2011 RENOVATIONS

FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER’S DESK

Adult Lounge Family Dining

Demolition of Member Dining

Long term success is a result of a series of short term successes and we were fortunate in 2010 to celebrate a few wins and f irmly establish Glen Oaks

Country Club road to recovery. This was due to a strong team effort by members and staff that created a spirit of cooperation and the establishment of

a committed, stable ownership group that will allow the club to grow and continually improve. Due to these factors the momentum has continued into

2011 with the addition of 12 new members, bringing our total membership to 534 versus 417 one year ago. Golf membership is now at 374 versus 259

prior year. Growing our membership continues to be the #1 initiative of the club.

Our #2 initiative is commitment to service and a friendly, casual atmosphere. The staff is committed to continuous improvement of your club

experience and exceeding your expectations. It is all about service and I am very proud of their efforts. It is not hard to stop one person who is

committed to better serve you but it is really hard to stop fifty!

Our #3 initiative is to provide quality facilities. Poorly maintained facilities start the long, slippery road to a clubs demise. Our farsighted

ownership group is investing the necessary capital to move ahead and dramatically improve our dining and lounge facilities. Our golf course

improvements continue as well with the dredging of the pond on #17. This work will be completed by the end of February. Our new tees on #2 and

the North end of the practice facility will be completed in the spring.

Our #4 initiative is our commitment to the Glen Oaks golf experience. In January, Ken, myself and the golf staff attended the PGA Show in

Orlando, Florida. Needless to say, they have much new merchandise, fun events, and programs in store for the upcoming golf season. They have also

re-established the Glen Oaks Ladies Golf Association beginning in 2011. Please call the shop for more information. Lastly, a new fleet of golf carts, as

well as new range balls, bag stands and accessories will be arriving for the upcoming golf season.

Our #5 initiative is the focus on families. We have had tremendous response to our new activities for kids; Jump Bunch, as well as our

childcare services and movie & craft nights on the weekend. A new exciting Camp Oaks program is in store for this summer. We have also ordered new

furniture and umbrellas for the pool. We are committed to continually providing fun family activities to Glen Oaks members.

I would like to take this opportunity to say how much myself, D.A., Dan, and Golf Resources Group has enjoyed being apart of the Glen Oaks team over

the past year. It is hard to believe it has been one year. We are honored and committed to lead Glen Oaks with integrity and have no performance

short of the best it can be. It takes great people to build a great business and between the staff, members and ownership of Glen Oaks, I am confident

the club‘s series of successes will continue in 2011 and beyond. I look forward to seeing you at the club in the very near future.

John and I met in college,

later married, and lived in

Iowa City and Rochester,

MN before moving back to

the Des Moines area. Both

of us had been raised

here, and this is where

both of our families still

reside. We now live in a

house we recently built in Urbandale. We have three children - Jordyn (9),

Kaiya (6), and Drew (3). We love this area and feel like we made a great

decision to move back "home" to raise our family. John is a physician at

Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Broadlawns Medical Center. He practices

radiology and loves what he does. I currently stay at home with our

children. I must say, I love my job as well!

We have always enjoyed Glen Oaks when we have come for Christmas

parties, business functions, or as dinner guests. Now, we enjoy

being members so that we can take advantage of all the activities! We

are very excited for the events for children and even more excited for the

golf! I plan to participate in the women's league this year and John is

very anxious for golf season as well. I'm sure we will also make good

use of the pool and the restaurants! We are looking forward to getting to

know other members and are so happy we made the decision to join!

THINK GLEN OAKS FIRST

Page 3

We are anticipating a very busy season at the

Club, not only in our new member areas, but

also with our events!

As you all know, with our current Membership

drive and the remodel soon unveiling, we

have an incredible opportunity to spread the

Glen Oaks name within the West Des Moines

community. You have all contributed

immensely to the reputation that we have

built for ourselves and hope that you will

continue to book your upcoming personal and

business events at the Club.

Our Clubhouse Staff and Culinary Teams are committed to providing you and

your guests with impeccable service and unparalleled menus that will be

remembered for years to come.

As a team, we ensure that the little details are executed fully and of course

we always throw in our personal Glen Oaks touch.

So, when planning your upcoming events, remember that your Club offers a

variety of space including private meeting rooms, exquisite outdoor

verandas and intimate dining rooms overlooking the State‘s most

prestigious golf course. It is truly our pleasure to make sure that your

events are without a doubt, everything that you imagined and more! We

look forward to see you at the club!

MEET THE CLUBHOUSE STAFF Alison Burns

My name is Alison Burns and I recently began as Glen

Oaks‘ Assistant Events & Marketing. Below is a little bit

about myself.

I was born in Ormond Beach, Florida, and moved to

Johnston, Iowa, when I was five. I attended Johnston

Schools from kindergarten thru graduation in 2007, and

recently received my Bachelor‘s of Science in Hospitality

Management from Iowa State University. I had several

internships that during college at Iowa State Foundation, Eau Claire Golf and

Country Club, and Tournament Club of Iowa—they all provided great experience

for my position here at Glen Oaks Country Club.

