• Came from a family of Venetian painters

Styles of Art

• Began using Quattrocento styles but matured into the progressive post-Giorgione Renaissance styles

• Worked with tempera in his early paintings

• Painted colorful, atmospheric landscapes

Transfiguration of Christ

c. 1487 oil on panel. One of 2 paintings of the transfiguration of Christ he did, this one is less gothic in nature and has a loose, warm feeling.

Major Achievements

• Most important contribution to art was his experimentation with the use of color and atmosphere in oil paintings

• His school greatly outshined those of his rivals

• Had a major influence on his pupils, such as Titian and Giorgione

• Is considered to have revolutionized Venetian painting

The Feast Of The Gods

• Bellini’s last painting, c. 1514, Bellini died before it was finished but completed by his pupil, Titian. It was one of only a few of his paintings on canvas.
