Post meeting note by Secretary: Shortly after the meeting the Chair agreed an

additional amendment to the GCU Qualifications Framework to remove the secondsentence in 3.4 namely "Students on SHEH programmes may take SHEM modulesprovided they achieve the minimum number of SHEH credits required". (This

situation is already covered by the note under Table 1)

4. Undergraduate Credit Accumulation and Modular Scheme

4.1 All undergraduate programmes in the University with the exception ofthose by Learning Contract are based on the University CreditAccumulation and Modular Scheme as outlined above

4.2 Entry to programmes of study in the scheme will be based on theUniversity's Admission Policy and General Entrance Requirement.(Appendix 4)

4.3 Students may study full-time or part-time, on campus, at the work place,by distance learning or by a combination of delivery modes as specified inindividual programme documentation

Normally a student will study for a minimum of 3 years and a maximumof 4 years full-time for a Scottish Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 4years and a maximum of 5 years for a Scottish Bachelors Degree withHonours. A part-time student will normally study for a minimum of 4years and a maximum of 5 years for Cl Scottish Bachelors Degree and aminimum of 5 years and a maximum of 7 years for a Scottish BachelorsDegree with Honours. However, except when precluded by a professionalbody, a student may apply for an extended period of registration and thiswill not normally be refused. The University, however, does not guaranteethat a particular programme will remain in approval indefinitely.

1. Qualifications equivalent to those given above will be also be considered. Guidanceon equivalence will be taken from the National Academic Recognition InformationCentre (NARIC).

Minimum age on entry

2. Applicants must normally be at least seventeen years of age by the 31st August priorto the start of the programme of study.

English Language Proficiency

3. An applicant whose first language is not English or who has not been educatedwholly or mainly in the medium of English will be expected, before commencing aprogramme of study, to demonstrate a suitable minimum level of competency in theEnglish language. It is essential that the student is able to understand and tocommunicate in both written and spoken English at a sufficient standard to follow thechosen programme. This applies for entry onto all GCU programmes, includingundergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, operating in the UK.

4. The University regards the following qualifications/tests as indicating a suitableminimum level of competence:

17. Programmes may require a higher language requirement. The requirement and itsrationale must be considered and approved by the Exceptions Committee.

18. Programmes may offer entry with a lower entrance requirement only on conditionthat such students undertake a recognised supplementary "top-up" languageprogramme with testing designed to bring the students to a language standardequivalent to IELTS 6.0 prior to their first semester of study.

19. Advice is available from the International Student Advisor for any potential studentwhose standard of English does not yet meet the entry standard required.

Deferral

20. Applicants who have been offered a place on a programme may defer the offer forone calendar year from the start date of the programme without re-applying

Student Disclosure Policy

21. This policy (attached):

• Considers and addresses the risk to the University community or to those withwhom its students come in contact as part of their programme of study in respectof those who have a criminal record;

• Indicates the categories of students for whom an Enhanced Disclosure check isrequired before they can undertake placement work with children or vulnerableadults;

• Explains how the University informs itself of the criminal record of applicantsand how it handles disclosure information.

• Recognises that the University is committed to the resettlement of offenders andconfirms that having a criminal record will not necessarily debar anyone frombecoming a student of the University.