Not only am I finding it very busy here at the club, I‘m

also planning my wedding in May in the Grand Cayman

Islands! My fiancé, John Schutt, also graduated from

Iowa State in Operation Supply Chain Management and

Business Management and works for Pioneer Hi-Bred.

We live in a house in Des Moines with our amazing

German Shepherd, Zuma.

I‘ve felt very welcomed from my day one here at Glen Oaks—for the first time, I

have my own desk and business cards! A few of my position responsibilities

include keeping you up-to-date on upcoming events, preparing the monthly

newsletter and sending email blasts (I‘m also the person bugging everyone for

member headshots!). I‘m looking forward to the busy summer ahead and am

anxious to meet all of you!

Asiago Dauphinois Potatoes

5 pounds russet potatoes, peeled

2 ounces butter

1 tablespoon garlic, minced

2 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream

1 pound asiago cheese

1 pinch salt & black pepper

1/2 cup parsley, chopped

Instructions

1) Slice your potatoes on a mandolin or electric slicer about 1/4" thick

You must work quickly so the potatoes do not oxidize after being sliced

preheat oven to 350 degrees

2) Prepare a 2" or taller baking dish by "greasing" the bottom & sides with the

cold butter & a paper towel. Now using the same paper towel that you used for

rubbing the butter on the pan, carefully spread the garlic out on the pan evenly

3) You will build 4-6 layers of potatoes, depending on the pan. The layers need

to alternate from being slightly shingled side to side on the 1st layer, then up &

down (opposite direction) on the next layer & so on

After the 1st layer is down, evenly pour the cream in a zigzag motion over

potatoes (the secret is opening the cream, closing it back up, then squeezing the

center slightly - that allows just enough to come out so you can disperse nicely)

Then sprinkle with cheese, then with salt & pepper, then with parsley

Repeat this with each layer of potatoes, using your open hands to slightly press

down each layer to the prior for strong structure & a clean slice of end product

Place wax paper over the top & foil wrap the pan, poke a few air holes in the foil

& bake for 40 minutes to an hour or until "knife tender" or al dente. Take the

cover off & put back in oven just to brown the top. Allow to set for 15 minutes

before cutting. Can be served right away or reheated for later.

Baking time may be longer depending on thickness of your potato slices.

Serves: 12 Preparation Time is 45 minutes Cooking Time is 1 hour

KITCHEN CREATION

Culinary features

March 2011

This is a very addictive side dish we like to pair with beef & chicken here at the

Club. The beauty is the ingredient list is small & timing is not crucial as the

potatoes bake or after they are done baking. These actually get better is you

allow the pan of potatoes to "rest" as we chefs like to say. 30 minutes of room

temperature time after baking allows the starches to sort of "calm down" &

structurally set up nicely which allows for easy portioning if you wish to cut into

squares.

As always, if you run into any questions in preparing our kitchen creation, please

call or email me & I would be glad to help!

CHEF’S GONE MAD!

FROM THE CELLAR

Chef’s Featured Wine, March 2011 Sequoia Grove

Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Rutherford, California 2006

Normally $73, I want you all to enjoy this incredible cab, it will be marked down to $58

For the Month of March Only

As much as many of us would like to believe it will be warm & we could be teeing it up, we typically get to see a few

final inches of snow as March winds down. So I want to feature my favorite bottle in the cellar, which is a fairly stout red, while being warmed up with a nice big cab

is still appealing.

The 2006 Sequoia Grove Cabernet is a fantastic blend of grapes from Rutherford, Oakville & Napa which culminates in the unique winemaking style of the small, family owned winery located beneath giant Sequoia Trees in Rutherford.

This is a beautifully balanced red wine & pairs well with just about any dry aged, hand cut steak & black angus burger!

Enjoy!

TEE TIME The golf staff had an opportunity to attend the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida in late January. The attendance at the show was up significantly over prior

years, which is a great sign for the game! We are extremely excited about the new lines we have coming for spring and fall. Some of these new lines that you haven‘t

seen in our shop are Carnoustie, Donald Ross, Straight Down, Sligo, Puma, Sport Haley and more! You will see more depth and selection in the golf shop than you have

in many years.

I also attended the PGA National Teaching summit in Orlando prior to the

show, a two-day workshop led by some of the best teachers in the

country. After what I learned at the workshop, I am considering offering

a refund to all of you who have taken lessons from me in the past (just

kidding!). In all seriousness, I cannot wait to pass on what I learned

to the membership. We will be offering comprehensive golf education

programs to all levels of golfers this season.

On behalf of the entire golf staff, we look forward to the 2011 golf

season! You can access the season‘s golf schedule with specific

information on formats and itineraries through the club website.

Simply click on ―tee times‖, which will enable you to gain access to

our Foretees online tee time system. From there, click on the events

tab and the entire season‘s roster of events will be displayed for

your review. Please save the date of the list of golf events coming

up in April and May.

contributions to local charities,‖ said Mike Stevens, president of the Champions

World Golf Hall of Fame member, Nick Price earned his second victory of the

Principal Charity Classic deserves this award. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the
