Anonymous Hacktivist Organization

When asked “What does Anonymous mean to you?” J.S of Anonymous New Jer-sey replied with “It means having the power to change things even though your just some person on the computer. It empowers people who normally would not have power.”

The infamous “Commander X”

The Anonymous Hacktivist Organization is a world wide collective of people with the same ideals and beliefs, whether you are a tech savy hacker or a protester/activist anyone that wishes to be “Anonymous” and believes in its ideas of freedom of information, speech, and religionis therefore Anonymous. As J.Salmon of Anonymous New Jersey said “The negatives are that anyone can join, the positives are that anyone can join.”. With anyone able to make claims under the title of Anonymous contreversy is not uncommon within its borders.

CopBlock

The infamous “Commander X”

With their famous motto “Badges Don’t Grant Extra Rights” the COPBLOCK movement has targeted police officers with multiple means of disrupting their activity and recording officers claiming “Cameras bring accountablility”.. One of their many tactics is using long rage lazer projectors or high profile/easely seen signs/objects to warn on-comming traffic of police activity or police checkpoints. With their well known videos on youtube enticing and defending themselves against police officers, they do a good job on educating the general public on proper pro-tocol when facing law enforcement and what rights you have over them and what rights do they have over you.

C A M O V E RCAMOVER is a movement consisting of activist whose goal is to vandalize or remove surveillence and security cam-eras. Started in Berlin, Germany the movement has rapidly gained followers in a short period of time. Activists of CAMOVER treat the movement as a game, say-ing “Take down as much surveil-lance as possible, gaining points for the number of cam-eras you destroy.”

As security and surveillance cameras being seen widely as an invasion of privacy and a risk to personal secu-rity, these cameras are not recieving the welcome most governments and buisnesses expected. Movements like CAMOVER are one of few fighting this threat head on.One of their videos on YouTube has gone viral in the activism world, of several protesters vandalizing surveil-lance cameras and entering a train and removing the cameras infront of regular citizens.
