ANZAC DAY

Glen Innes Public School Remembers

During April our GIPS students participated in a range of activities helping students understand and appreciate ANZAC Day.

Students were encouraged to write speeches at home to read at school, Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students participated in rotational activities that included creating care packages and a memorial that was displayed out the front of the school. An ANZAC Day assembly was held in the New Hall with special guests invited to attend and our students participated in the ANZAC Day parade on the 25th April along Grey Street.

We would like congratulate all our students for the respect and honour they have shown during these activities.

Staff Development Day

This year all members of staff of Glen Innes Public School were fortunate enough to be invited to participate in a cultural awareness day at “The Willows”. The main aim of the day was to learn about our local Ngoorabul people and country, and how this can be incorporated into the classrooms. An extremely successful day was enjoyed by everyone and special thanks go to our Aboriginal Education Officer - Karen Potter, Scott Taylor and Chris Mitchell for the indigenous cuisine as well as Carol Green and her team, Lands Council CEO - Jayden Potter and his team for providing us with expert knowledge of the Aboriginal people and their culture.

Athletics Trials

In preparation for the upcoming athletics carnival, students will be involved in trials at school during weeks 2 and 3. Stage 2 trials, including Year 2 eight year olds will be held on Monday, 6th May (originally 8th May on the trial permission note). Stage 3 trials will be spread over two days, Thursday 9th and Friday 10th May. 100m and 200m trials, where needed, will be held on Wednesday, 15th May 1500m will be held on Monday, 20th May. Due to the trials not being on sports days, participating students are asked to wear their sports uniform on these days.

Tickets are on sale only at the Visitor Information Centre at a cost of $5.00 per ticket.

Please ensure you get your tickets from the Visitor Information Centre. Tickets are required upon entry and no tickets will be available for purchase at the door for any of the performances.

Easter Hat Parade 11th April, 2019

Thursday 11th of April G.I.P.S was a sea of coloured hats and chocolate eggs as we held our annual Easter Hat Parade.

Family and friends were invited to join our students for morning tea before the big event. The students proudly showed off their colourful creations as they waved and danced across the stage in front of family and friends.

The parade was followed with a visit form a special bunny who presented the colouring competition winners.
