Building Code Note regarding Glass Railing:IBC 2407.1.2 states: Each handrail or guard section shall be supported by a minimum of three glass balusters or shall be supported to remain in place should one baluster panel fail. Glass balusters shall not be installed without an attached handrail or guard. It is critical to also note the preceding note in the IBC:IBC 2407.1.1 Loads. The panels and their support system shall be designed to withstand the loads specified in section 1607.7. A safety factor of 4 shall be used.Per IBC 1607.7, the requirements are for a 50 pound per foot uniform loard or 200 pound concentrated load applied at any point along the top of the railing. Glass balusters will not be able to meet the 800 (4 times 200) pound concentrated load without a Cap Rail. Also, the Cap Rail used to set on top of the glass guard must be able to withstand the load requirements on its own. In an end condition, if the Cap Rail is not affixed to the structure, the load requirement may limit the width of the end panel since the cantilever stress on the Cap Rail needs to be taken into account. The 2009 IBC has been changed to allow for the insallation of Glass Railing without a Cap Rail if laminated, tempered or heat strengthened glass is used. Confirm requirements with your local authorities.

A – ATTACHMENT TO CONCRETEThe Shoe Mouldings may be attached directly to concrete – 4,000 psi minimum – using a 3⁄8" × 4" Wedge-Bolt, Orange Tip, Anchor. • Use the pre-drilled holes in the shoe moulding as a template to
drill holes in the concrete. The Wedge-Bolt, Orange Tip, Anchor allows the use of a standard 3⁄8" × 12" masonry bit.
• Holes must be drilled a minimum of 1⁄2" deeper than the required embedment.
• Vacuum all loose debris and thread in the Wedge-Bolt Anchor.
• Insert the Wedge-Bolt through the base Shoe Moulding and into the drilled hole. Use downward pressure and begin to turn the Wedge-Bolt clockwise thereby engaging the first few threads.
• Continue tightening until firmly seated against the Shoe Moulding. An impact wrench is recommended to facilitate tightening to a torque of 40 ft/lbs.
B – EMBEDDED IN CONCRETEWhen design parameters require a hidden floor attachment, a poured in place Shoe Moulding may be appropriate. With this attachment method, the glass will appear to rise directly out of the floor.
C – WELD BLOCK WITH STEEL SUBSTRATEIf a structurally sound steel substrate is present and you wish to avoid drilling and matching Shoe Moulding holes with substrate holes, steel Weld Blocks may be used. • Weld Blocks are mechanically attached to the base of the Shoe
Moulding with 1⁄2"-13 × 11⁄4" Cap Screws. • The assembly is then placed and aligned in the field and welded
to the steel substrate. • Custom sized Cladding is available to cover your Weld Block
attachment.
D – ATTACHMENT TO EMBEDDED STEEL • A 1⁄2" × 4" steel strip is drilled and tapped for 1⁄2"-13, 12" on center;
and 3⁄8" × 3" T bolt anchors are welded to the underside of the steel strip,18" on center.
• Prior to placing in wet concrete, insert Nylon Allen Screws to protect threaded holes and cover the Cap Screw socket heads with duct tape to keep out the concrete.
• When cured, remove the Nylon Allen Screws and secure the Shoe Moulding with 1⁄2"-13 × 11⁄4" Cap Screws.
E – FASCIA MOUNT • The Shoe Moulding may be side mounted to a steel angle or
substrate as shown. • Wagner can pre-drill Shoe Moulding for fascia mounting as
required.
ATTACHMENT LOCATIONS: • Lengths less than 1'-6", two attachment minimum. • Lengths between 1'-6" and 2'-6", three attachment minimum. • Lengths over 2'-6", space attachments 12" on center. • The first hole should be located 3" from the end of the shoe
moulding on lengths less than 2'-6" and 6" from the end on lengths over 2'-6".
• Drill additional holes in shoe moulding as required. • For exterior applications, the heads of the attachments should be
covered with silicone.
SHOE MOULDING ATTACHMENTAttachment of the aluminum shoe moulding is critical to the success of any glass railing installation. The details above depict six typical attachment methods. Other methods of attachment are possible but their integrity would need to be determined by the installer in cooperation with their own engineer. Note: To avoid corrosion, aluminum should be kept from directly contacting steel Portland based cement and grout by painting with a heavy coat of an appropriate primer. For exterior applications, provide weep holes as needed.

PanelGrip™ Dry Glaze System – Patent Pending www.panelgrip.com
• Reduce Labor Costs Up To 80% No sealing of shoe, no setting blocks, no plumbing of glass, no
multiple pours of cement, no waiting for cement to cure; no messy clean-up.
• Reduce Freight Costs Up To 30% PanelGrip™ shoe is almost 30% lighter than standard shoe yet
meets structural load requirements for railings.• Broadest Grip Range Of Any Dry Glaze Option Made for nominal 1⁄2" tempered glass but will work for any panel
between .450" and .515" (11.50mm and 13mm).• No Special Tools Required All you need is an Allen wrench for installation or removal.• No Mess No mixing and pouring of expansion cement. No running of cement on incline.
PANELGRIPTM
The Wagner PanelGrip™ System utilizes a unique locking mechanism of high-strength aluminum and PVC isolators combined with a specially designed aluminum shoe moulding. When assembled with 1⁄2" or 3⁄4" tempered glass, PanelGripTM enables the installer to fabricate a structural Glass Railing System with significant reductions in labor and freight costs.

