Mainstream reports will be sent

home this Friday. From 2013,

schools are in a transition phase

from the State SACSAF to the

Australian Curriculum. This

year we are assessing and

reporting against The Australian

Curriculum in the areas of

Mathematics, English, Science

and History as well as the

use the International

which is aligned to the Australi-

assigned grade for Art at this

time as Christine Lawrence has

had to take emergency leave.

over the next few weeks and

A thank you from Christine

Many of you may be aware that

our Art Teacher, Christine

Lawrence, has had to take

emergency leave as a result of the

unexpected illness of her husband

Stephan. Judi Fox has been filling

in for her and organized a

wonderful gesture where the

Christine and Stephan.

They were both very touched by

this and it raised their spirits.

Christine has asked me to pass on

a huge thanks to all of the

students for their kind wishes. At

this stage we expect Christine to

return next term although she will

Premier’s Be Active Challenge

Gilles Street Primary School

The Premier’s be active Challenge is a state-wide program which encourages school aged children to

be physically active on a regular basis.

Physical activity is for everyone and recent studies have shown that those children who are more physically active on a daily

basis are achieving improved results in schools.

With Numeracy and Literacy being the central focus in the majority of schools, we feel that this program has a role to play in

the overall wellbeing of the child and improvement academically.

By now parents should have received the Parent Information Sheets regarding the Challenge. This year the Challenge is being

promoted to families through schools. We have had an overwhelming response from families who have used the information

sheet to gain further knowledge about the program and register their children if the school hasn’t already done so.

In the majority of cases, your children would be achieving 60 minutes a day of physical activity, getting them to capture what

they are doing in a diary or online can get them not only in the habit of valuing physical activity in their daily routine but also

receiving a medallion as recognition for their hard work.

curriculum areas and are central to the curriculum. The year 6/7 mainstream team attended Norwood Morialta High School and

worked with our International Baccalaureate cluster on the new chapter documents in the IB. Both days were very useful and gave us

an opportunity to extend our learning through sharing with other educators.

Site learning plans.

Every year we review our focus areas and develop specific goals for review and development. These are contained in the Site

Improvement plans and usually spread over the next 3 years. The complete report was presented to School Council last month and a

report of the achievement is presented via the school’s annual report in March. Below is a summary of the areas in the report, if you

would like a full copy please request via Rod the front office.

Room 12 has been reading the book Boy Overboard by Morris

Gleitzman. As a part of their engagement with the story they

have designed their own dust jackets to represent the story

within.

Room 12 have been using the XBOX Kinect in Maths this term. The game Kinect

Adventures is providing the perfect vehicle for learning about mean, median and

mode. In their ‘Kinect Adventures Marvellous Maths Challenge’ students begin by collect-

ing data on their individual performances in each of the adventures. In Round 2, stu-

dents get together in teams to collate all of their results together, graph them and

find the mean, median and mode and explaining their results. The games finish with the

Championship Round, where the data is used to select the championship competitor

from each team, with the final results also collected and means, medians and modes

are recorded and explained. A very fun and engaging way to learn Maths!

the library. Please take the opportunity to

view the garden and if you have your QR

code reader handy you can share in some of
