISY" offering for LCM-Morris during worship services. 3 - Directing your Thrivent Choice Dollars to Lutheran Campus Ministry-Morris. 4 - Lutheran Campus Ministry, Morris (type out our full name) is on the www.GiveMN.org site where you can set up monthly donations or a one-time gift. 5 - Set up a legacy gift - LCM-Morris works with the ELCA Regional Gift Planner, call us for details or call Amy Bigot directly at 763-443-3750. 6 - Checks made out and mailed to: LCM-Morris, 110 Columbia, Morris, MN 56267
LCM-Morris students participate in many activities. Connecting to congregations is an important part of our ministry. Please call if your congregation would like a student visit, a Bible Study led by our campus community coordinator or a conversation regarding an expanded role in supporting the outreach of LCM-Morris.
Students will soon gather again at the LCM-House for the fall semester. Please keep LCM-Morris; the board, the new office manager – Amanda Johnson, the new campus community coordinator – Katie Hassler, and all the students in your prayers!
Blessings to you all!
Amanda Johnson LCM-Morris Office Manager Rev. Chris Richards LCM-Morris Board President

ABOUT GROWING HOPE GLOBALLY Rooted in Community, Grounded in Faith
Mission: As a Christian response to hunger, we link the grassroots energy and commitment of
agricultural communities around the world with the capability and desire of smallholder farmers in
developing countries to grow lasting solutions to hunger.
Vision: We envision a day when all people around the world have enough to eat and the physical,
financial and community resources to live hopeful, healthy, productive lives. Our constructive role in this
transformation is to raise resources to support sustainable smallholder agricultural development and to
increase opportunities for all people to work together consciously toward a more just and equitable
world for all.
History: Founded in 1999 as Foods Resource Bank, Growing Hope Globally started with little more
than hope and a prayer. Ohio Farmers Vernon and Carol Sloan invited their neighbors to become part of
the solution to world hunger by sending corn from their fields to developing countries. They quickly
learned shipping corn was too costly – nearly 15 times the cost of the grain itself – and would wreak
havoc on local farmers and markets. Needing a new idea, they sat down with a handful of Christian
organizations that fund and run international food security programs. Their unique solution: Use the
proceeds from crops raised and sold in the U.S. to fund agricultural development programs overseas.
That seed of an idea has since blossomed to more than 165 Growing Projects in rural communities
across the U.S. Together, we have helped more than 1.6 million hungry people break the cycle of
poverty and hunger by growing their own food.
In 2018, the Pope County Foods Resource Bank sent $15,225 to the Foods Resource Bank
which is now called "Growing Hope Globally."

SW MN Synod Annual Report
Bishop Jon V. Anderson’s Annual Report - 2018
You are all synod ministers. You are the synod as baptized ones living out your vocations in your
everyday lifes, inside the communities of faith of Southwestern Minnesota and beyond. Thanks for all
the ways you have lived out your faith, loved your neighbors, and invited people to join you in following
Christ. The attached infographic lifts up some information about our synod’s life. We are also working
on a new poster map to share with you that includes our vision statement.
Deepen Congregational Vitality
Congregations exist to proclaim the Good News we know in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus
through word and sacrament. Growing gracious, generous Christians who follow Christ provide
energizing focus. We are thankful for churches’ sending capacity to engage God’s world. Our staff
continues to use tools to help congregational leaders grow and engage the work of reforming
congregations to serve our changing mission field.
These involve stewardship education programs, evangelizing training that will begin in the new year, and
ongoing use of planning assessments. What is God up to in your community and your congregation?
God is working in your midst.
I want to share the five steps of our “Leadership for Faithful Innovation” project with Luther Seminary.
A cohort of leaders is learning to slow down to more deeply engage the adaptive challenges of our time.
LISTEN – We are called to be “listening to God, listening to each other, listening to ourselves, and
listening to the world around us.”
RECONNECT – In addition to “Dwelling in the Word,” we are also called to be “Dwelling in the World.”
We are called to reconnect spiritually with God’s faithfulness, God’s story, and God’s
promises to us as God’s people.
56 Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report
DEFINE – the challenges God has called us to face.
REFRAME – “Leaders need to articulate the challenges congregations are facing in ways that invite
others to learn by doing in order to discern God’s movement and God’s call to a new
way forward.” We have to be willing to change as congregations and leaders to speak to
our time.
CULTIVATE – “(I)nvolves whole congregations cultivating life together through spiritual practices and
innovation focused on discerning God’s presence and joining God’s work.”
Enhance Local and Global Mission
Congregations that have a mission beyond themselves are healthier. Congregations that have a focused
sense of mission externally and internally live with greater joy and energy. Inside of even the most
challenging situations are opportunities to serve in Christ’s name.
Develop Servant Leaders
We continue our work of equipping God’s people for service in God’s world, developing people who
serve in congregations and rostered ministry. Our dream to develop our synod’s “culture of call”
continues to develop.
Again, Thanks
We are grateful for each of you as you live out your faith and many callings. We are thankful for your
congregations and the institutions of our synod. We are grateful for your support of God’s whole church
– the ELCA and our Global Companions. Thanks for your faithful witness in God’s world. I also want to
thank our staff (particularly Pr. Linda Pedersen who has concluded her service) and the committees,
boards, and council of our synod.

Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report 57
Technology Update
This past year has been quiet compared to recent ones, but we are gearing up for a major “Tech Project” at the start of the 2019-20 fiscal year.
We currently have a number of online “portals” including a website, an online photo directory, a Facebook presence and a
YouTube channel. We send out Tweets and Instagrams, as well as post on Google and Pinterest. Our website is “mobile ready,” as is our online giving website page (also accessed via a QR code or app on mobile devices), and we send out a weekly e-mail newsletter.
We have not been able to communicate with our members via e-mail or text messages through ICON (our church management software), this past year. ICON is dealing with it via a third-party option, which we would have to pay for. No decision has been made in that regard.
We reported last year that we had to launch a new Facebook page and group last year. Surprisingly, we asked everyone to “get on board” as our old site had over 500 followers. Well we are happy to report that within the past 12 months our new site now has well over 600 followers, and we are so grateful for all the support!
We maintain two groups, GLC Youth and “Friends of Glenwood Lutheran.” We have two pages, the official one for the church, and a GWELCA page. If you’ve not already connected with us online, please like our page (@glenwoodlutherans) and join our group (Glenwood Lutheran Friends).
The Stewardship Board again sponsored graphics/media subscriptions for use by the church office, education, and video/visual technology used for worship and announcements. It was their fourth year doing so, to enhance worship and learning. Jeanette has received a lot of complements on the visuals, and this is due in large part to these subscriptions that they provide.
New This Year This year the sound board was replaced (by a kind donation by the Mortons, Duffy and Judi). Sound for our radio broadcasts, now wireless, was greatly improved as well as overall sound quality in the sanctuary.
58 Glenwood Lutheran Church 2019 Annual Report
Last year we introduced “Giving by Text” and “Giving by App” both part of Vanco’s Give+ online giving solutions for churches. This year we added “Give by Swipe,” so we can take Credit/Debit Cards at any event, or people can come to the office and donate if they so choose any time the office is open.
This year we began using Google Analytics more and have noticed a real increase in people using Google to find our website, our location, and to call the church. The only other major change this year was that we “secured our website,” making it compliant for any individuals or organizations requiring “HTTPS Only Compliance.” At the same time we, through our hosting service moved to make it also EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliant.
LOOKING AHEAD Our large office photocopier lease needed to be renewed, office staff sat through presentations by four vendors, and the decision was made to stay with Marco, out of St. Cloud, and just move to the newest model of the Minolta Konica that we already have. The good news is that within the past five years there has been a number of improvements, some of which we have used on our updated old machine, but some are new ones we are looking forward to using. We are anticipating the learning curve will not be as steep continuing with the same Konica Biz Hub machine model.
The really good news is that Minolta Konica has enacted new programs for non-profits, and we will benefit. Our lease price will be at $350 less a month than we were paying, and the price will not fluctuate for the entire five years (typically the price goes up each year of the five year lease). The lease includes supplies and service. The installation date for the new machine is Friday, May 31st.
About the same time our computer/network consultant, from Glacial Ridge Computing has recommended that we update our computers to the Windows 10 operating (we only have 2 running Windows 10 right now, the remainder running Windows 7), and update our MS Office version from 10 to 19. This recommendation was made due to the fact that within this fiscal year Microsoft will discontinue support for both. We brought a proposal to the Trustees in April to replace two of our computers (to be able to handle the OS and software upgrades), to make all of the updates, and to add disk space to our server. The proposal was approved and we will be making those upgrades in the month of June.
Respectfully submitted, Jeanette Rykhus Communications Coordinator
