WHY GIRLS? Adolescent girls are uniquely capableof raising the standard of living in thedeveloping world.Its been shown: she will reinvest her incomeand knowledge back into her family andher community. As an educated mother, anactive citizen, an ambi-tious entrepreneur orprepared employee, a girl will break the

cycle of intergenera-tional poverty.That is the girl effect.Yet, despite her proven potential, she is morelikely to be uneducated, a child bride, andexposed to HIV/AIDS. Less than two centsof every international development dollar isdirected to her.Progress has been made and solutionsidentified, yet more

must be done.The 600 million adoles-cent girls in developingcountries are ready to change the world.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:1. START A CLUBRally your co-workers, classmates or friends and create a girl effect club.Start simple and determine what your club wants to do - raise awarenessabout the girl effect, hold speaking events, show films that help othersunderstand todays realities, or raise funds. Of course, your club can doall of these things!2. PUT ON AN EVENT:What if your next party supported the girl effect? Maybe youre looking for that group to belong to but just havent found the right niche. Heres your chance to do something that fits your interests andhelps girls.

3. SPREAD THE WORD: Theres no better way to fuel the girl effect than showing others what its all about. Use the materials from girleffect.org to tell people about girls in the developing world. The more peoplewho know, the better.
