They really did enjoy meeting the other new mums and dads on such an emotional morning. The cup of tea and a nice chat really did help.

A Great Start to the Year The students have all started working and are firmly engaged in teaching and learning programs. Thanks to you, our parents and caregivers, for supporting your child’s start to school. Rest assured, it is normal for some children to feel a little “upset” at the beginning of a school year (especially if they learnt to really love their last year’s teacher and the friends in that class). It doesn’t take long for kids to adapt to change and learn to love their new classmates and teacher.

We certainly hope that you will be active in supporting your child and his/her teacher throughout the year. Our goal is for all students to be happy, active learners and caring citizens: we need you to help us realise our goal.

Welcome to our Kindergarten Students

This Monday we welcomed our 42 new kinder children for 2019. All of our new friends arrived with crisp new uniforms, shiny new shoes and big smiling faces.

Although we had some tears, the children reassured their parents that big school is a great place and that mums and dads didn’t need to cry!! Our buddies did a great job making them feel at home.

Tea and Tissues was a Great Success Thank you to the P&C for organising ‘Tea and Tissues’ for our new kindy parents. They really did enjoy meeting the other new mums and dads on such an emotional morning. The cup of tea and a nice chat really did help.

SRC & Green Team A major aspect of our leadership strategy (i.e. a philosophy of serving others) is by giving students a genuine “voice” for school-related matters. Recently Student Representative Council members were elected. SRC, Green Team, Library Monitors and House Captains will receive their badges at tomorrow’s assembly. SRC & Green Team Members ~ 2019

Text Books Note If you have paid your textbook money, your child/ren will be issued their text books next week. Just a reminder, that text book money is due by this Friday. This will enable us to issue all text books to students by the following week.

Swimming Carnival This year’s Swimming Carnival (Years 2-6) is scheduled for Thursday, 21st February. It is bound to be a great day for our children. Just a reminder that the carnival will be held at Galston Aquatic Centre. Swimming notes will go home today and money should be returned next week. Thanks to Mr Gornalle for coordinating what we are sure will be a great day. We hope you can join in the fun.

Working with Children Check Any adult volunteer in the school who has direct contact with children must complete a Declaration for Volunteers form at the office and produce proof of identity that meets the 100-point check. If you have completed this form in previous years this stays on file for your child’s primary school years and you do not have to complete it again. Only new volunteers are required to complete this paperwork.

Asquith Girls High School

The Year 4/5/6 Open Night for parents that are interested in their daughter/s attending Asquith Girls High School is Tuesday 26 February 2019 starting at 5:15pm with a sausage sizzle, followed by an information session and a tour of the school at 5:45pm. Enrichment test day will be held on Thursday 7th March.

Have a great year! Become involved in your child’s education. Enjoy learning! Lyn Pearce Principal

P & C News

Stay in touch with what is happening with your school… Each week the P & C will report important information via the school newsletter.

The P&C control and operate the Canteen, Uniform shop, all fundraising and OOSH. Volunteers work hard

behind the scenes to keep everything running like clockwork – all we ask is for some help from the families by

volunteering when they can and reading the newsletter to stay informed of changes and upcoming events.

We also have a Facebook Page – Glenoire Public School P & C Events – that you can like and see important

notices on there too.

Welcome to the 2019 Kindy Parents Thank you to the new Kindy parents that attended our morning tea on Monday morning. It was nice to see some

new faces amongst the crowd, everyone enjoy morning tea and share their experience. Welcome to the GPS

community.

Can you help in our P & C? A BIG thank you to the 40 families that have returned their “Just One Thing” Campaign – note – ALL notes are

due on the 8th February 2019.

Remember if we all do “Just One Thing” it will lighten the load for some that do too much at our school already!

If you have volunteered please allow us some time to collate the replies. Term 1 Canteen roster has been done

however there are some dates and time slots that need filling, please contact Kate if you can fill a spot. For all

fundraising events you will be contacted closer to the date of the particular event to request your help.

P & C meeting Our first P & C meeting for 2019 will be held on 26th February, 7pm in the staffroom. Everyone is welcome to

attend.

Our AGM will be held in March on the 26th. At this meeting we will be electing the P&C Executive Committee

– consisting of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, OOSH Coordinator, Canteen Coordinator,

Uniform Coordinator and Fundrasing Coordinator. If these positions interest you, please review the roles posted

on our Facebook page late last year for more details.

Canteen – some important changes – please read Recess and Lunch orders can only be ordered via Flexischools, by cut off time of 9:00am on Mondays and Fridays

– NOTE Change to MONDAY now 9am

The Canteen Roster has been sent to all volunteers – if you are able to help please contact Kate Devaney on 0411

263 419. There are some time slots that need parents to step up and help, so please consider helping in the canteen.

Our upcoming helpers are: (if you cannot make your shift please find another volunteer to swap with before

Dear parents and caregivers,

This year our students will again be using textbooks and school magazines to support their learning

and for homework.

Class teachers worked together to identify the most appropriate texts for each class (stage) each year.

The following is a list of the texts that your child will use in 2019. Texts will be used from early Term

One. It would be greatly appreciated if you purchase your child’s textbook package by Week 2 Term

1.

The P&C and school have worked together to identify a fair and reasonable voluntary contribution fee

to request from families on an annual basis. Each year the Department of Education provides schools

with a budget for general operations. P&C cover the cost of Mathletics and Reading Eggs for your

child. Additional fundraising and the collection of School Contributions allow schools to purchase

items to further support the educational needs of students.

A technology fee is included to support and supply your child with their own Notebook or iPad at

school and connect you with your child via SeeSaw.

Our school’s global budget is used to purchase and maintain most items that you see within our school

(excluding permanent staff members’ salaries). We are responsible for purchasing books, pencils,

games, computer software, toilet paper, … virtually everything. The additional funds collected will

allow us to purchase more equipment, books, maths games, computers, … for YOUR child.

Many local schools charge high amounts for school contributions. Our goal is to keep the amount

affordable to ensure all families can contribute.

Please complete the slip below and return it to your child’s classroom teacher with correct money or

cheque (made out to Glenorie Public School) or pay online by Friday 8th February 2019. Part

payment will not be accepted.

Thank you for supporting your child’s classroom teacher by ensuring that you pay for above items as

soon as possible.

Students will be issued with their textbooks as their payment is processed. So it is important to make

this payment on or before the due day.

Any families experiencing financial difficulties and are unable to purchase our textbook package

should contact Mrs Pearce.

Enjoy Learning!