PANELGRIP™ INSTALLATION:1. PLUMBING PANELGRIP™ SHOE MOULDING Before completing attachment of PanelGrip™ Shoe Moulding
to substrate – in multi-panel railings – take all necessary steps to assure that the mounted shoe is adjusted such that the inside channel of the shoe it is plumb to +/- 1⁄8" at an extended height of 42". Spend the time required to plumb the shoe to this tolerance since the glass will only be as plumb as the shoe.
One method for plumbing the shoe is the Plumbing Bar Kit.

www.panelgrip.com PanelGripTM Dry Glaze System – Patent Pending3. PLACE ISOLATORS Place the PanelGripTM Plastic Isolators into the Shoe Moulding.
Space Plastic Isolators a maximum of 14" on center with a maximum of 4" in from the left and right edges of each panel – 4 isolators per 4 foot panel.
4. PLACE GLASS Place the glass atop the Plastic Isolators in the Shoe Moulding.
PanelGripTM will work with nominal 1⁄2" and 3⁄4" glass. Warning: With multi-panel railings, do not line up the edge of
a panel with the end of the shoe – place the panels so that they span PanelGripTM Shoe Moulding butt joints to assist in alignment.
5. INSERT PANELGRIP Have someone hold the panel in place while you insert the
aluminum PanelGripTM mechanism into place on the opposite side of the glass in alignment with the Plastic Isolators. Make sure that the black, plastic pad on the PanelGripTM is facing the glass.
6. TIGHTEN PANELGRIP Using the 3⁄16" hex head wrench provided, tighten the cap screw
on the PanelGripTM mechanism. While tightening, the plastic pad will break away from the aluminum as the unit expands.
7. CONFIRM ALIGNMENT AND TIGHTEN Confirm alignment and make adjustments prior to final tightening
which will compress and lock the panel into place. Remember, PanelGripTM is self-centering and self-
plumbing. Make sure you have properly plumbed the shoe as noted in Step 1.
Once you have confirmed position, use the 3⁄16" hex head wrench to make the PanelGripTM Cap Screw snug-tight, then continue tightening for one quarter turn – 10-15 ft/lbs of torque. Repeat on all other PanelGripTM units to secure the panel in position.
8. INSERT SPACING PADS Repeat with other lites of glass. Insert 1⁄4" Spacing and
Sealing Pads between glass panels to prevent glass-to-glass contact. Use with Rigid Spacer Blocks for slant pours. Trim as required.
9. SEAL TOP OF SHOE Once glass is properly positioned, seal gap at the top of the
PanelGripTM Shoe Moulding using one of the three Gasket styles noted below. Spray glass cleaner onto glass to facilitate insertion of gaskets.
• GR9354 is used without cladding • GR9398 is inserted between cladding and glass • GR9300 is taped to the underside of the top lip of the cladding.

10. REMOVAL OF GLASS Should you need to remove a panel, this can be done simply by
loosening the PanelGripTM Cap Screw. Note: The Cap Screw included in the PanelGripTM contains a
pressure-sensitive locking compound that insures the screw remains tight over time and through cyclic loading. Each insertion and removal cycle diminishes its locking capacity. Individual results will vary but four cycles is the typical life span of the compound.

The patented GlassWedge™ consists of a high impact Plastic Wedge Isolator and a high strength Aluminum Wedge. The GlassWedge™ provides the installer with a simpler, cleaner method of setting tempered glass panels in Wagner’s structural shoe moulding. Complete installation instructions and video may be viewed at www.glassrailing.com.• GlassWedge™ is available for nominal 1⁄2" (12mm) and 3⁄4" (19mm)
tempered glass. The system allows for the following variations in glass thickness:
• For 1⁄2" (12mm) glass from .470" (11.938mm) to .490" (12.446mm)
• For 3⁄4" (19mm) glass from .746" (18.948mm) to .766" (19.456mm)
• Due to tolerance variances in the production of GlassWedge™ components and tempered glass itself, the GlassWedge™ System may not be suitable for all applications.
• GlassWedge™ is not to be used with laminated glass.Note: Dimensional tolerances in the shoe are critical. To purchase the GlassWedge™ for use with similar shoe mouldings by others, a waiver will need to be be provided confirming dimensions fall within tolerance requirements.

GLASS MOUNT BRACKETSIn a stairway, guard application – 42" high – codes will generally require that a handrail be provided at a height of between 34" and 38". With glass railing systems, these glass mounting brackets permit attachment of brackets directly to tempered glass structural balustrades.NOTE:These brackets require that a hole be drilled in the glass which must be done prior to tempering. Attempts to drill holes or grind the glass after tempering will most likely cause breakage.*For 1⁄2" glass. For 3⁄4" glass, order longer bolts shown on page 45.
