The increasing emergence of drug-resistant bacterial strains calls for the development of new antibiotics. Bacterial energy metabolism offers opportunities
for drug development, as shown by the ATPase inhibitor bedaquiline, the first approved antitubercular drug in over 40 years. The seminar will focus on
cytochrome bd, a multifunctional respiratory oxidase which confers bacterial resistance to stress conditions and promotes virulence, being thus recognized as a
potential drug target.
